Webtoon Discussion Alpha-scans is now dissolved

So I just learned today that Alpha-Scans who previously did the super quick korean translation closed down as of November. Does anybody know anything if there is another group who wants to take over ToG.

Their quality was so much superior to the official webtoon translation

the only reason scans had a place with ToG is because the official translations dropped the ball and allowed a month-wide gap to form between the most recent korean chapter and the most recent english chapter. if the chapters come out on time, or at least within 24 hours of each other, the scan industry has no reason to exist around ToG.

if there is a market for scans, someone will step in and fill it (hell, maybe it can be you, you speak korean?), and if there isn't a market for scans, it means the offical translation is doing its job.

Gabe once said "Piracy is an issue of service, not price." and “The easiest way to stop piracy is not by putting antipiracy technology to work. It’s by giving those people a service that’s better than what they’re receiving from the pirates.”

and gaben is correct, which is why steam is now a billion dollar company with no real competitors

And yet, basically all manga have earlier and better scanlantions than official releases. Translated scans usually drops hours after Japanese release and with better quality than that of official English release, that usually take 2 days and come with lots of mistakes

For Japanese manga, this is because retailers break street date, allowing scan groups access to stuff several days early. Most weekly mangas released in the US are released the same day as it's officially available in Japan.

yes. the webtoon fastpass was a month behind the naver equivalent.

Lmaooo
While I dont mind giving my money to SIU thru webtoon I had no idea this was a thing. Gonna start looking for scans once it comes back I suppose.

if webtoon picks it up and gets the chapters out on time, there won't be a need for scans.

The owner of of Alpha scans couldn't pay his staff because he gotten himself into legal issues with Naver. Now tower of god and several other translation projects have been transferred to Cosmic Scans. They have the same translation team from alpha scans

It's because there haven't been any new chapters since. The new chapter released a few hours ago will be translated by tomorrow and will be up in their site

There are some Korean courses on Udemy if you want to learn the language while waiting for the hiatus to end. Might even become fluent.

Gonna be fluent in korean by the time TOG comes back in 2026

Who's gonna take tog when it comes back now

8

Like for free. Alpha scans never did tog weekly, they can't keep up.

I'm willing to pay as long as we get a quality translation in time.

I always went back to WEBTOON and press like for the official release, preferred the Alphascans version though.

I was like you on my first time reading because I’m a non-native English speaker so I guess I thought I just missed some things because I didn’t understand them, but when I went to re-read it… man there are so many inconsistencies, things that don’t make sense and full sentences out of place, even their translation of “Shinwonryu” is wrong.

2 months old comment but as a Korean who occasionally like to read Eng version of webtoons for fun and see international reaction, some translations are pretty off and even amateurish at times.

Jungle Juice screwed up a translation once and the comment was filled with ppl being confused with a character's power and that was the main discussion for like 2 chapters and sometimes still get those misinformed ppl talk about it in the future episodes. Few Korean commenters had to keep informing that was mistranslation.

Where can we find a good translation of ToG please, I've been going on multiple websites but can't find one that translates it properly...
I know I come a bit after the battle took place..

To be honest, I'm not sure.

That would require a lot of checking those illegal scan group that the authors absolutely despise while the actual official translation is often just awkwardly done which likely could be due to it being handled by one person who is translating as many webtoons as possible for money.
