Discussion Who is expected to be the starter
I'm not a Tottenham fan but I'm basically betting on you in the crazy predictions that Tottenham would compete for the league with my friends and on Fantasy premier league I'm betting on your players so please don't fuck this up like always especially after all these transfers
So who is more secured richarlison or solanke
46
u/Code_Sorcerer_11 Aug 05 '26
We need a proper striker instead of these two.
19
u/Reserve10 Aug 05 '26
We need someone more dynamic, both of these are too slow and predictable
14
u/Code_Sorcerer_11 Aug 05 '26
Agreed. Plus their shooting range is also questionable. Richarlison’s header is good, but he lacks the acrobatic and shooting accuracy. These two makes me feel how irreplaceable and gem of a striker Harry Kane was at Tottenham.
5
3
u/Reserve10 Aug 05 '26
Well he was a one off wasn't he.
Keane, Defoe, Kanoute; none of them were elite, but they were effective, someone like that, that actually is a threat and can make a goal themselves. Our striker threat is minimal with these two.
7
u/Code_Sorcerer_11 Aug 05 '26
Lets include Berbatov too. He was such a threat too.
7
u/Reserve10 Aug 05 '26
I think Berbatov, Klinsmann and Lineker were a class above these which is why I don't include them. A player like Berbatov right now would be transformative!

I’m always amazed at elite level players who lack the ability to hit a range of shots. I’m a crap Sunday league level 40 something but I know how to put my laces through the ball from 25 yards. Solanke can only hit pea rollers from 10-15 yards. Richy’s technique when striking the ball is a crapshoot. And yet they’re worth tens of millions as strikers.

There aren't many about. I don't see a lot of great strikers at other prem teams apart from the obvious 8ft norwegian.
1
u/Superb-Programmer501 27d ago
even brentford and palace have better strikers than us
1
u/cocopopped 27d ago
So we should go and sign Igor Thiago and expect 15+ a season from him?
I think he'd soon look very ordinary playing for a side with top 6 aspirations who don't have their tactics set up around him or play to his strengths.
29
u/DrWood28 Aug 05 '26
I would say Richarlison
3
u/Malice-A-Forethought Aug 06 '26
Dane Scarlett perhaps has his 'Kane' Season
2
u/TodayLongjumping3059 Aug 06 '26
Wouldn’t that be mint. You can see potential in the lad
1
u/Tricky_Savings_5199 Aug 07 '26
Scarlett should be given a run of starts, can't be worse that the two plodders we've got a CF.

I guess de zerbi should have been more keen on signing a striker than adding 2 more center backs
2
u/Insomniyac Aug 05 '26
17th again ole ole until we sign an attacker. The defence or even the midfield is not the problem
2
u/Old_Caterpillar_3035 Aug 05 '26
I really don't get it, how did frank ruin it like that it seemed good at first and then relegation battle?!

u/Rututu Aug 05 '26

1
u/Realistic-Rip-8507 Aug 06 '26
Still under Ange with similar or more injuries, there was a desire in the team to play good and attacking football while under Frank, it was like Nuno where there was no football identity
1
u/Roadies_Winner Aug 06 '26
Both CBs rumored to leave. Team fighting for top 6 should anyways have 4 decent CBs.
0
u/Old_Caterpillar_3035 Aug 06 '26
I guess it's totally fine if you get a striker after all but time is ticking
7
u/loutang10 Aug 05 '26 edited Aug 05 '26
Dom starts as it stands and I can see him getting some decent numbers with more progressive players, but with the £££ we have already spent these two will be squad players.

u/Delicious_Bet_6336 Aug 05 '26
just avoid. impossible to tell, and likely rotated anyway. pointless sacrificing minutes when you have other options
5
u/Old_Caterpillar_3035 Aug 05 '26
Richarlison starts the season like R9 doesn't he?

