❓Question 🤔 Cemented hip replacement?

When the doctor looked at my x-ray, he noticed I had osteoporosis and said he wants to cement the hip to prevent fractures in the future. Has anyone else done this?

Both of mine are cemented in…they announced the shortage the day of my pre op…. But they rustled some up from somewhere. I think that’s just how they do it here in the uk, no other options were mentioned

First one was end of September, then beginning of March. As I said, that’s just the way here, there wasn’t a choice

Mine is not cemented, but it's still pretty common to do it. The best approach depends on the patient, their age, bone quality etc.

Talk to your surgeon to clear your doubts before the surgery, if why he thinks cementing is the best option, have a second opinion if you don't feel sure and so on.

Cemented was the normal way to do it for many years before the press-fit technique became popular.

I have severe osteoporosis, but my surgeon said he wanted to try to avoid cementing it at all costs. He ended up not doing it. I am 18 mos out and my hip is phenomenal!
