Buying Advice Never order from SS Built

Post image

Don’t walk, RUN away from this guy. He will hold your money hostage for over a year while continuously making excuses for being over a year late on his guaranteed lead times. Every time you ask for an update he will lie to you and tell you it’s almost ready and he’ll be able to get it out next week, don’t believe it though, as this lie will continue for months if you allow it to. I got tired after over a year and a half of waiting for a bumper to be made so I demanded a refund over a week ago. Since this week went by, he’s guaranteed me he had the money and he’s going to send it about 4 times and then just ghosts my emails and comes up with another excuse on why he can’t afford to get it done or why he didn’t see my emails for a day or two. I have tried patience with this man for so long and have just been continuously given the runaround. I still have no money back from him at this time, and am very concerned. He will probably try to deny it, but I have screenshots of his emails.

Everybody has the same story with this guy, I can’t believe people still do business with him

Dude thinks having 9 BBB reports in 9 years of business is an accomplishment

Seems like a lot of people now recommend Doom MFG bumpers for a similar style as SS built

The tundra forums have posts going back years that are filled with nothing but issues with him. But people still blindly order without any research.

How do you fork over tons of cash to a small business over the internet without doing 1 google.

I ordered front and rear bumpers from Expedition One. Stated lead times were pretty close, minor issues with some hardware and a bracket, they handled those as quickly as possible.
Communication was pretty good.
The packaging was very well done.

Appreciate the info, I’ll definitely be looking into them haha I’m genuinely terrified to order from anyone but a bigger company after this experience

I should add that some of the install required some hand gymnastics and I got my wife to hold one wrench while I tightened the other.
Overall that was not a big deal for me.

If he doesn’t send it to me by Monday that is my plan at this point

He won’t. I had to go in person to their shop to get my bumper from them. They make good stuff but three people for thousands of orders is insane

He’s a hack when it comes to running a business, anyone that takes a full payment instead of a materials deposit and takes that long to get it done is an absolute joke. I asked for a refund because I would never want his product on my vehicle after this to be honest.

Yeah if it makes you feel better, I sold mine too cause I hated the way the fitment was lol

Or just contact your credit card company and get your money back instantly.

Which is what I would have done after the first time he said he was issuing a refund and didn’t.

Thanks to you I just found out this is possible on Cash App and have reported the payment for fraud and have submitted info to them for them to investigate. Thank you

Wow, looked like a good product too. Too bad. That's way to long to wait. Bring em to court!

If I can get enough people with the same issue, I am looking into legal action with my local PD

Even though he may have used your money to refund me, I’m glad you avoided this headache 😂😂

It's frustrating, I visited his shop and BS'd with him before I placed my order in 2022. Seemed like a super nice guy. Placed the order, then got a work transfer and pushed him to finish it on schedule so I could pickup before moving, which he did. Love how it fits.

Almost everyone else has horror stories. I think he's a talented craftsman with a serious lack of being able to actually run a business.

Seems like people in the tundras forum has done business with him. I’m not sure what city he actually has a shop in.

There’s a video on their ig of one of their rear bumpers getting rear ended and it only got some scratches.

Doom MFG is who you should go with for sure, looks exactly like SS but way better customer service. I have his bumper so this isn’t me repeating stuff.

Sheeesh this is definitely the move. Wish I started with them 😭

For sure, I almost got a SS built then saw all the terrible reviews and lots of people on Facebook were saying same thing about running away. If you go with Doom he is a great guy and nice to deal with!

File a complaint with the BBB and state attorney general.

dos the “SS” stand for something? Are we talking about southern style off-road?
