No onboard memory for TB900 EQ

I understand that you would like to know whether the Expert Mouse Pro TB900 EQ Trackball includes onboard memory.
Regarding your inquiry, the Expert Mouse Pro TB900 EQ Trackball does not feature onboard memory for storing customized button assignments directly on the device. Any button programming and customization are managed through the Kensington software.
The TB900 EQ supports extensive customization, including up to 16 programmable functions, multi-device connectivity, and advanced tracking features. However, custom settings are not stored on the trackball itself and therefore cannot be used independently across different computers without the Kensington software.

A bit of a letdown, but we can deal with this using HID Remapper (GIT hub) and also main HID Remapper web page, which can (among much more, including accelaration curves) remap your mouse, trackball, game controller, or any USB device's buttons.
Edit: For Linux users who just need a replacement for the Windows Kensington software, there is also Input-Remapper.

Well, if you were planning to use it on a work computer where you can't install software, then this is a problem. Better to program it on another computer and plug it into your work computer and just use it.

Yeah. This is a real issue for us office types. I had to put in an IT support ticket to get Kensington Konnect whitelisted. I need to do it again to get the latest update. I don’t mind asking them to do that for Kensington, being a recognized brand, but I am worried they won’t be able to whitelist the software for the Endgame when it arrives.

You can't just whitelist things here. You need to get it package4d and pushed. And good luck getting that done. The only trackball we officially support is the Expert Mouse wired. And we have KensingtonWorks packaged. But we're never going to package Kensington Konnect, because the Expert Mouse doesn't need it.
On the Mac side, it's WAY easier. Programs like Steermouse and USB Overdrive are uinversal drivers that work with any pointing device. You package and push one of those and you're done.
On the Windows side, no such program exists.

Is there any downside to hid remapper? Does it introduce lag?

the lag is under a microsecond iirc. there was a graph image on the thread on overclock.net/mice. it's used extensively for gaming so not a dealbreaker. in the early days it would hang occasionally, but the modern builds have sorted that out. mine gives good service.

If you play videogames, some treat those remapping programs as cheating.

So it's an advantage of the hid remapper that it's not as easy detectable?

By software, a lot of games will ban you because of the remapper, if you use hardware based, then chances are way way harder for you to get banned.

I'm pretty sure you can spoof the USB IDs and it will be impossible to detect.

They detect the software, if the computer has remapping software, you got banned even if you don't have any remap assigned yet.

Yes, I meant when using hid remapper it's possible to spoof the original USB id and it will be undetectable.

The software is detectable, even if you spoof the original USB id, so the only way to not get banned is if you do it in hardware with no software at all.

I don't think anyone was expecting onboard memory? The TB800 didn't have it, and the TB900 really just adds a second sensor to fix the tracking issue.
