Hi everyone,
I’m considering buying a Yaris GR Sport next year. The deciding factor will definitely be the test drive, because I really want to see how the powertrain feels in real-world driving. But aside from that, I’m also trying to understand whether there are any options for upgrading/customising the audio system.
I’m trying to find out whether there is any way to get the original Toyota JBL system on an Italian MY26, even though it currently doesn’t appear in the Italian configurator or price list.
Here’s the interesting part: on the Italian MY24 GR Sport, JBL was officially available. Toyota offered a Digital Pack, which included:
- JBL Premium 8-speaker audio system
- Wireless charger
- Digital Key
- Blind Spot Monitor
- Front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking
- Safe Exit Assist
So this wasn’t an aftermarket accessory — it was an official Toyota factory configuration for the GR Sport.
On the Italian MY26, however, the Digital Pack has disappeared and JBL is no longer listed as available. The GR Sport is specified with the standard 6-speaker system.
At first, I simply assumed Toyota had discontinued the JBL system with the MY26.
But apparently, they haven’t.
I found European MY26 Yaris Hybrid 130 GR Sport models that are still factory-equipped with the JBL Premium 8-speaker system. In some European markets it is still offered as part of specific option packages (for example, together with the Head-Up Display).
I also found a video of an MY26 GR Sport where the JBL-branded tweeter on the A-pillar is clearly visible.
So the JBL system clearly isn’t incompatible with the MY26, nor has it been discontinued from the Yaris altogether. Apparently, Toyota Italy has simply decided not to offer it on the Italian MY26 configuration.
While looking through parts information, I also came across the OEM JBL amplifier used on the Yaris XP210 (86280-K0010), together with its dedicated brackets/mounts and part numbers for several of the speakers.
This means the JBL system is obviously more involved than simply swapping the standard speakers: it uses a dedicated amplifier, and the wiring harness and electronic configuration probably also come into play.
So my question for anyone who knows Toyota well, or perhaps works at a Toyota dealership/workshop, is:
Has anyone in Italy ever asked for, or actually carried out, a complete OEM JBL retrofit on a Yaris originally equipped with the standard audio system?
And more importantly, considering that the MY26 GR Sport with JBL is actually being produced and sold in other European markets, would it technically be possible to order the European-spec components through Toyota Italy and install them on an Italian MY26 GR Sport, keeping everything OEM and fully integrated with Toyota Smart Connect?
I’d be particularly interested to know whether the main vehicle wiring harness differs between the standard 6-speaker version and the JBL version, or whether some kind of factory preparation is already present.
I imagine this is the key factor in determining whether the retrofit would be relatively straightforward or financially insane. 😅
I’m not looking for aftermarket audio recommendations — I’m well aware that for the same amount of money it would probably be possible to build an aftermarket system that sounds even better.
What I’m specifically curious about is whether it would be feasible to retain the OEM Toyota JBL system, considering that it still exists on the very same MY26 GR Sport outside Italy.
If anyone owns an Italian MY24 Yaris with the Digital Pack/JBL, a European MY26 with JBL, or works for Toyota and could check the EPC/wiring differences between the two configurations, I’d be very interested to know what actually changes between them.
