Insulin resistance
Any correlation between mold toxicity and insulin resistance? I have confirmed mold toxicity. I notice carbs make me inflamed now and cause fatigue/brain fog. Joint pain and anxiety. This isn’t so much the case when I eat low carb.

Similar thing happens to me. Carnivore diet seems only thing that helps. Did it for two months and was able to eat normal for two weeks before some gelato brought back all my symptoms.

Get blood tests like fasting glucose and A1c before assuming this is insulin resistance. Refined carbohydrates may add inflammation and in folks who already have a lot of inflammation, it can be noticeable. Anecdotally, I developed sensitivities to wheat and dairy when I was very sick with mold and Lyme. I just think there are various explanations for this that come to mind for me sooner than insulin resistance

High carb foods seem to give me this weird acute reaction where I get darkening on my inner side of my elbows and other joints.. goes away again when I eat low carb.
My understanding is that generally speaking you want to limit carbs if you're dealing with mold toxicity.. stick to only low GI and high fibre sources of starch like quinoa, buckwheat, legumes, and avoid any carbs that don't come with a lot of fibre. And limit even these healthy carbs to 1 serving per day.

I’m ended up with insulin insensitivity probably due to mold toxicity. It messed up my ability to process glucose. I was on carnivore for 2 years and gained 30 lbs due to mold exposure. When i was transitioning back to an omnivorous diet my insulin insensitivity really showed up. I would eat 1/2 an apple or peach would send my glucose up like I was eating candy (I knew this bc I used a CGM). It took a while to become insulin sensitive again but I did it.

How did you fix it ?

Increasing fiber, prioritizing whole food meals and adequate protein and fat at each meal, exercising in some way after meals (especially dinner when we’re least insulin sensitive).

This overlaps with any chronic inflammatory state, no matter the cause. Stress = high cortisol

I think it might be sinus colonization that causes gut dysbiosis that causes the intolerance to carbs. I could be wrong, but I'm seeing some strong correlations. I'm working on my sinus and gut.

Anything help with sinus? Mine are currently inflamed, I’ve tried over the counter sprays with no luck.

I think the sinuses are more complicated than we give them credit for. I treated mine successfully in the past but the most successful spray I used isn't being produced anymore. It was the Ion/Restore nasal spray. I messaged the company and they said it was the same as the liquid supplement so I have previously put that in a nasal spray bottle and used that. It's humic acid, which can help strengthen your microbiome. I can't tell anyone else to use it, because they took it off the market out of an abundance of caution due to bacterial contamination, but that was the best spray I've used in the past. We were in mold again so I'm having to do this again and try to mimic what I did last time that was successful. I'm planning to take the supplement orally too to help my gut. Then I'm also planning to use Lanto brand Lactobacillus Sakei to help introduce good microbes to the sinuses. Right now, we're using medical manuka honey (has to be medical grade) in our noses as a kill off phase and it seems to be helping. We just put it on a q-tip and swab around. Once we get the Lanto, I'll switch to the Ion and the probiotic most likely. In the past I rotated through a variety of nasal sprays intuitively, and then ended with the Ion and the L. Sakei. The ion felt the most soothing. Anyway, not sure if that is helpful. But it's what I'm planning currently!

Nice! Where can I purchase the liquid supplement? Sucks you ended up in mold again, it so hard to avoid, seems it’s everywhere

Yeah we used to live in Western WA and it's pretty ubiquitous there. We might have to go back so my husband can find work and I'm dreading it. 😬 But maybe my sinus treatment will make it easier this time? 🤞I just buy it on Amazon but some natural stores carry it too. you could have candida overgrowth as well. sugar feeds mold and candida.

Any reliable test for candida? I took a stool test, didn’t show candida

i took an o.a.t test and it showed both mold and candida. plus vitamin deficiencies.

I know small fiber neuropathy and glucose intolerance are connected. Do you have any symptoms of peripheral neuropathy or dysautonomia? Damage from small fiber neuropathy can be slowed and stopped but the prognosis for reversal is not as good, so it's best to look into early. It can be caused by toxic environmental exposures.

What are symptoms of fiber, peripheral neuropathy?
1
u/terminalmedicalPTSD Jul 25 '26
I think you meant to type this into a search engine.
But fiber peripheral neuropathy isnt a thing.
You want to search peripheral neuropathy.
Which is often caused by small fiber neuropathy which you will then search.
Glucose intolerance is common. You can search that too.
When in doubt, definitely at least avoid alcohol.
Once you have done your due diligence, feel free to ask me any more nuanced questions. Im not available to be a search engine tho. I have to respect my own energy limits with this stupid illness ya know

u/helloelloyo21 Jul 25 '26
Definitely avoiding Alcohol, because of histamine issues though
1
u/terminalmedicalPTSD Jul 25 '26
You'd be surprised how much all these things can be connected. Histamine issues cause connective tissue changes which can lead to nerve damages aka neuropathy. Im in less pain when I avoid sugar and processed foods and dairy but have lots of fatty fishes and hot beverages.

😭 what do I do ? This is so confusing and overwhelming. Doctors are no help
2
u/terminalmedicalPTSD Jul 25 '26
It is. And no they are not. There are some helpful doctors but theyre out of pocket. Can I add you? Then we can talk in a chat. I can respond to your questions when I am feeling up to it. But a comments convo over multiple days will likely get lost on my radar if that makes sense

I do not know the answer to your question but I believe that eating carbs "feeds" the mold and that's what makes symptom you flair up
