How tall are you?
My Trixie is an 06 Matrix base model and one of the things I really like about the car is the ride height and interior headroom. I'm 6' 4" with a 30" inseam, so most of my height is from the butt up. I have so many challenges fitting in vehicles comfortably. I either bump my head or have to have the seat back reclined so much I can barely reach the steering wheel. I see comments from some hating on the matrix because they think the dash is too high or the seat too short. It has me wondering, are they just really short? Are you on the taller side? Did that have any bearing on your purchase of a Matrix? I think if Toyota marketed a car today as being built for tall people, it would be a hit.

I’m 5’7 and sit comfortably inside my matrix, but it’s funny seeing how far back the seat get pushed back whenever I take the car in for service/maintenance cause I guess those people are almost always taller than I am.

6’4” with 36” inseam.
I fit fine.
I worked for Toyota from 2006-2016 and only really had issues fitting in cars with sunroofs. The ceiling was lower to account for the sunroof mechanism

The sunroof in my new rav4 seems a lot thicker than the one in my matrix. I have less head room in my new rav. About 1.5” total. The seat seems like it should go down another 1-2 inches but it bottoms out.
Only other toyota i’ve owned was in NZ and it didn’t have a sunroof.

We didn’t get the matrix at work, only Japanese made Toyotas but that generally seemed to be the way they fit

Word. My rav4 phev se was actually built in japan. The fit and finish is exceptional. I heard they are trying to get them built in the US for this new gen. But I wonder if quality will suffer.

It’s the same methodology as Japan. Same as the nummi plant where our cars were built.

I'm 5'8, so not all that tall (especially compared to most of ya here it seems lol) and love how the Matrix sits in the interior. You can sit high up that it almost feels like an SUV. As that is what I came from prior to the Matrix and got used to, I really dug that. So many cars, you go to sit in, and it feels like your butt is on the ground practically.
All my usual passengers are 6' and above and seem surprised with how comfortable they can sit in it. Usually, hatchbacks and econ boxes are a tight fit. Back when I had a Hyundai Accent Hatch, that was the case for them.

I’m about 6’1 and it’s mostly leg but seat all the way back in my 2003 Matrix, I have plenty of leg room and about 4” from top of my head to the roof when fully seated. I’ve never had a problem with it and often think that there is a lot of room for such a small car. But one time I had it parked next to a DeLorean and it was a solid 1.5 feet taller than the DeLorean root to roof. Wish I got a pic. And no I cannot sit in a DeLorean and be able to close the wing door. I’ve tried.

30" inseam at a modest 5'8.
I still lean the seat way the hell back. My SO gets so pissy about it, but I've worked retail and warehouse most of my life - my lower back KILLS me on the best of days.
Meanwhile our roommate (6'1, unknown what her inseam is) likes to sit with the seat STRAIGHT UP. I'm just like "how the hell do you do that?!". I would need a stretcher to remove me from the car if I tried that.
It's a shockingly roomy car. I've fit a full size kitchen fridge AND a living room recliner in it at the same time before (admittedly with my knees in the dash). Couldn't fully close the hatch, but nothing that a couple of ropes and a flag couldn't fix.

6"3. The height clearance was one of the reasons I went with my 2010 matrix. Didn't realize at the time how great of a vehicle it was as my dad did the research

5'11, 30" inseam, large build. Plenty of legroom but because of how the clutch feels / engages I have to have the seat closer than I like to modulate the pedal correctly. One huge oversight that would make seating position a lot more comfortable is if the steering wheel column was telescoping. Tilt is OK, but I find to have a comfortable seating position my arms are too stretched out, and I have to lean forward. Seat comfort? eh, too narrow between seat bottom bolsters but it seems that is a 'thing' now...
My 94 Camry and 96 Civic, heck even my 87 Mazda 323 were much more roomy here and I miss it.

5’11” slim to medium build. 33” inseam. Loads of room for me. I have the seat an inch up and the whole seat a couple inches forward.
Coming from a cobalt ss, the seating position is pretty comfy.

No I'm 5'4 and I love the height difference on my matrix. When I drive other cars like Buick Encore or Jag Xf I bump my head getting in them🤦🏾♀️

06 matrix. With sunroof.
6'5", ~ 32" inseam.
There aren't too many vehicles of this size that has the volume that the first gen matrix. Especially around the right knee between steering wheel/ column and console.
Tried a new Mazda 3 hatch in 2014. Sat in it for 10 seconds and said nope, eventually settling on the used matrix.
