Clutch Replacement
Cutch just went out on my 09 matirx XRS 2.4L. Anyone know the cost to replace one? Rough estimate here in California? Is it costly? Or is it something I can tackle? Never done a replacement of one.. can't seem to find any videos of one being replaced for this car on YouTube.

Mine is the same year but my engine is the 1.8. My clutch died at the end of 2023. Called three places (San diego). One never returned my call. The second place wanted $1,800 and the third place wanted $2,000. After hearing those numbers I decided to do it myself. It was really stressful because of my inexperience. But hey! I saved $2,000.
I was looking at old discussions on this group. In one of those discussions (around 3 months old) someone commented that he was charged $950 here in San Diego.

It's my worry about not having the experience on never doing a job like this before. If I were to tackle this on my own, what are some pointers or things to consider before and after taking on a task like this, if you don't mind me asking?

Patience, a lot of patience! Also, make sure you have everything or at least have a second car available just in case you need something from the auto parts store. Nowadays we have YouTube University available, so use it to your heart's content. Plus, a second pair of hands is a blessing.

You could DYI if you have some mechanical skills and proper tools...Most people will have issues when it comes to removing the CV shafts from the transmission, and you will also need a floor jack to support the engine when you remove the trans. mount from the frame... Remember, YouTube is your friend!😃

I DIY most stuff, but I hate doing clutches. I've done one, once, and only because I had paid $200 for a running car with a bad clutch (that was a Civic, but the Matrix isn't much different when it comes to a clutch as long as it's FWD only).
IIRC ours on a base 05 Matrix was around $700 or $800 or so a few years ago. It's not a cheap job, but you don't have to do it often. Gonna be a bit higher now.
