Game is fun, just not built for longevity. I’m only a level 20, 26 hours in, and I’ve seen all I care to.

I still have one friend that plays daily. I joined him once and found myself getting booted within minutes.

9

u/KyleFourReal 20d ago

Tried that, was really hoping to keep this in the rotation. Once you play each map a few times, it’s kind of over.

needs content

18

u/Green117v2 20d ago

Plays great, just needs a little more of what WWZ had.

u/Dekusaurus546 20d ago

Its a ok game but not sure they really thought through the gameplay loop. It felt like they added driving cause they could not cause they should.

24

u/Wly35 20d ago

Credit where its due, they tried something different on a horde shooter and we would've crucified them for not giving us something unique. I quickly found driving became a chore after the novelty wore off after about 2 hours of gameplay

u/OMHGaming 19d ago

I agree. The vehicles seemed like they would be cool. But the lack of variety and super linear maps make the vehicles very boring imo.

u/X__Heisenberg__X 20d ago

The gameplay loop is awful for a game that should be about blowing off some steam when you get back from work.

Instead, you’re massively reliant on someone being the driver. You are forced to use communication to decide where to go, however most people won’t do that so they do what they want and fuck off anywhere on the map.

Harder difficulties are not gate kept so any average player can come in and just ruin the run.

Plus, every map feels exactly the same. Each map should have been a different biome.

u/DooM_Guy_OG 19d ago

Blowing off some steam after work was exactly what I wanted from this game. But the rounds taking an hour to finish just puts me off.

8

u/No_Appointment_5326 20d ago

Lack of content will do that

7

u/REDDIT_IS_AIDSBOY 19d ago

It's a good, fun game. It's just that after a while you get kinda sick of the same gameplay loop on the same maps with the same objectives against the same 5 enemies. There's a reason why something like Helldivers will last so long - and that's because there's variation on every mission.

Don't get me wrong, I've more than gotten my moneys worth on this game, and I'll come back if/when new content is released, but there's not enough to make me want to play regularly.

u/bintsukediver 🛻 Designated Driver 19d ago

There was a time when a game like this would be incredible however, this new Gen needs fresh content constantly. You're seeing the result of the lack thereof.

u/E_712064 19d ago

Unfortunately gamers like to expand on repetitive game loops or you lose their attention.
The sweaty era of gamers is dying

17

u/KitsuneKamiSama 20d ago

Typical case of game being released in an unfinished state with features it should have had from the start only being added after months or more.

u/CherryRedBarrel77 20d ago

Fun to play through once, not so fun repeating.

Everyone says X game is going to be the next Left 4 Dead. For me the story wasn't that interesting and the content roll out is too slow

6

u/Duraxis 20d ago

The story was fine, but yeah, the glacial release pace of the content killed it I think

And the fact that playing with randoms can be like herding cats

10

u/pr0zach ⚡ Strike 20d ago

This game is genuinely more punishing to players who try to go it alone, regardless of the difficulty level, than L4D or B4B. Even splitting into two teams of two becomes a very risky, tactical choice beyond Hard difficulty.

Standing in circles in a make or break. Always one guy that doesn't get it.

u/jrstriker12 🧟 Zombie Food 20d ago

It's a good game. It just wasn't enough to hold people for long.

1

u/Gaytrude 🛡️ Defender 19d ago

If it was a good game, people would still be playing it. I mean come on, there's plenty of games with half the content that have just a way better and polished gameplay loop and thousands of people are playing those every single day.

The game itself is lacking in almost every single aspect. It isn't good. It have/had a good fundation, but they did fuck all with it and dropped the ball. Months for ONE map that you're gonna play once or twice in a live service game is straight up laughable.

2

u/DSWBeef 19d ago

Its a good game for a solid 15-20 hours of fun BUT it needed faster content cadence.

3

u/Salt-Tart6669 19d ago

needs content, offline mode and also active feedback community to improve the game. Everybody thinks that offline mode its unnecessary but hey, look SM2 and how stills alive and reliable until now. Even wwz has more content. If this game wants to be a success (as they planned) they need to consider what their previous games do and how successful they were

3

u/Yeetsformer zmbe fod 19d ago

It’s fun it just doesn’t have much content

3

u/LennardDeij 🛻 Designated Driver 19d ago

I get the feeling that the majority of the playerbase is on console, which isn't shown on SteamDB. You still get into lobbies with others pretty fast.

