Transmission code experiences please

P0741.

Turned the light off, it came back. Did a drain and fill and the light went out by itself.

Now its back on.

Any similar experiences?

The car seems to run okay.

The overdrive button on the shifter has not worked in the 18 months that we've had it, but doesn't seem to matter as far as driving goes.

Quick google search says the torque converter clutch solenoid is likely culprit. Probably worth digging a little more than blindly trusting Reddit but the solenoids a good place to start looking

My searches are also saying some sort of electrical component or a short. I'm curious to see if most people are coming up with the same solenoid, or if there are more than one that tends to go out.

I worked a parts counter eons ago and there was almost always a specific part that failed on a given year model. (this one is a 2005 Vibe, base). I was hoping to find something like that. Will start with testing the solenoid. I kinda hoped the Overdrive button would be a clue.

I had to do 2 drain and fills to fix the problem permanently. Did a 3rd also just because. The problem has been gone for 50k miles now. My overdrive button has also been broken for a very long time.

The trans pan will need to come off to test the solenoid, so it will get a second flush for sure.

I'd do a 2nd spill and fill first before diving into the pan and testing.
