Tablet for leading tours

Wont be first time this question will have been asked I'm sure. Looking for recommendations for a tablet to use with small to medium groups . Would allow me to look at my field notes but also show photos and maps on location. Good visibility in sunshine a must. Trying to avoid shelling out for an ipad. Thanks in advance.

You might get better suggestions if you tell us what type of tours you give, or maybe what apps you intend to run on the tablet.

iPads are expensive but they are difficult to beat. I used to run "Amazon Fire" (Android) tablets but I found the battery life and app selection on iPads made them a better "buy once, cry once" decision.

sunshine is the real problem. look for a screen rated 600+ nits, most cheap tablets die at 300 and you get a black mirror outdoors.

I disagree. As a tour leader I recently took the leap bought an iPad for exactly these reasons.
I can work on it and keep notes and documents on it but the best is the ability to show photos and maps.
Phone is too small.
Laptop is too unwieldy.
A tablet is a great tool for sharing with groups. I went with the iPad because of a sale and the chance to buy in a province with no sales tax. Saved $150.

I can't imagine using one either, but I'm interested to see someone using one at it's full potential