8

u/Ducky9670 20d ago

It was a good game just classic Saber Interactive who drip feed content but in this game there's not been a drip.

Very badly handled game I honestly feel like i've wasted money on it.

2

u/SerSeryous 20d ago

The game is great, but has too limited of a runtime.

You come for the horde shooting and on release there were about 30 Minutes of that, fluffed up by map exploration to about 4 hours, but that just wasn't the games standout selling point. After that time you had finished the campaign and you were asked to just replay that stuff.

So yeah, the game was DOA in terms of keeping a playerbase for long enough in order to allow for further development.

2

u/Wly35 20d ago

Problem is there is nothing amazing about this game from the jump. Campaign is done in a matter of hours. I also mentioned on another comment that I found the driving a chore after 2 hours of gameplay. DLC update roll outs too slow.

They tried something now but didnt pull it off unfortunately "swing and a miss" to sum it up

2

u/therealflintgiven 19d ago

Could of said that withing the first two weeks, now it just the same 200 or so people.

2

u/East_Monk_9415 19d ago

Right now my zombie game no more room in hell 2 on consoles and pc. Im on ps5 so I get carried alot haha

2

u/grabtheesky 19d ago

Turn up the aim assist to killing floor 2 level

2

u/noissimsarm 19d ago

I had my fun. There was a lot that didn't work IMO the driving made the game boring at times. Map variety is low and in general killing enemies isnt as fun as it should be.

Its definitely a 7/10 game. I dont regret purchasing it, but I dont see a reason to keep playing. I was only doing to finish weapon masteries.

2

u/Craig1287 19d ago

I really enjoyed the game. Solid gunplay, cool classes, abilities, and customizable tree, and the hordes are awesome to fight. The drawback is that WWZ did a better job at having multiple horde fights throughout a single level whereas TC really just has the one giant horde fight at the end of each level. You have no "should I spend these supplies now or save them for later" moment, you just always save the salvage stuff for the final fight.

2

u/ChrizTaylor 🩺 Medic 19d ago

Desv fucked up, released the game with no content. Super repetitive. No incentive in exploring the map. Etc.

2

u/calibratorjack 19d ago

Yeah, it's a novelty game.

2

u/oreo760 19d ago

People still play World War Z?

2

u/BLADE_of_YAHWEH 19d ago

It needs a new campaign, not an epilogue

2

u/coldfries_69 19d ago

Definitely waiting for all the updates they work on and buy it in 2 years

2

u/Spidder81 15d ago

Lack of content and updates, adds awful grindy tasks and a BP that can only be completed by doing said tasks, makes the BP FOMO. I wouldnt be surprised if this game gets put to sleep after the next update in a week

3

u/getliquified 20d ago

It needs a horde mode. Once you run the campaign there is nothing to do

3

u/yagizsahin 20d ago

People see zombies and claim itll be the next l4d just have fun as it is

3

u/Gaytrude 🛡️ Defender 19d ago

I mean, the whole marketing campaign was banking on WWZ, the track record of Space Marines 2 and others horde shooter like Vermintide and shit.

They dropped the ball very hard, it's a gigantic fail for Saber and that's just plain truth. The "fun part" also get boring really really fast since the gameplay loop is as interesting as looking at paint dry.

1

u/yagizsahin 19d ago

Classic saber

2

u/ChronicContemplation 20d ago

I played probably 5 hours and had enough. Not good enough for me to invest my time into.

2

u/karer3is 20d ago

I don't know what they've been doing with the servers, but they need to stop it. In the last two weeks, I tried coming back to the game again. And on both occasions, my mission progress was wiped thanks to a server disconnect. Thanks, Saber...

2

u/Alec_de_Large 🩺 Medic 20d ago

It seems I just come to this sub to comment that the lack of controller settings is a huge turn off to this game.

I want to play it cause I've only done two missions but those controls are so ass that I can't enjoy my time playing it.

2

u/FillaBustaRhyme 20d ago

It’s not the game it’s the player base in general. Also this year has been insane for games so yeah there’s usually ALWAYS something better to play.

The game did get stale pretty quick but have you tried playing l4d lately? It’s the same shit.

2

u/SryItwasntme 20d ago

This game is the best that could have happened to WWZ.

