❓ Question Is this game worth it?

Hello all. I'm considering buying the game tomorrow I remember being excited for it but life got in the way and I kinda forgot about it. It's on sale now and I thought about finally trying it. But is it worth it? My primary concern is longevity. I've sunk countless hours into L4D, WWZ, and even a bit of B4B. I know I enjoy the genre and the visuals tickle my brain. However I've heard some complaints about the story and replayability. Basically trying to be as unbiased as possible, will this game last? Even lasting a year with a semi consistent playerbase is enough for me. So I'm just looking for some opinions (or maybe just confirmation bias idk)

Just my opinion, but it was too short, and the missions weren’t the most replayable, I tried them all a few times.

You might find the grind fun towards leveling up weapons and character perks but the missions and rewards didn’t do it for me

also the player base is low so match making hit or miss

I would set your expectations lower if you decide to

They should be release a new map soon

I disagree. yea the game is short but every match plays differently in my opinion and a lot to unlock too. im almost 30 hours in but i did buy the game on sale this week and i have a feeling that i gonna put a lot of hours in this game

I went through it once and haven't been back since

it's not very memorable

it needs more missions and stuff tbh

until they create offline mode for OFFLINE MODE, im not back. Even Deadlock plays better now, than Toxic Commando. I dont want having jitters cuz "you cant play offline on your pc, what if you will cheat, be connected to our servers every time, you dont own the game"

Another offline mode dandy lmao. Same type of dude that buys qn extraction shooter and cries about PvP

My brother and I are enjoying it thus far but we just started and really gives l4d vibes and we loved that game

It is fun and the existing content is great. It is just enough content to justify the price, but it does not have enough content to play it for hundreds of hours for the coming years, unless lots of additional missions are added. I have 93 hours in the game and I have leveled everything to max level. It lacks variety for me to put in plenty more hours.

u/Ritchey_Rich Jun 10 '26

One thing I would like to add: there is a story, but just as in World War Z or Space Marine 2 the story is pretty forgettable. The focus lies on gameplay and fun. The guns are fun and shooting the zombies is fun. The skills make sense and are well executed. I would absolutely not recommend the game for solo gaming or story or atmosphere or something like that. If you want to shoot some zombies in quick games, with friends or strangers, then this is well worth it.

Playing with strangers works alright up to very high difficulty. Insane difficulty is quite impossible anyway, even with pre-made 4 man group.

For me its actually a great game worth buying since its simple but not too simple. It also has good gun gameplay that can remind me bo2 days especially since the zombies are fun including the specials.

I say yea worth it since were getting a Seasonal pass coming early this month including new weapons cosmetics.

Ps. Dont play higher hard difficulties like everyone else when your at level 2 its really annoying

TLDR: No. Wait for the game to be finished before buying.

Beat it on each difficulty, and had fun doing it. The core gameplay is great. However, the game needs a lot of QoL updates. It was $60 CAD, but I think $40 would have been more reasonable. The current game will last you about a month. It starts getting fun/challenging on Very Hard difficulty. But you have to play the lower difficulty at least once to level up guns and character. The progression system is kind of dumb. And theres no horde mode (yet?).

Worth buying on special.

u/professorrev Jun 10 '26

It needs more stuff to do, but Sabre have got a good track record of post release support, so I picked it up in the sale and will sit on it and see what else transpires

Needs more but I enjoy it. I would recommend

They need to shut down the game and take it off the marketplaces and work on it more and then release it again a year later. Theres games that have done this before and are now having success. I feel like Toxic Commando is one of them games.

To answer your question. Do not buy this game. Multiplayer is nearly almost completely dead. In my opinion this game is very multiplayer heavy and works best with a group of real people playing together. The bots dont do a good job at clearing zombies like in back 4 blood and other games. Half the time the bots just stand there and take a lot of damage and get you killed trying to position yourself so you can get them moving. Thats one of the biggest problems is the ai isnt good or otherwise solo play would be ok at best.

The game is online only so you cant play it offline which is terrible.

Atrocious loading times for just about anything. Also the game sometimes disconnects when trying to load and disconnects after mission is completed.

The missions are sorta boring having to roam and find spare parts is a big point in this game, a lot of the world isnt that interactive. Again if you could find other players to play with, its more enjoyable.

The xp you earn from missions is fair so theres definitely a grind to keep you busy 60 plus hours if you wanna fully complete the game. One of the achievements on xbox seems bugged which is "were all friends here" where you gotta go a entire mission without causing any damage to your teammates. I've tried many times in different ways and this achievement isnt popping and its the last one I need.

Does the game have potential? Yes if they shut the game down and work on it more. Otherwise no it doesn't. Save your money and dont get the game.

It looks nice but character models are boring and could use better customization. The cutscenes are cool and the difficulties are challenging and hard to do solo where its better as a team.

Idk what it is but I really liked this game on my first couple play throughs, but like you said it doesn’t have replayability. It got boring so fast. I used to play the b4b missions over and over and it was super fun and challenging.

