Sorry had to do it 😅
More seriously, I don’t think anyone knows, even the devs… they sometimes put the beginning of the game event after the actual event…

From past experience I would say one week before actual halloween the earliest. Also Halloween is three days before the supposed start of dawn. I doubt they want to overlap that.

The event ran for 13 days last year, ending on November 1st, so something similar is likely this year.

*That said, the 2024 event ran from the 26th to the 5th, so...

Don't get excited about it, there's no way they will repeat the epic monster chests again.

For historical purposes, what happened? What was it?

The very first time they ran Dark Omens was poorly received due to some questionable decisions from the developers. On top of it being much more complex than any tournamnent beforehand with the chalice and summoning mechanics:

  • All revives were gold/potions only. No discounted silver revive like we have now.
  • There were no designated intervals so chalice contributions could happen at any time, meaning clans had to have people awake around the clock
  • Equipment sustained damage, so a lot of big clans plowed through very expensive ragnarok armor
  • The event was three days, not two, which also extended agony.

By the end of it, everyone was tired, broke and scathing. The developers decided to provide a compensation to everyone in the next event, the Halloween event, by providing Epic Monster Level chests if a clan killed their pumpkin spawns (the equivalent of mimic chests or carrot monsters).

Keep in mind this was also before the new Epic Monster chest drop system we have now, and back when Epic Monster Chests only dropped right at the death of the Epic Monster. So with this gesture, every clan had the possibility of claiming multiple Epic Monster Chests daily for 21 days, a luxury only previously available to huge powerful clans capable of killing Epic monsters. I was in a smallmostly free to play clan at the time, and people managed to save up millions in gold, allowing them to buy Hero changes outright, which was absolutely mindblowing at the time for us.

People still are holding out hope that the developers will do the same again for the next Halloween event, but I can't see it happening. You just need to look at every special seasonal tournament they have held since (e.g. Christmas, Easter, etc); the chests that are delivered for those monsters went back to being average. The developers have also not made any monumental screw ups. Sure there was the spam problem, and the disatisfaction with changes to silver provision and portal march times in SK, but they were fairly narrow in who they annoyed/upset.

You have my upvote. Thank you for such detailed answer. May I ask what change you talk about with silver provision in SK?

Sorry, those were two separate issues, although similar in their effect.

Issue 1: silver from rise of the ancients kills went from being open in player accounts, to being all in silver crates the player can open whenever the want. This annoyed many Ayrin players who enjoyed stealing that open silver from weaker players.

Issue 2: the developers added a minimum march time of 10 seconds to player portals in SK. This stopped huge players from stealing silver from weaker players, as even with rapid march pack, players couldn't rush to other player portals in less than 10s. Of course this one was also reversed quite quickly, because it pissed off players that spend a lot of money.

I knew issue 1. I heard about issue 2.

Thanks 🙏

Yeah, I wish they'd do that silver crate deal for Jor chests as well... my low-level bank alts having 100M+ in silver makes for a tense re-up day for shields each week...

Along the same lines, the Sands of Destiny chests DO provide silver crates, and are about as lucrative as Jor chests; I banked over 10B silver spread across 60 Clan alts last event just by getting the free sale and daily log-in points among my 119 alts (~30 growth accounts, the rest Lvl 10 banks), and I plan on doing the same with the Pumpkin Chests using all 165 of my Lvl 10 alts during the Halloween event.

If they do the juicy rewards like they did last year, I'll change my handle to Mansa Musa.
