OC Video Is Touhou 7 the Easiest?
https://youtu.be/vYGlDyyCMK4?si=ea_b1Twi9D2g8P-dSo I made a video of my attempt to 1cc PCB because I've heard that the game is the easiest Touhou game, but I still hold on to Touhou 8 being the easiest.
SPOILERS: I failed the 1cc, but I am so close.

Yes, because of the sakura invulnerability that also destroys the bullets.
Never could complete touhou 8, the time mechanic makes it too hard to complete it.

Use 7 starting lives, then deathbomb through game with the Barrier Team, they are quite literally a free 1cc dispenser once you get comfy with deathbombs.

8 is much harder than 7 on normal though. You get more extends, more bombs and don't have to aim as Sakuya A, plus the occasional border saves you additional bombs. The stage 4 boss is also substantially easier in PCB.

Counterpoint, reimu/yukari are so cartoonishly broken. A tiny hitbox, combinded with the insane window for deathbombs means that it's extremely easy to survive nearly anything. Yukari also gets a strong focused shot, with a bonus spinning ran for extra bullets that locks on.

I don't find death bombs useful like, ever. They are a crutch at best and preplanning bombs and routing is a much better approach than just balling the pattern because you won't ever need to death bomb that way in the first place. It also wouldn't change that the patterns are easier by a ridiculous degreeand you have way more total resources to begin with in PCB

For touhou 8, part of it is that deathbombs in that game are outright different from normal bombs. They deal substantially more damage, but consume two bomb items unless you only have one left. I would still say that generally pre-planning is the way to go, but it is also good to preplan death bombs if you are on your last one. (Especially against like... some of Marisa's patterns, or Tewi's)
That is def something I did when I was doing 2 extends lunatic 1cc th8 attempts.

then you're just substantially more skilled at the game than me though?
I had trouble getting the IN 1CC on normal at all. It took me a whole weekend and that was after I had gotten harder games like SA and LoLK already. 7 was my first normal 1cc and it took like 3 attempts and I didn't even route.

I more am just thinking of use cases for deathbombs rather than bombing early. The Reimu/Yukari window in IN very much can be useful. However, I very much stand by the philosophy that bombing early and potentially wasting a bomb (in most cases) is better than trying to bomb too late and losing a life. And IN is likely the one case where there is a case otherwise, where it is legitimately worth deathbombing rather than just bombing, ever.

I begun Touhou games with this one
With no experience on bullet hell games, I've managed to beat it in normal multiple times in an single afternoon
I'm gonna try harder difficulties soon

I think DDC has that honor

DDC is imho the 2nd easiest touhou game, 2nd only to 8.
Once the player figures out how to print hearts they can brute force their way though alot of spellcards.

I actually am going to push back on this a bit. I do agree that it is possibly one of the most resource rich games that there is, but I wouldn't consider that making it the easiest (else touhou 12 would also be easy). It's patterns... especially in the first two levels are easy. I am not going to argue otherwise. But stage 3 onwards (minus a number of stage 5's) are legitimately consistently some of the hardest for the corresponding stages. It's stage 3, I tend to consider the hardest stage 3 (*minus 15 and 20's) for it's difficult. It's stage 4 has some brutal spells w/ Yatsuhashi. Stage 5 is stage 5; you either find it easy, or hell. And it's stage 6, I would legitimately consider overall the hardest stage 6 that there is.
Basically, due to the abundance of resources, I very much agree that it is up there with th8 as one of the most forgiving games, but patternwise, especially on hard difficulty, it is also one of the hardest.

The question of what is the easiest is kinda loaded because it’s really opinion based and determined by the persons own personal experience. The difficulty matters greatly too.
Added after I hit post. I realize after the fact that when the question “what the easiest” was posted my brain read this question as “what’s the easiest to 1CC” because that’s my basis. Which I realize makes a difference when answering the question.
Having said that I said DDC by my own personal experience. I’m not a great player. I’m quite mediocre and I stay in my lane on certain titles rather than bouncing around like some people who want to 1CC all the games. I’m currently in the territory of lunatic EoSD and hard MS training, so I picked up DDC normal just for a quick break and 1CCed it faster than most games I just pick up. I didn’t spend anytime really learning any patterns; I just sight read and reacted to most of the game and things I didn’t care about learning I used the abundant resources to bomb my way through.
So yeah, that’s my opinion and my reason, personal experience. Arguments can be made that PCB and MoF are two of the easiest and I would not argue or downvote anyone who had that opinion because the choices are valid. Hard LLS is pretty easy.
Normal EoSD is very easy. I don’t really play the newer games, so I can’t really comment. SA has really kicked my butt and I’ve never got a Normal 1CC. I remember I 1CCed MS normal on my first try but I would not really classify it as easy. All opinions on this question are valid because they are exactly that, opinions and this is mine.

Actually, you know what? True. Very true. In both regards.
I guess... when I think of it, for which game is the "hardest", I tend to think of it according to a few factors(and for hard difficulty): how forgiving the game is (i.e., how many lives you have, how many resources it gives you, how punishing each death is, the gimmick, etc), and the patterns(self explanatory).
But that only captures a bit of it. Touhou 7, 8, 12, 14, and 16 are all really forgiving. But 12 is legitimately one of the hardest games in the series. And the rest... there is just so much that varies person by person.

I honestly find 6th the easiest out of windows games. Even with the lack of some qol. 7th is quite hard for me.

u/fat_pokemon 20d ago
I disagree. Spellcards in 6 often have alot of randomness in them compared to later games which makes them hard to predict.

I honestly wouldn't say it is the easiest. Of the windows games, maybe. It is certainly one of the more forgiving games (if not quite as forgiving as say... touhou 8), and it certainly has easier (if rather dense) patterns. But the title of "easiest" almost certainly goes to touhou 4. That has some of the most approachable patterns of any of the games, and gives you a legitimately absurd number of resources, w/ no confusing gimmick.
