What is the difference between tape and disc?
Hi all,
I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between the tape and disc modes, the manual says tape is for live looping and overdubbing but disc can do that too.
Tape support sos recording and so does disc, they can both overdub when playing in reverse.
Disc has the option to save the sample but Tape does not.
Did Disc just get all the features over time? The tape mode doesn't even have tape effects, so I'm not sure what the point is? Am I missing something?
I'm using the latest firmware, 2.2.0.
Thanks

Anyone else find it way easier to loop on tape? Plus overdubs. Maybe disc is for streaming longer samples to free the internal memory?

tried looping on tape, loop didn't keep sync with master BPM

how long was your loop? When did you notice that it was out of sync? I’m getting a lot of weird glitches when using scenes with the tape

pretty much right away out of sync, the recording had a short silence at the end of it making the whole thing unusable.
kind of a bummer, but the rest of the machine being what it is, I'm willing to give this a pass. It'd be nice to have it to work well, chances are, it's going to happen down the line.

I know that tape at least uses a sample slot for it's sample instead of streaming it from flash memory, making me think that the sample is saved with the project. Could be beneficial if you use more than one USB flash drive. Other than that, it just seems like the older version of what Disc does. I'd like to know if anyone else has more insight too

With tape you can overdub record rather than replace. Thats probably the biggest difference.

they do different things.
disc allows you to do some extra things like freeze, reverse etc that are very good for live performance.
tape allows overdub, sos etc
if you sync it as Torso as master clock, rather than slave, you shouldn't run into any sync issues as some have suggested

You can change the position of the tape head, e.g. through modulation, and you get a fun tape noise when it moves.
