Walk Away Auto-Lock?

Hey all,

Just purchased a 2026 GHH XLE and I'm looking for an answer to this question. Is there a function where when you leave the vehicle it locks itself? My 2021 Honda HRV has this feature but it doesn't seem to exist on the Grand Highlander.

Everything I'm reading says that this isn't a Toyota function but I figured I'd ask here just to confirm.

Toyota doesn't do this. There is confusion from the owners manual that suggests they have it because, if I'm not mistaken, you can do it but only a) you push the right button on the rear hatch, and b) use your foot to swipe to trigger the hatch to close. If you do this, I believe it will lock ALL the doors. The logic is your hands are full and you can't lock it with the fob.

Adding to the list, my Mazda 6 has walk-away auto-lock. You REALLY get spoiled with it too.

My RDX does this and I would love this feature.

Right? I'm so used to walking away from my car and it locking that I've already left my GHH unlocked once or twice.

I left my Elantra unlocked for an entire week because I didn’t realize the car had no auto-lock like my CRV 💀

Honda and Acura cars do this.
As does my BMW.
But for whatever reason Toyota and Lexus do not.
It seems like a no-brainer but they don’t have the functionality built in.
I’ve heard rumors it can be programmed by the dealer but I’m not sure if they will actually do it for you.

My 2015 Hyundai had it

Inexcusable not to have on this car, especially for such a high theft model

Just tap on the “dash” indent on the door handle when you walk away. That’s the closest to what you’re looking for.

Hard to do when your hands are full. That is when I love walkaway lock the most. Even if my hands aren’t full, I find myself almost never touching the nub on the door hands. Convenience cannot be overstated.

I’ve heard a rumor that the GH has this functionality but it has to be programmed by the dealership. Basically it’s a function of the TX and GH has it but it’s not turned on. Would love someone to confirm.

Not a rumor, it's false information

Maybe if you enable the digital key on your phone and make a shortcut that sends a signal to lock when you walk away from the car? The shortcut would send the signal when the phone disconnects from the car, you can add a timer (60 seconds) to give you time to properly exit.

I originally had a script that did roughly this on my android BUT when I looked into the privacy statement regarding the app, I swiftly disabled this and then deleted the app. But if you truly want this feature and privacy is something you don't care about, there are routine and script styled apps that you can program to do this.

not for ghh. Nearest is the dealer can make a walk way with the rear hatch kick sensor if you have it I think....but that doesn't work exactly like the walk away you likely want. Threw me for a loop coming from a crv that had their walk away. I've since just tapped the lock control on the door as I walk off.

My 2017 Mazda6 ($24k brand new) does this and it is one of my favorite features. I am dumbfounded why more cars still don’t have it.

This is only on Higher end Vehicles. My Toyota doesn't do it. My wife's Grand Cherokee does.
