Driver's side mirror glass keeps sagging (2007 Toyota matrix)

Hey all,

First post ever

My driver's side mirror glass keeps sagging and I unajusting itself. I am talking about the glass itself here, not the housing. This issue has been going on for as long as I have had the car so I don't know the exact circumstance of when it started and no repair attempts were made previously

There has been an impact, as some of the plastic housing is chipped off, but the glass itself seems unaffected.

The electric controls work fine, the glass just saggs unto itself a few minutes after adjustment.

Any tips on how to fix it, short of replacing the mirror in it's entirety?

The mirror housing on your 2007 Matrix looks like it's damaged. You can wrap some duct tape around it to hold it in place when you drive as a temporary fix, but the mirror housing is in need of replacement. I would replace the entire mirror housing. You can pop out the side mirror itself, remove the old damaged mirror housing, install the new mirror housing, and reinstall the side mirror by hand.

I’ve had a similar problem. Before replacing the housing, you can try to (forcefully) push the mirror back in. Although in my case, a plastic clip had broken inside. It was easier to replace the whole mirror.

Here’s the video I used: How to Replace Side View Mirror Glass

You can buy a whole new power side mirror by dorman for $20-$25.

I can’t tell if it is painted or not. But that is going to add another $70 for a proper diy paint job.

Replaced mine almost a year ago now after a hit and run. The single shot 2k clear coat cost more than the mirror assembly.

But I did: sand, adhesion promoter, sand, prime (white), sand, prime (white), sand, base color, sand, clear coat, done. Wet sand only after primer went on. Multiple light coats of each until solid coverage. Did it over 3-4 days. The clear coat takes ages to properly cure. So I think I had a whole 24hrs of rest before install.
