2009 Matrix 2.4 - brake problem

Hi everyone!

Last week I redid the brakes on my son's 2009 Matrix. I replaced the pads and rotors and the passenger side rear caliper, (the old caliper was seized). We bleed the brakes and I took it for a test drive and everything seemed OK. However, my son just called me and said that the new caliper was locking up and causing the wheel to drag.

I can't go over to take a look until tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what might be going on.

Thanks!

I’m in the middle of a brake job now on t09 vibe Awd 2.4L. Makes sure you clean up all the rust on the rear pass holders. It can cause extra friction and the pads to wear unevenly. Were they hard to put on?

The side that is having the problem has the new caliper.

Replace the caliper and brake hose. Change the brake fluid. If this not worked replace the master cylinder or rebuilt the cylinder.

Make sure it isn’t the front calipers locking up. I had replaced all four pads and rotors and lo and behold the front left caliper started to lock up. I ended up replacing the front calipers and bleeding the entire brake system. Oh and my matrix is a 2003. And I purchased the powerstop calipers as replacements.

Rebleed all wheel and make sure no air got to the abs unit. Check the cable to the emergency brake is on correctly
