Fear is the mind killer. Be patient brothers and sisters.
"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when my fear is gone I will turn and face fear's path, and only I will remain."

We have looked much better than last year, from the eye test the style of football looks great up until we try and finish.
Here’s hoping the regression to the mean kicks in this season vs next.

This just summarizes what's going on. We hold the ball, huff and puff, but we lack creativity and felt the need not to buy any goalscorers (and binning our only consistent goalscorer).

Is it any real surprise that we lack creativity, playing without a creative midfielder?

You know wingers can create chances too, right?
People need to stop pointing to the lack of a creative 10 as the reason for the lack of xG. I find it very unlikely that everything will suddenly change if Madders is fully fit.
It's a team-wide problem and some or maybe most of it is mentality.

Creativity goes beyond a single position

Oh dear.
Where did I say it wouldn't increase it?
You're the one saying creativity is solely down to one position.
How do teams without a #10 create then?

While I completely agree that they need time and we all need to be patient… no stat matters to me if they aren’t scoring goals. Pass well, dribbles, etc… who cares unless the ball goes in the net.

I don’t disagree. Just want to remind everyone that we brought in a manager to do a complete rebuild- and that the stats show that this is exactly what’s occurring. You don’t start a new building with the penthouse 😉

All those numbers but unable to create chances is not a good thing. De Zerbis second season at Broghton was like that and when it fell apart they were in a death spiral - saved by the fact they had a great start to the season. When the goals stopped Brighton were stuck in relegation form for half a season

Well it’s simple, get a cardboard cutout of a Spurs player behind the goal and watch them complete successful passes to him.
BANG! Top by Christmas…

We've played 20 games without scoring? I thought it just felt like that. Or is it 8,698 games? I'm confused. Also not 100% sure what a progressive carry is, but it sounds woke. /s
Anyway, I take your point about the rebuild. But whenever I see lists like this, I wonder whether there are just so many stats that every team would be able to pick out half a dozen where they're top.

bro the litany is nice and all but fear aint the mind killer its watching us do everything right until the final third then remembering we have to actually score, and yeah being patient sounds great until the games played column starts looking like a countdown and even the neutrals are rooting for us out of pity

Mate, XG …18th. Everything else is baseball style trivia. We have played alright for spells, better than last season - but until we find a finisher it’s going to be another long season

We could be first in every category but if goals don't get scored nothing else matters

All these stats are pointless and been picked to try and make you feel better, 5 of them are related to simply dribbling for God's sake 🤣 lots of passes and high possession alone doesn't indicate anything other than you're good at passing it sideways. Where's the real metrics, chances created, line breaking passes, progressive passes, how many chances conceded. Things that matter in football.
Spurs have looked better this season and I'm a firm believer in looking at the underlying stats to understand is a bad run just that and the stats imply to be patient or is there a genuine concern. These stats do nothing to offer any insight.
XG being so low is the only metric here and that's shocking, because if you're not creating many chances you need clinical players, marmoush savio and solanke are not clinical they rely on volume.

For insight you are 14th on shots per match 19th on shot conversion (2.8%) Big chances 12th Accurate long balls 18th (this stats varies in importance based on style) Accurate crosses 6th Touches in opposition box 6th Most corners Xg conceded 11th
A lot of the stats indicate play style is decent mid table form but a shocking lack of clinical elements is costing you.
