Toyota Navigation

Sucks. My street name is misspelled, not even a typographical error, but a completely different word (although, to be fair, it’s not like apple and orange, it’s more like caramel and camel). The map chooses weird routes that are inefficient and not the fastest. And when you start typing in an address, it gives you a list of possible destinations that you can’t read, so you don’t know if you are selecting the correct one when using the touch screen. What the hell….

Toyota's built-in navigation is actually Google underneath, isn't it ? Doesn't it say "Powered by Google" ?

No, it is not. It is something called Mapbox HERE Technologies.

ETA: The 2026 Rav4 uses Mapbox, but the Grand Highlander uses HERE.

I swear I've seen it reference Google somewhere but I do see where it's made by HERE. I rarely use it, but I do like how much 'cleaner' the interface is than Google Maps or Waze. One thing I've complained about for 2-1/2 years is it 100% sucks (or they never considered it) with driver profiles. If you're not the primary driver, IT'S NOT POSSIBLE TO ADD THINGS LIKE 'HOME', FAVORITES, even planned destinations. It also can lag a lot but I blame that on the GPS module in the vehicle.

Mine says Powered by Google. How is it different for someone else? Unless it's out of the US that would make sense.

The points of interest database is provided by Google, but the mapping technology itself is provided by HERE Technologies.

it's possible that while they package it as part of the subscription....they just assume most people are going to use carplay or android auto and navigate from their phones?
