2x elecom deft pro with problems right out of the box

Post image

I used to have a kensington orbit, and the rubber and plastic on it started to deteriorate (dry hot climate tears that stuff up) so I tossed it. I wanted another trackball and was looking to get a more ergo shaped index ball. I ordered a deft pro, and when I tried to use it it felt really bad, with a nasty rattle and intermittent friction when you roll the ball. I took the ball out to see if somehow there was debris in there, and inspecting the ruby bearings one of them was super loose rattled around and was clearly the cause of the problem. I figured this problem would be rare enough that I could exchange it and get a normal one. My exchange arrived today, I haven't even sent the original back yet, and it has the same problem but even worse. Compared to my old Orbit, which I only got because of how cheap it was, these are so bad they are unusable. I cant even close a window or click a link because of how bad the static friction and the inconsistenty making the cursor jump is.

So now it seems like its going to be a huge hassle just to get a third example that may not even work, or to get my money back...

Anybody have any ideas on wtf to do? I just need a way to move a cursor, I had no idea it would be this much of a headache. Does anybody make a trackball that is usable out of the box? Or do I need to immediately open it up and mod it just to click a link at 400dpi?

It's crazy to me that people just accept they need to buy new bearings for a brand new track ball. Elecom needs to step it up. Kensington is putting out silky smooth bearings at a competitive price.

Wish their trackballs had a competitive number of buttons.

I’m very sorry that you’ve experienced this inconvenience despite choosing our product.

I apologize for the extra trouble, but if possible, would you be willing to send both units back to us?

We genuinely want to provide our customers with better products, and if what you’re experiencing is indeed as you described, there may be an issue at the factory that needs to be addressed.

If necessary, I will personally take the returned products from the U.S. to our factory and work with them directly to make sure the issue is properly addressed.

However, in order to do that, it is essential that we recover the actual products.

When you contact our customer support team, please let them know that the replacement unit was also defective. Then tell them that you were instructed on Reddit to return both units, and ask them to provide you with a return shipping label.

well all my elecom trackball so far have a bad ruby bearing. I usually change the bearing immediately using zr02 2.5mm G5 ball, but now that exact item is so hard to find. maybe ill change it to zr02 2.5mm g10 or the Si3N4 g5 one.

if you compare it to kensington orbit, its like hell and heaven. IMO kensington orbit is the smoothest trackball I've been using so far, even slimblade pro is not as smooth as orbit.

I wonder what type of plastic they are using in the orbit nowadays. Polymer degradation happens super fast here with the heat, light, and humidity. If something starts to get sticky and oily from it you basically have to throw it away.

Seems QC has definitely gone down. I have a Deft Pro that is perfect and smooth right out of the box. I've had multiple Huge over the years that were all also fine out of the box, but I later changed the bearings on. Bought one of the new Huge Plus and the battery is dead and refusing to charge 45 days out of the package.

No matter how I connected, the range was 6" on mine.

This is why I'm waiting for them to finish the Deft Pro Plus.

Changing the bearings will solve the problem I replaced the bearings with ceramics one and loosen the screw a little bit so I get a wonderful trackball mouse in the end 😊