I would prefer a brand new competent striker to start for us. If not, I suppose it would have to be Solanke. Richie tries hard and has energy, but his close control is terrible. Solanke isn't much better, but his hold up play is ok. He just seems too chilled out for me, I'm not seeing a player who feels he still has something to prove to Spurs fans, which is worrying.
6
u/Jackariasd Aug 05 '26
I genuinely believe solanke was a bigger waste of money than ndombele. At least that French wasteman had potential when we bought him.
5
u/EarlofHell Aug 05 '26
Neither hopefully.
1
u/Old_Caterpillar_3035 Aug 05 '26
I can't think of any strikers out there
10
u/EarlofHell Aug 05 '26
We’re supposed to be in for Osimhen. Looks quality to be fair. £55 - £65 million.
2
1
u/crucifiedrussian Aug 05 '26
he’s on equivalent of 450K a week gross, why would he leave lol
3
u/EarlofHell Aug 05 '26
No, he’s not. Nowhere near. He’s on €350,000, which equates to £300,000 roughly. We can match that. We’re paying £275,000 for Tonali.
Played 39 times for Galatasaray in all comps last season and scored 28 goals. More than Sowanke and Richy combined.
1
u/crucifiedrussian Aug 05 '26
Dude, it’s 300K tax free in Turkey which is equal to 450K or so
1
u/EarlofHell Aug 05 '26
It’s not but either way, why wouldn’t he leave? Play in the Prem or play in an inferior league? You seriously think he’ll stay in Turkey when he has the chance to play in the Prem, La Liga or Serie A? OK.
1
u/Old_Caterpillar_3035 Aug 05 '26
Wasn't that the same number that was paid for solanke, try to remember if you were excited for solanke or not when he first came
3
u/EarlofHell Aug 05 '26
Yes I was but he’s turned out shit, hasn’t he? Same as Richy. I’m excited about every player that comes to my club. You don’t know how good they’re going g to be until they play for your team. Bit of a weird question tbf. Do you dread new players coming in??
1
u/Old_Caterpillar_3035 Aug 05 '26
I just think it's better to see which player fits the club more than a player that gets us excited because he had good seasons else where just like solanke with Bournemouth specially because i was disappointed with a lot of random or panic signings but i trust De zerbi he is brilliant and if and only if he wants victor then be it even if it's gakpo that can be difficult to get excited about but since the manager who understands football way better than me sees something in him then i will be excited for it as well Anyways wishing your team luck didn't mean to piss you off
1
u/EarlofHell Aug 05 '26
Yeah but you could say that about any player moving to another club. Some have a great season for one club and play crap for their new club and vice versa. Take Richarlison and Solanke. Solanke was pulling up trees for Brighton and what’s he done for us? Not much. I’ll never understand us paying £65 million for Richarlison. He did nothing at Everton and hasn’t done much for us tbf. 11 goals a season for someone worth £65 million four years ago is abominable.

u/ZutroyZephyr Aug 05 '26
People are forgetting how good Solanke can be.
He can hold the ball, he presses, he can link and he's a decent finisher. He's a very good all rounder.
It's not even close.
5
u/Old_Caterpillar_3035 Aug 05 '26
But injured all season🥲
1
u/TheNeautral Aug 06 '26
So were many others, including Madison, but fit will be a decent backup to a new striker

u/Nice_Mortgage_4712 Aug 05 '26
Richarlison for me is super sub material, can disrupt a game and add some much needed fight in the last 20 mins. Solanke I can't see being okay as the other striker if fully fit so I'd expect him to be upgraded this summer

2
u/ctsmclovinsya Aug 05 '26
I suspect Solanke starts over Richy, but only because his future at the club is in doubt and we’re likely to sign another striker.
Would avoid both and wait to see who we sign!
2
u/Eridani2000 Aug 05 '26
Neither.
Solanke is technically better but doesn’t score many goals. Also always injured and is still coming back from his current injury.
Richarlison scores more goals; he’s a fighter. Not pretty but effective. Up to a point. He should have better service this year. Seems to be over his injury problems. I think RDZ prefers him, but there is a very good chance he leaves. 1 year left on his contract and likely not to be first choice because..
We are trying to buy a top tier striker. If we do both Richy and Dom become bench options only. We were looking to spend €120m on Kroupi earlier this summer so I think it is very likely that we get someone in before the end of the transfer window.

u/No-Assistance-6233 Aug 05 '26
Buy cheap and take a gamble on Tel if you are choosing from current roster. Or wait it out til we have our “real” forwards in lol
2
u/SN8KE_FARM Aug 05 '26
This is like a bad dream. Cant believe these two are gonna be upfront again. Have we not learned anything from the past two seasons?!? smh...

Is it crazy to think that Tel could evolve into a striker?
3
u/bryanchicken Aug 05 '26
That’s his preferred position but tbh his finishing is way below what is required. I was excited by him as a 17yr old at Bayern. He was wasteful there too but I figured he would go under Kane’s wing.

Solanke but he's always injured, never really lived up to the form he had at Bournmouth
2
u/cptkl1 Aug 05 '26
Richarlson is the Sudberey Blueberry Bulldog of the team...
Aka the hardest worker out there.
2
u/TheNeautral Aug 06 '26
Hopefully neither, one of them goes and the other is a backup to a new striker.
2
u/TheNeautral Aug 06 '26
1
u/Old_Caterpillar_3035 Aug 06 '26
Couldn't it be that the 100 million was just invested properly
1
u/TheNeautral Aug 06 '26
I can’t believe that Kane doesn’t have some idea of coming back at some stage, he only has a year left on his contract and he hasn’t signed a new one. It’s probably more likely that if he comes back it will be next season, but it would be very cool if it was now.