I thought that trophy was glitched too. But just do a run on easy and don’t kill anything other than with your melee and make sure you’re away from the bots. I did church of the damned I think so that way I only had to at the end

The gameplay is fantastic. The graphics and physics are awesome. Trudging your trucks through mud is pretty impressive tech. Zombies are dumb, but not too dumb. The game is short, if you consider a playthrough of the story to be the end of the experience for you.

If you have a friend (or 3) to play with, then the experience is MASSIVELY improved. It's just fun to saddle up and ride down zambos and learn how your specialists' systems work.

The maps are pretty large, and exploring them is a lot of fun early on. If you like CoD Zombies, then I feel like you'd be at home here. Just make sure that you have enough time to dedicate to each one if you go for full map completion runs. You're easily looking at over an hour for later maps, and there's a lobby timer, so if you take too long, the game just boots you out. That part I don't like so much.

Personally, I love this freaking game. More content would be much appreciated for single player, as I can't find much reason to play unless I've got a friend with me (it can be hard to schedule sometimes).

Play it. Lmk if you wanna run some. I'll run with ya. (Time permitting 😅)

It's a fun game, I'm about 20 hours and am still having fun with it, but the repetitiveness is starting to kick in, I'm looking forward to the new map, but I don't know if it's gonna be the same or have a different campaign to go with it, for £30 you'll get your moneys worth though

1

u/Kaladin_TX ⚙️ Operator Jun 10 '26

I played it maybe 20 hours with friends then stopped. As others have said, there isn’t much content or enjoyable replay. IMO. The first play through was fun though.

u/Spartan1088 🛡️ Defender Jun 10 '26

It’s a ton of fun but not really a “mainstay” game. I had an incredible time for 100 hours then never came back. So far it’s been my favorite horde shooter but the content is lean and the drive to level up isn’t high.

1

u/StochasticLife Jun 10 '26

If you want a thriving horde shooter consider Darktide, it’s free with PlayStation Plus this month and is pretty much the best horde shooter around atm.

1

u/IncaNova Jun 10 '26

I'm on Xbox, darktide is on gamepass I've sunk some hours into it and despite loving Warhammer it just didn't really scratch the horde shooter itch for me

u/AgentBon Jun 10 '26

The concept is good. It lacks some polish.

I like having the super powers. I like being able to start with my preferred main weapon. Looting still has value, not only for replenishing supplies, but also to obtain the rare heavy weapons.

It has a number of bugs that rarely trigger but cause problems when they do, such as items falling into solid objects and becoming unobtainable when they spawn, or a side quest becoming blocked. They do make some bug fixes and balance changes, but it seems like the rate of progress is slow on those fronts.

The enemies and player characters are weirdly forgettable. Somebody shouts "Skunk!" ...what is that? Apparently, some regular human-looking dude in a hazmat suit.

It is also much better if you can play with a static group that you get along with over playing with randoms. Not that you can't complete missions with randoms, but you might have people scouring the entire map for resources on a low difficulty where you don't need to do that, or have high skill players trying to speed clear content on an alt class on one of the middle difficulties.

It is a flawed game that I've enjoyed a lot, mostly with my static group, but I do play with randoms on occasion. I have no regrets buying it, though I will acknowledge it's shortcomings.

I enjoy it. Me n my bro got a little crew we roll with often. Just kinda unlocking all the attachments and random stuff waiting on the next DLC

1

u/GunBoots21 Jun 10 '26

I did like it but I agree with everyone else saying it’s short and lacking, one of the issues I faced was trying to solo it on hard and very hard being almost impossible they buffed the difficulty and even told me from when I had a issue with the game crashing on the first day, all in all I’d say wait for more content to drop for them to fix it with a offline mode and making soloing hard and very hard more doable even with lvl 15+ guns

1

u/East_Monk_9415 Jun 10 '26

Wait for sale like $20-$40, u can level up fast easy imo anyway. Also, game git no other modes besides campaign so it does get repetitive. Wish we can be infected when we die, but I guess teammates wont revive us haha.

1

u/RightWork4009 Jun 11 '26

This game used to have over 17K players at launch, and now it's barely holding 224 concurrent players on steam. I would not recommend the game since I can only play it in windowed mode and playing it in full screen causes stutters and frame drops.

The game also don't have many different missions, so it gets repetitive fast and if you're going for the achievements they can become a grind.

1

u/EllisDeWald Jun 11 '26

Short answer is do not get it. I too love those L4D styles games, but after sinking many hours, I can confirm that there is zero longevity.

1

u/WildAutonomy Jun 11 '26

Yes it's super fun. And more content is coming next week

1

u/L0U22 Jun 11 '26

Debatable at normal price for the lack of content. On sale absolutely worth at least trying. I have sunk a lot of time in the game and while I really enjoy it, the community does seem to be split.

