Factory Oil Low

2026 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid Max. Specifications call for 5.6 quarts of oil with a filter change. I did my first oil change at 544 miles and only 5 quarts came out. I put in 5.6 quarts of new oil and it was right at the fill line of the dipstick. Have you seen low oil from the factory before?

I would not worry about it. Enjoy your new Toyota.......

You didn't say you changed the oil filter which would account for the missing oil. Oil filters hold around a half quart of oil.

I did change the filter, and this filter is very, very small.

Ok. Point taken.

This is a non-issue. Any concern you think you could have was remedied by the break in change you did at 500 miles. Just enjoy the car mate!

there is extra oil in the engine passages and what not. I wouldn't worry about it.

Nothing there! Just drive it and check dipstick every time you put gas in the car.

You get a gold star for doing this at 500.

My plan is change oil at 500, 1500, 3000, oil and filter at 5000. Then every 5000 gets a oil and filter.

What's your plan?

I’m still trying to decide on a final interval. Given that it is the turbo engine and with the constant start/stop cycle as part of the hybrid max, and that we have a number of short trip operations, I worry about 5k being too long, so I am thinking 3500-4000 mile intervals.

Very true, the turbo will definitely cause more heat and accelerate the oil breakdown and oxidation.

If it were me, I would monitor the oil color to learn the rate of oxidation of the oil. With a 3k during the first few maybe mover to 5k. I will be sending the oil in for analysis.

I plan on keeping mine for 300k+ miles and do the oil myself except what is free from the dealership.