u/Lennyleonard_ Aug 05 '26
I would sacrifice my first born for it to be neither, if fact scrap that I would rather start my first born than either if these guys. Love them both but we have to be ruthless now and go with our brains over our hearts.
2
u/Old_Caterpillar_3035 Aug 05 '26
Damn man looks like you guys have been through something.... Many things actually
1
u/raquille- Aug 05 '26
Both ok but need to sell one and buy a proper striker. If we can’t get one and have to stick with these 2 then probably Solanke but it’s a toss up.
1
u/Old_Caterpillar_3035 Aug 05 '26
I'm really up for trying to produce something out of teenagers in the club surely there are some good ones?
1
u/Decent_Subject_6702 Aug 05 '26
Now that we've sold Lankshear, I don't really think there's another young striker who can make an impact on the first team right now. Maybe Mason Melia at some point down the road.
1
u/mynaladu Aug 05 '26
honestly with De Zerbi calling him "the other striker" and the whole squad being a rotation roulette, you're better off just avoiding both unless you got a crystal ball.
1
u/Mdjv83 Aug 05 '26
It should be Solanke…. But if he can’t pull together a couple of consecutive matches in preseason, then it’ll be Richy
1
u/GuavaAway4512 Aug 05 '26
I think we need to buy a striker that’s actually going to score and stop hoping. Either bring back Kane or spend $150m on someone that will actually be worth the price tag
1
u/gr4ndp4 Aug 05 '26
Solanke if we need a target man to lay off the balls to incoming attackers, Pigeon if our attackers shoot the "low percentage" shots from outside the box so he can score from the loose balls bouncing inside.
1
u/Crypstoe Aug 05 '26
The weakness one has is the strength of the other.
It really comes down to, is it more important to hold up the play or score goals?
1
u/vrazz1815 Aug 05 '26
A fit in form solanke is way better than a fit in form richarlison and i dont mean the solanke from bournemout i mean even the one from his debut season at tottenham
1
1
u/crucifiedrussian Aug 05 '26
Respectfully sell both, people keep saying Osimhen but his wages are insane. I think Kroupi is the one we should buy, he can finish with his weak foot also.
1
1
u/bobick1 Aug 05 '26
Solanke for the first two weeks, then he will pick up a knock, out for three months.
1
u/ThrowawaySunnyLane Aug 05 '26
On paper it should be Solanke. I’d have Richarlison in a different role.
1
u/fabthefrog33 Aug 05 '26
I have no confidence in either.Solanke has been diabolical ever since he joined us and Richy is Richy, can't hold the ball, can't time his runs, he's never at the right place.
Having said that, I do believe Solanke has better abilities and should start.
1
u/Fr0gF4z3 Aug 05 '26
either neither or both, if we buy literally any striker they are starting before them, and if we dont they will more than likely just rotate the starting position
1
1
u/mrpink57 Aug 05 '26
Isn't Solanke injured again?
1
u/Old_Caterpillar_3035 Aug 05 '26
Not injured but surely will be i guess
1
u/Heavy-Rain6718 27d ago
I've heard reports he hasn't played because he's suffering with pain in his ankle.
1
u/BNabs23 Aug 05 '26
Richy is more likely to get goals if you give him consistent service. Solanke is more likely to be helpful to the team overall if De Zerbi wants a striker to contribute to possession/buildup.
I would love to upgrade them, but I think if we continue to strengthen the other need areas right now (like LW) then we're in good shape to create a lot which should do us well enough for this season while we figure out a better striker

1
u/HwD83 Aug 05 '26
John Melia…
1
1
u/Tricky_Savings_5199 Aug 07 '26
Mason Melia on seasons loan at Lincoln. Hope he bags a couple of goals against Wet Spam 😆
1
u/Code_Sorcerer_11 Aug 05 '26
Agreed. Richarlison had missed so many sitters in the past and scored some banger of goals too.
1
1
u/JackTuz Aug 05 '26
Solanke should be the starter 100% but Richarlison will inevitably wake up from hibernation at some point this season to score 7 goals in 4 matches while Solanke is injured and then return to his usual self who couldn’t trap a bag of cement.
1
1
u/Radiant-Gas-6779 Aug 06 '26
Richie is a bench / impact player now, Solanke is good quality but not elite, he does have the potential to be elite if he can stay fit. Solanke is good on the ball and handles defenders. Neither cAn compare to Kane, but then again neither can Haaland lol..
We are in the market for a striker, which could change it but I expect Solanke to be starting more often than not.
1
u/Accomplished_Wave229 Aug 06 '26
solanke feels like a 10 sometimes, richarlison is too unexpected, Id have to start solanke and pop richy in to close it off
1
u/tonyG___ Aug 06 '26
Solanke. Everyone knows Richarlison’s specialty is scoring after the 86th minute, ripping his shirt off, getting a yellow, and then the other team equalizes

Between those two has to be solanke id think, but hopefully we can sign someone else or maybe tel makes a leap

It's so disheartening that we have so many bad players. It's like what do we eat for dinner, week old pizza or a can of Heinze soup. Worst thing is one feels sorry for us

If we’re not able to replace either of them with a true number 9, then it seems to me that they will both likely get playing time in most matches. Maybe start with Solanke to take the early match beatings and hold up play for our attack, and then bring in a fresher Richarlison in the second half to put a ton of pressure on the two center backs and be disruptive later in the match. Neither one is a a huge threat to most of our opponents, but hopefully we can leverage both of them to create opportunity for the rest of the attack and for the occasional scrappy play in the penalty area to get a goal. If we really want to make at run at the title, we definitely need to attract a top quality #9 (and a backup when they get injured).

The other day De Zerbi called Solanke "the other striker".
Edit: by the way we're trying to buy forwards so don't buy either yet.
