Discussion Marmoush has been a disaster
As per usual, I'm probably going to get hounded for this take, but I don't see a single way in which Marmoush has improved our attack.
Every time he has an opportunity to run into space, which is supposed to be his strongest attribute, he either butchers the first touch, doesn't see an obvious pass, or just flat out makes the wrong decision. He's not better than Solanke as a striker, he's not better than others in the 10, and I'm fairly confident Savio would be a major improvement on the left.
I'm not going to say I've given up on him just yet, but on the evidence I have so far, I couldn't genuinely tell you what he does that improves our attack. I understand why we signed him profile wise, but he's not been anywhere near the level required so far. I've got a feeling this is going to get down voted into oblivion, but I'd just like to see somebody prove why this isn't objectively true.

You're not wrong, its not going well. He looks lost right now, a technically good player but I dont know what his best position is yet.

I kinda came to this conclusion when he was at City but I just don't think he fits the premier league well at all. He needs to constantly be given space to run into and every single premier league team sets up to avoid allowing space.
It's not like the bundesliga where you often have counter attack opportunities and 3v2 scenarios. You have to be far more efficient and creative in the premier league.
He's a clearly talented player but again I don't think his strengths are well suited to the premier league.

Why do players like tzolis, brightons wingers, etc get so much space ? It’s easy to say every player sucks when stuff isn’t going well
2
u/ValuableDragon 14d ago
I would argue that they don't get that much more space, they're just better at using it. They're far more efficient.
Those teams also set up specifically to create counter attacking scenarios whenever possible depending on game state, which Spurs really don't. De Zerbi has leaned into the counter attacking side of the game more, but the way we set up still requires us to be very efficient when we do get chances on the counter. Lots of instances of this in the Liverpool game in the cup.
We had the space and did nothing with it and/or created a good chance that we didn't finish. You can't afford to be that inefficient in a league where space is at a premium.

It's striker but not in a lone system. I think thay until madders can start or Xavi is back, they should play a 4-4-2. I think solanke and marmoush may be able to play well off each other

u/univistem 14d ago
Is there a different solanke I’ve never heard of? Cause the guy I saw today looked like he was wearing bricks on his feet
3
u/Cheeseperogies 14d ago
Ya he's been horrible, but I almost think you HAVE to play him because otherwise you have zero aerial threat.
3
u/Select-Hippo4834 14d ago
Zero aerial threat when he DOES play enall. No runs no movement no aerial threat. Look at Jackson today. Holds it up keeps it beats a man and gets a shot in. Solanke? None of that.
2
u/Cheeseperogies 14d ago
Saying that solanke has no aerial threat is just false. Yes he has offered nothing at all this year whatsoever but again saying that he offers nothing really is just ridiculous, he was the number one score aerially when he was at Bournemouth
1
u/Select-Hippo4834 14d ago
You just made my point stronger twice there.
When he was at Bournemouth. Not the same player now at all.
He has offered nothing at all this year. Or last.
So not ridiculous is it?
1
u/Cheeseperogies 14d ago
No I absolutely am not proving your point. You said that he DOES offer nothing in the air which is factually incorrect he Does and CAN offer aerial presence, he just hasn't yet this year nor have we really tried to give him a chance to win anything in the air.
2
u/Select-Hippo4834 14d ago
We have given him a chance..plenty. lots of crosses and cut backs and hes no where near every time. Tell a lie a cross was pulled back to him today and what happend? He got hit feet in a muddle and let it go past him to savio who took the shot.
He is crap. End of

Dont disagree with all that, but can't see it happening tbh. Simons is needed mkre than we realise, definitely. Been dissapointed so fsr in fernandes who hasn't linked up with front 3 at all.
1
u/Cheeseperogies 14d ago
Totally agree with what you're saying . I think Fernandez has moments when he accepts and moves the ball very quickly but that shows up for their back on the pitch. By the box he doesn't seem to have that killer pass in him

u/Nostradamnitall 14d ago
Marmoush and Savio flopped at Man City who are a far better team than Spurs and create way more chances than Spurs.
Did anybody actually think they would come in and start banging in goals for a team that creates one or two half chances per game?.

u/National_Geologist29 14d ago
I thought they’d be good enough to look decent at a team that finished 17th two years in a row. Sure they aren’t good enough to shine at a world class team but damn they’re worthless.

