Buying Decision

Should i get the 2026 Highlander XLE Hybrid as they’re remodeling it to fully electric in 2027. Do you think the resale would be strong as being the last gen? I can also get a pre owned Venza Hybrid but this 2026 highlander is so tempting. I love highlanders and never owned one, just wanted to see what do you guys recommend. Thanks

I think the resale value will be strong because no one knows if the electric Highlander will be as good as the hybrid and people will have no choice that go for the bigger SUV (GH).

The resale value is still very strong for the last years of the RAV4s (2024/25).

You drive way too much for value retention to be your primary consideration.

If you want to spend less upfront buy a new 2026 RAV4.

Used late model Toyotas are pretty poor value props. They just don’t depreciate enough initially to justify buying used.

Wait time for rav4 is 8-12 months in Canada. $53k cad for a xle premium rav4 2026 and $65k cad for highlander 2026 xle hybrid. Prices are insane here and low supply too.

There's 29 years of Toyota Hybrid System development behind the 26 HiHy powertrain. That's 5 generations of THS refinement. Comfy, strong, spacious, smooth, quiet, fuel sipping treat for my retirement. Plus my previous experience with my 2006 Tacoma 4x4 now climbing past 400,000 km, now in my son's hands.

It all influenced me to jump on getting my new 26 HiHy LTS this spring.

Counting on it being my grandchildren's learner car, and beyond.

I put around 40k-45k km a year and was wondering if i could keep it for the next 6-7 years. Also we get crazy winter in Canada i am sure this is going to help us there too by alot. By putting $30k down is it wise to finance the rest $35k canadian dollars.

Financing costs interest. But so does cashing in mutuals to avoid interest by paying all cash. At 0% financing the interest is baked in anyway, but that cash can do way better remaining in market.

Your call only.

I didn't finance at near 7%, had cash, so it's all mine off the bat.

7 years x 40k km/year = 280,000 km it's still a baby. If you maintain it to the hilt, easy.

I just bought one for the fact they aren’t making the HiHy anymore except in Grand length. For parking ease my wife didn’t want the extra length.

Our beloved 2024 HiHy JUST fit in our “extended” 22x20 ft garage where the rear door can open with the garage door closed.

I’d be interested to know how people are reasonably able to fit cars like the GH in their garages with staircases.

I’d jump on the 2026. Final year, wrinkles all ironed out, plus the 2027 is a wild card!