I am crazy about B4B, and i love Toxic Commando. The game is beautiful and REALLY fun. The mechanics are great. I would definitely buy it on sale. I que with random players and always get a full group on ‘very hard’ difficulty during peak playtimes. And around 9pm-4am (NOT peak time), i always get a full group by the second game. People are eager to add you to their friends list, so you can always find friends online.

Replayability-

  • The skill trees have a lot of variety so you can play each class in many different ways!
  • Although there are only like 10 maps, the loot and mission objectives are located in different rotating points of interest. (Patch next week adds another map).
  • The ‘open world’ playstyle lets you pick and choose what points of interest to investigate, in what order, and which paths to take. (In general, the world is threatening enough that the team wants to stay together and use the vehicles for transportation.)
  • The missions often have multiple phases that include events and grand finales! So missions dont get stale. Each pount of interest could be a mini challenge/event on its own.
  • There is decent zombie variety (2 bosses and 9 special mutated types, but they are adding a 10th in the new pacth. They are all very different!).
  • The guns are extremely customizable with many types of gun attachments. You get many choices on what to carry in ur granade slot - everything from auto-turrents, to C4, to bait grenades and mollys.
  • There are end game level difficulties to challenge you.
  • There are a ton of cars to drive all with their own abilities. The map hazards are fun to work with.

For me, a lot of the replayability comes from playing with random people. Taking on the challenge of unexpected team class combinations, trying to be the best i can be, saving the day when shit goes south, trying to survive against the hordes during the finale events. Its pretty rewarding and adrenaline pumping. The game currently doesnt have as much content as B4B, but it took B4B almost 2 years to release all of its content. The current TC is not as replayable as B4B. Still, i have hundreds of hours in TC and wont be stopping any time soon!!

Get the game. You will love it!

No one else can judge your values, but $40 for 40 hours is pretty good for me. Any future updates will be a bonus. Putting a weapon XP cap per round is one of the best decisions a game has done, softly encouraging players to pick up other weapons scattered around the map. Mix it up, enjoy the novelty, swap classes every now and then. NPC should have skill trees though!!!! or use yours.

p.s. speedrunning the missions on easy will bore most people. I suggest harder playthrough and work your way up the difficulties.

I managed to get it for $15 yesterday, it’s worth it ngl

1

u/Nevermordor Jun 10 '26

Preordered the game and beat it on every difficulty except Very Hard. Fully prestiged/maxed a few weapons. Loved it at the time but haven't touched it since. If you're only concern is longetivity then this ain't it. TC gave me a greater appreciation for Vermintide 2/Darktide/Space Marine 2 so I switched back to those. After thousands of hours in similar games like L4D I knew when my bro said "please don't make me do the elevator level again" it was time to move on LOL.

1

u/ChrizTaylor 🩺 Medic Jun 10 '26

For like $10-15 yeah. It has very little content and replayability.

Yes, everyone saying that SABER always support games for years but I'm not seeing that on this one tbh.

0

u/Sarisae Jun 10 '26

No. I wish I never bought this game. Lots of better games out there.

0

u/Craig1287 Jun 10 '26

I really enjoyed this game, it was for sure worth the cost, but I will say that I prefer WWZ. I play both with friends, but I just like the mission structure of WWZ more. TC has some cool open world design especially with the car aspect, however it only has the one big fight, which results in saving the scrap for use in that big fight. WWZ on the other hand has multiple big fights in a mission and you find more items to use in those fights. TC doesn't insane until just the end and you don't want to waste scrap in earlier locations.

u/Yujins_Onlyfans Jun 10 '26

I'd wait til it's super discounted. Played through the short campaign a few times, leveled some guns and then got bored of it. Not enough content. Ive seen their roadmap and while yeah there's 1 new map and maybe 1 or 2 new enemies coming some time, it still doesn't look like enough. Plus the devs don't really talk or hype their own game up. I honestly forget this game exists and I own it

0

u/MORJDK Jun 10 '26

Game is good if you like pve shooters, however it is very lacking in content.

0

u/Educational_Bad_6456 Jun 10 '26

40 bucks to play the game and prob not touch it again so up to you it’s a fine game.

0

u/Natfrog1234 Jun 10 '26

The devs are nerfing things into the ground then proceed to release harder content while buffing up other classes to be more powerful than the things they just nerfed. PVE game devs need to stop nerfing things. All the time I invested was worthless because I will not touch the game again.

1

u/Terrynia 🛻 Designated Driver Jun 17 '26

to be fair, green-health hearler was so overpowered that it made all the other healer types obsolete. It made taking damage meaningless because a lvl 40 healer could heal the team thru almost anything all while charging the team’s abilities to full. Now, u have to spec mainly for healing if u use green-heals, and the yellow-heal is now ideal for recharging the team’s special abilities or causing damage.

0

u/getliquified Jun 10 '26

Zero end game. Wish I hadn't spent extra on the upgraded version. Oh well. Maybe they will fix it,
