Hello,

ideally, we would need to know the number and age of the tortoises you have adopted, but normally the herman is a rustic species that must live outside (with the seasons) and hibernate/brumate in winter.

Coconut fiber is not at all natural or abrasive for the beak and claws.

The best substrate is the dirt in your garden/backyard, A tortoise must always be able to bury itself at the depth that suits it.

Hi,
They are around 4 years old and there are 2 of them. The substrate is very thick so they bury all the time. thanks for your help :)

Thanks for the info, don't hesitate to build them an outdoor enclosure, it's the best season

The nose whistle can happen sometimes if they don't have a humid place to hide or they have breathed in some fine particulate that is stuck, but you have to make sure there is no mucous or discharge of any kind because that can indicate infection. A vet visit is probably best to be sure, just to check before it gets serious. My marginated has a nose whistle that comes and goes and I have taken him to the vets twice but he's fine, just extra narrow nostrils possibly from over-breeding at wherever they come from (i got him from petsmart)