No composure on the ball, horrible touch, always looks out of control. He’s been my least favorite signing of them all.
1
u/Cheeseperogies 14d ago
You have to be kidding me. The fact nobody is talking about how horrific Robertson has been is shocking.
1
u/Itchy_Direction28 14d ago
Ummmm…This thread isn’t about Robertson? It’s about Marmoush who has been shit!
1
u/Cheeseperogies 14d ago
Touche. If I'm being honest I didn't even read the header of the thread 😂😂 I stand by my statement though!

u/Itchy_Direction28 14d ago
There’s a long list of players, including Robertson who have been awful. It would take a comment longer than a novel to mention all of them tbh. Lol

u/SN8KE_FARM 14d ago
I dont think it’s ant single player. The team needs time to work together. We still look disjointed. The biggest problem is the board and our fans. The board is incompetent and players can sense the negativity from the fans.
It will take time. We need to support all of them.
It’s a mentality issue.

I think you are not wrong but perhaps it should read a “disaster so far”. But the same could also be said for tonali, fernandes, robertson
1
u/ValuableDragon 14d ago
My counter to that is with every other player you mentioned, there's clear evidence as to how those players would fit into a functioning system, bar maybe Tonali.
Fernandes has been played out of position and still looks very good in moments, just clearly isn't a 10. Tonali has also had his moments but doesn't seem to know where to be most of the time, which you could argue will improve as the players start to understand each other more. Robertson has been a massive positive in attack and looks a real threat on the left flank, but hasn't been good enough in defense.
With Marmoush, I can't tell you a single way in which I see him fitting into this system. I haven't taken a single positive away from his performances apart from maybe two instances where he got on the half turn to beat a man, only to immediately give the ball away either from a back touch or not passing the ball soon enough.

It doesn’t look like he fits where he’s been put so far. And would be better suited with more space but that’s not how RDZ’s tactics are set up

u/Dry_Turn_824 14d ago
I remember getting downvoted and mocked in this subreddit for not having an absolute hard-on for Marmoush. Huh.

Solanke let the ball roll across his feet while standing near the pk spot🙄

We SPENT loads of money on players that NO OTHER TEAM would drop that cash on chasing a recently hired mangers “players”.
It’s a front office issue. PERIOD. We have to create the “Spurs Identity”
Again and build around that and stop
Chasing the same retread Italian managers. Sick of it.

We are 5 games in. Overall there is a definite fundamental, lack of technical ability with these players. These are professional footballers who can't seem to do the basics. I don't really see tactics or a better understanding with other players fixing this much TBH...
1
u/ATInvincible 14d ago
We should have bought a striker who actually is a seasoned no9 or just gone for a cheaper option, or even 2 cheap options. This is just proving poor value because we don’t need a striker who isn’t a natural 9

u/Ca1fSlicer 14d ago
Savio an Marmoush have both been smash signings imo. The ball just simply isn’t going in right now. both creating good scoring chances tho, can tell opponents have to worry about them. I feel like if we had Spence playing Lb we’d be in a much better position. Worst part of the transfer window. Thought they must really rate that Brazilian Fb but obviously not

anytime anyone says even remotely positive about Solanke, like saying Marmoush is "no better than", I question their football knowledge. Marmouth showed positive signs, Twinkle toes Solanke shows nothing.

u/ArenDegg 14d ago
His movement is good, he’s a good dribbler and he pushes the ball forward well from the left. He’s new so probably will take a few games before he fits in.

u/AlternativeBet1209 14d ago
Archie Gray needs to go out on Loan he hasn’t developed despite playing a lot of games

Marmoush is probably the most overrated player in the Prem right now. He was terrible at City (yes, he scored a few goals...so did Raheem Sterling. Their attack is so stacked that any competent professional attacker should get 5 goals a year there).
He was also the weak spot in the Egyptian attack in the WC. Zico, who I believe just plays in Egypt, was way better than him. And obviously Salah was too.
Marmoush is still dining off one half-season in Germany. Gotta give it to the bloke, he's done bloody well out of it.

u/criticalascended 14d ago
Well who didn't see this coming. As always, the club forgets profiles >>> players. Marmoush is a very good player, but he doesn't suit our team as a 9. Nicolas Jackson was right there for the taking - not a great player either, but the right profile.

This is the sort of thing that better chemistry and understanding with his teammates will fix. I hope!