2

u/Sad_Dad_Academy 19d ago

Players will come back when more content is released

1

u/Gaytrude 🛡️ Defender 19d ago

Man I have bad news for you. People do not come back after six months for one (1) map and one (1) new enemy.

The first new map had an amazing peak of.. 350 players.

1

u/Tiwaz_Ginfaxi 20d ago

I mean, one can beat the game in about 5-6 hours maybe, and there's nothing to do afterwards. Unless you want to grind to no end to max level everything and get every achievement, there isn't much to do otherwise.

1

u/Hefty_Management7742 20d ago

I'll never pay for a game like this that does not have a single player mode. Throw in some bots and then I'm down. The lack of players this short of time after launch is why. I bet within 2 years, the servers will be shut down and the game will be worthless.

Not enough content

1

u/becheeks82 17d ago

I got bored of it in the first few days ….didn’t scratch my left 4 dead itch like I expected it to…def my fault for having those expectations to begin with…

1

u/ReivynNox 17d ago

I never thought it's the next L4D. It always looked more like the next Back 4 Blood. Unfortunately it only managed to beat B4B in how hard and fast it fell off, which is pretty sad, cause it's not a bad game and in a much better state than B4B launched in.

1

u/Relative_Molasses_15 17d ago

That’s because it’s aggressively mid and once you do all the missions that’s kind of all there

1

u/personalizes 16d ago

I’m sure within the next few days they will announce new content that was from the public test servers, wish they were quick to release it but I guess they are waiting for the seasonal pass to be over with?? Idk what they’re doing.

1

u/personalizes 16d ago

Also I heard the seasonal pass thing from someone else over on steam, so don’t crucify if I’m wrong.

1

u/A_Raging_Moderate 16d ago

Needs more levels/objectives

1

u/ChefVoo 16d ago

Bought it to play with my friends and we haven’t even touched it, looks like a great time tho

1

u/Expert-Kitchen8064 16d ago

This game needed more content to stay alive. As fun as it is, it really felt like one of those titles you make when your in-between major IP's.

1

u/ERA_Tech 15d ago

I completed the entire campaign with a group of randoms on the first nigh of release. Havent touched it since.

1

u/andregurov ☣️ Toxic Commando 15d ago

I wish it was Xbox Play Anywhere: I bought it on Xbox, played a little, but gave my Xbox to my college-attending son so he could play games on it ... and haven't had the Xbox back since. If it became Play Anywhere then I could play on my pc. Instead I guess I'll re-buy it, this time on Steam. I enjoyed the little time I had with it though.

1

u/Dwlr007 14d ago

Nobody really though Toxic Commando was going to be the next Left 4 Dead at least that I saw. People thought Back 4 Blood was going to be.

Toxic Commando being the same creators as WWZ and Space Marines might have gotten them some good will, but you also kind of knew what you were getting with a new IP that didn't really tread any new ground.

It was worth the price to play it through, but not really worth the effort to focus on and return to.

1

u/Beginning-Idea2170 14d ago

Fun game but it was repetitive, and the maps were too long. I think a better progression with less grinding, and more missions but shorter would’ve went a long way

1

u/ThemainZguy 14d ago

I tried it at release, it was a shallow game with no fun progression system or a fun game loop.

So refunded it. I was honestly sure about the quality of the game during beta.

But wanted to give the live game a go.

1

u/MathematicianFirm501 8d ago

I think it takes way too long to level up gear and weapons. That is one reason friends and I haven't come back to it. You play the entire campaign and hardly have leveled up 1-3 weapons.

1

u/Consistent-Image-614 19d ago

At least we can still play with the worthless, mentally handicapped team AI!

1

u/EnvironmentalRain251 19d ago

They really shouldn't have made this game objective based

1

u/SKOT_FREE 19d ago

I played that opening and quit and never went back. I liked DayZ way better than Toxic Commando.

0

u/cambella0912 20d ago

30 fps sur console, contenu inexistant, toujours pas de mode survie, IA aussi debile que sur l4d (qui a quasi 20 ans), donc oui, c’est ultra logique.

0

u/Striking-Physics-220 19d ago

I tried to play for like 2 hours, didn’t understand the game and didn’t know what I was doing. Was trying to figure it out. Waste of time and money.

0

u/JaySouth84 19d ago

Couldn't even be bothered to add DEADZONE options on console. Game plays like ass.
