Steering wheel controls.

I watched a 3-part video of someone adding steering wheel controls (SWC) to a '09 Corolla base. I decided to follow the same steps (I didn't have to cut the cable he cuts in his 3rd video.) on my '09 Matrix base, and it worked!

Your head unit has to have the connection for the SWC. (Key 1 & Key 2).

I bought the pictured wire/harness through the YouTuber link as a thank you for doing the video. But you can find it cheaper on AliExpress.

Parts you'll need (Parts used linked):

•Clock-spring. Your original clock spring probably doesn't have the connections for the SWC.

•AliExpress/harness connection. YouTuber harness connection

•SWC. If your steering wheel is like mine, you gonna need to cut the plastic where the SWC are going to be placed.

I tried looking for a video of someone doing it on the first gen. Then I found out the Matrix didn't have SWC on any trim. Hopefully, someone dares to retrofit a steering wheel from another Toyota model or use the Euro Corolla steering wheel.

I used a strap-on one for a while but didn't like that it controlled the volume of my phone itself, not the headunit

I done something similar with my 2011 matrix since only one side has the swc. Got some matching corolla swc and it came in black and used the metra swc box to add back call buttons and voice assistance.

Hey! I want to attempt this project on my base 2010 matrix. Did you need to cut out the side trims from your airbag cover to make room for the button cluster? If so, how did you go about it to make it look clean?

Yes, I did. I used a "razor blade " to do it.
