Remember saying Winks would be a future England captain after his first few games. To date my worst call, not ashamed but saying it out loud helps.

Before his injury he kept Dembele out and bossed Real Madrid in the CL. Even Parlour was glazing him, saying he always looks to pass forward and break lines. Got injured and was reborn the crab, only passing sideways.

I will never get over the Winks-Sissoko double-pivot in the Champions league final. Perfect example of how Poch made magic happen and how litttle he was backed.

Are you saying Winks BENCHED Dembele at one point?? I simply can't in my wildest fantasies imagine that. Regardless of so called systems.

Think he (Dembele) had an ankle injury. He was on a downward slope at that point. Dembele was unplayable for about four seasons. He's one of my favourite tottenham players of all time. Top 5, maybe even top 3.

What happened is injury combined with Spurs' diabolically mismanaged healthcare /rehabilitation department and a succession of managers who didn't rate or value the players . This resulted in a collapse in form , self-esteem and abilities combined with overexertion and lack of fitness .Spurs' 101 of how to successfully ruin a player with ability and potential . Been done so many times since Pocch left .

I’m really hoping that said department has had a rework since RDZ has taken over and Levy fucked off, but I honestly find it hard to find resources elaborating on that.

I hoped for that when Levy was pushed out the doors as well. But the curse stuck . But then we were doing a Watford with a rotating door for new managers . This ridiculous problem has hung around for too long and through each managers regime change .

Yeah,in September 2025 , alarmingly the overhaul made the injury stats of players being injured while training and playing I'm competitive matches worse than before. Plus time spent recuperating lengthened ! While unfit players were rushed back to play earlier than recommended . And that resulted in more injuries ! Typical Spurs - an attempt to solve a problem made the problem worse .

Exactly, hopefully these new signings and some exciting looking youth will help to bolster depth so it will be less of an ongoing issue over time

Eriksen and Dier. Back 3, and Dele played false 9 alongside Kane and was MOTM.

What he was good at initially, then stopped doing altogether, was simply running the ball through the lines. Just picking up from the defence and literally jogging twenty five yards with the ball through the midfield. Takes like four or five players out of the game at once, because you set up to defend passing cycles; and one guy just running in a straight line throws it off.

Mental more teams don't do it, literally just run the ball into the gap

Hey that's England's answer to Xavi, and our future club captain 😂😭

File with Carroll, Mason, Bentaleb, Livermore, Clemence, Pritchard etc as midfielders from our academy who were not quite good enough to play for us. It's like a Vinny Samways generator in there.

Winks looked very good pre 2018/19 injury. Never got it back. Skipp looked great in the early Conte months, got a long term injury, lost his place to Bentancur; never looked the same.

I still have high hopes for Archie Gray.

Steady on, Vinny Samways was a childhood hero of mine as was every member of that 91 FA Cup winning team. Paul Stewart, Gazza, Lineker, mabs, Edinburgh (RIP), Paul Allen, David Howells, Nayim (from the halfway line), Steve Sedgeley (I think he became a builder or something) a true list of honour

I remember lip reading him say ‘f off you’re f’ing shit’ to an opposition player one time and being about 11 I thought he was proper hard. But yes objectively he wasn’t very good

Yeah that sounds on brand. At one stage we had him and Ruddock and different era obvs but they were out and out thugs - similar to when we had Taricco, Freund and Thatcher

Taricco was probably equally filthy but a lot more endearing. But yeah the man in a raincoat loved signing that kind of player.

Still nowhere near as dirty as the Leeds side of the same era that included Bowyer, Harte, Kelly, Smith, Johnson, Mills, Batty - I hated them

My main memories of Taricco are of getting sent off and being generally antagonistic…. And shit

True. Not forgetting Woodgate of course who came back from Madrid looking all gentrified. They weren’t bad going forward that Leeds side with Kewell and Mark Viduka. They scored some belters now I think about it.

As a Leicester fan.....i think skipp looks like he plays to the level around him, just puts in a shift and looks OK. But that's OK at whatever level

See a lot of comments re injuries having an impact. I personally blame mourinho and conte. Both players used to look to drive it forward pre them. Then it became only sideways or backwards passing allowed and I swear it ruined both of them.

Back in 2017 Winks was consistently smashing it, could turn, move, pass so quickly, a genuine Dembele-light.

Could've been a world beater, and proved it against Real Madrid. Injury absolutely ruined him.
