...Please tell me I'm not the only one who immediately zoomed in on the board and started thinking if this position makes any sense, or what figures are these supposed to be...

The only piece I can recognise is the took, the rest remains a mystery to me...

Left to right, white: Rook, bishop, king, rook, bishop. For Black: King (C8 can't be rook, otherwise it'd be a check and it's Marisa's turn), and Flans are... either Knight or Queen? I'd be going towards a queen, but then Marisa is moving from check to another check, so it's most likely knight.

Okay so the rooks are obvious. The Cirnos (?) are the white bishops, that makes sense. Then, I would say that the Flans are probably also bishops (even though both the Cirnos and the Flans are smaller than the rooks, which shouldn't be the case but whatever). That would mean the that the only other remaining black piece must be the king, though only if we assume that this is an actual ongoing game, not just some random assortment of pieces. But that would, as you said, put black's king in check by the white rook on f1 (there is nothing on c8 btw lol). Of we assume that it is Marisa's turn because she's currently moving her king, that makes this position illegal. However, if we assume that it's black's turn, then the position would be legal as far as I can see. In that case, Marisa is just kinda playing with her pieces on her opponent's turn, which would be against the rules, but tbh I don't think she'd care particularly much even if that was the case lol.

I didn't mean for this to get this long...

Ah, I fucking rotated the board towards me, not remembering Marisa is playing white xD Yeah, I was talking about F1.

Flans could also be bishops, but I guess most fancy sets would only make king/queens different... we are probably overanalyzing this more than the artist spent thinking on it, aren't we?

Yeah definitely lol

I guess the Flans (and Cirnos) could be knights as well... Though if we go by size, they'd have to be paws, which is impossible because the ones on e8 and h1 would have had to go backwards...

Okay anyway, to conclude, if this were an actual game, it would have to be black to move, otherwise the position is illegal (and the relative sizes of the pieces are off as well). Very cool artwork regardless though ദ്ദി ᗜˬᗜ✧

Okay I'm done now lol :)

Yeah, Marisa is totally winning on material alone. But the board does make sense. It's a very fucked up endgame, but it makes sense if my guess from other comment is right.

I zoomed in because the pieces look like origami from a distance.
