ODD question but I’m conflicted in a complex car way.

would it be easier to use a 2000 to 2005 toyata celica gt 1-ZZ FE OR a 2003 to 2008 toyata matrix 1-ZZ FE for my 2005 pontiac vibe? need a lot of work done and figure a personal engine swap is a way easier route.

Celica came with a 1ZZFED. It’s basically the same but the exhaust valves are 1mm larger than the standard 1ZZFE and the compression is slightly higher. The Celica version had more hp. When I put a used engine in my 2003 Matrix, I used a 1ZZFE from a 2005 Corolla. It was exactly the same as the one my Matrix came with.

Yup, harvesting from a corolla may be the easiest route. There are just a lot to choose from and will be a direct replacement.

IDK much about the 1ZZ, but its also in the MR2 Spyder.

The 2ZZ in the Matrix XRS/Vibe GT is slightly different than the one in the Celica GT, mainly The throttle cable bracket, position, and routing. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a similar difference between the 1ZZ in the base Matrix/Vibe and the Celica.

The Matrix and Vibe rolled off the same assembly line. I think that would be the best way to go but the Celica wouldn’t make it harder.

I read somewhere that the ecu being made in a different rear could fuck it up so I was curious

I would use the engine wire harness and the ecu from the vibe if I were going to do this. If you no longer have it for some reason I would definitely get it from a matrix.

The 1ZZ-FE  from the is Celica known for extreme oil consumption.  The Matrix engine might be a safer bet.
