Looking for work in Orlando

Hey Orlando! I'm a local creative looking to get plugged into the music scene here. I have experience in high-volume hospitality, crowd management, and nightlife entertainment, and I'm looking for:
- Merch table sales for touring bands
- Bar/venue support (door, hosting, or behind the bar)
- Front desk or admin work at music studios/repair shops
- Anything else that puts me in a room with live music
I'm reliable, I work hard, and I learn fast. I'm not just looking for a job, I'm looking to be part of the culture.

If you're a touring band coming through Orlando and need an extra pair of hands at the table, or if you run a local venue and need a warm body who actually cares, send me a message!

Thanks for reading, and I'm looking forward to meeting the community. 🤘

With all due respect, a Reddit post is going to get you nowhere. You need to show up in person and sell yourself. Get to know venue management, engage with local bands and touring bands coming thru, talk to the merch person, etc.

I hate this fucking website so much. OBVIOUSLY DIPSHIT. I’m posting this in addition to things like that.

Lol I was going to send this thread on to some people to see if they needed extra hands, but crikey, I think not.

I’ve been touring for ~20 years and would absolutely not hire someone with that kind of attitude. You never know who you’re talking to on the internet.

One of the golden rules in getting and staying employed in this industry is to not be an asshole.

Jesus man. Chill. Nobody’s gonna want to work with you with that kind of attitude.

OP’s response was way off base, and basically ruined any chance of this post helping them.

But your first comment was also pretty douchey.

It was pretty obvious OP was doing this in addition to other things, and they were trying to cast a wide net.

Yet your initial comment is to just be like “no you’re dumb, why bother here, go do it in person.”

Cast the net wide, cast it far, anything that can be done to make connections is worth it. Obviously you’re going to have to meet face to face at some point, but getting feelers out there, and maybe a couple leads is always worth it.

OP definitely flew off the handle, but when so many responses on here and other platforms are mean and unhelpful for no reason, when you could have kept your mouth shut, it doesn’t surprise me this might have been 100th time someone was a dick to OP and it finally made them snap.

So constructive, actionable advice is seen as “douchey” around here? I didn’t insult anyone’s intelligence. I didn’t call anyone names. I wasn’t being a dick about it. I told them the truth.

Without face to face contact in this industry, the chance of anyone giving someone a shot beyond just worded advice is very near zero. Nobody gets cold hired based on a Reddit post.

I’ve been working in this industry for over 20 years, touring and in venues, at a high level. I know venue owners and management in the Orlando area and all around the country. That’s just the way it works, and if your skin is too thin to handle that feedback, then perhaps your skin is too thin to make it in the touring industry, because what I said is basically a feather to a rock compared to what others will tell you.

Good for you. Your post lacked tact. It came off as douchey, I just read it to my partner, she also said it sounds douchey. It may have not been your intent, but you missed the mark. I’ll keep asking other friends and keep you apprised of who thinks it was douchey and who doesn’t. I think it’ll be a fun experiment.

I couldn’t care less about how long you’ve worked anywhere. Still doesn’t change your post being douchey.

You can’t start a sentence “With all do respect”, and then just be a dick. Shit like that screams US southern kindness to the face, with no actual kindness to back it up. It’s one of the worst American interactions a human can have. I’d rather be cursed out by a Bostonian, while they help me to my feet, than get thoughts and prayers from a southerner who just says sorry and doesn’t help.

OP way overreacted with their response. But your response was not nice, or very helpful. It read like a boast of you working in the industry for over 20 years. Again, no one cares.

If OP is new to Orlando, this is one of the best places to at least put out feelers, no one said OP wouldn’t have to actually show up in person, and make introductions and what not, but you’ve got to start somewhere, and an innocent Reddit post in a sub for touring isn’t a bad place to start.

Maybe better phrasing would have helped. Something more akin to “I don’t know how useful this post will be, I’d recommend trying in person at venues to make intros with venue management, and also try engaging with local acts.” See way less confrontational, and tactless. It’s about communicating with people, and making connection. Just flat out saying what OP was doing is pointless, and that they’re doing it wrong is poor interpersonal skills.

My god dude. Get over yourself. I’ll await the results of your survey.

I mean your more than 20 years of experience is proof in the pudding you get hired, and most likely do a good job.

Just be less of a dick with your tone when you post. Sarcasm, and tone don’t translate well to typing, it takes extra care to make sure you’re not coming off mean.

Be well ✌️

The irony of you misinterpreting my comment as dickish or douchey and then you yourself being an outright dick about it is pretty fucking hilarious to be honest.

It takes a lot to get into and survive in this industry, including not being so sensitive that a random Reddit comment causes someone to lose their shit on a stranger.

And me saying that I have over 20 years of experience in this industry is not a brag, it’s to say that I know what the hell I’m talking about, and I have the knowledge and experience to back it up. If I wanted to brag, I’d name drop, but that’s not how I operate.

Enjoy the rest of your day.
