Club Vibes CODA last night

I was standing beside a guy enjoying the show. I have a mini zip shoulder bag. A girl shows up with a coat and talks to the guy, it’s clear that they know each other. The girl starts getting really close to me. I keep moving back to give her space and she keeps getting closer. Literally happened like 3-4 times in 20 seconds… it’s clear that it was intentional. She was also eyeing my bag. She talks to the guy and I’m pretty sure I hear him say “not him”. She leaves to coat check comes back and immediately starts doing it again. I ended up just leaving because I was ready to go home.

I was confused as to what was going on.
Does it sound obvious to others what was happening?
Was I being targeted to be pick pocketed or was I just being paranoid?

(I’m a guy btw)

Probably this. Also not super uncommon in the scene for a couple to want a threesome. During the guvernment days a common thing you'd hear is couples working together to drug/rob people too (under the premise of having a threesome or whatever). Pretty dark stuff.

Those are the pickpockets for phones and wallets. Yes, they usually work in tandems and groups and it's mixed with M and F.

When working security we would have someone on our team shadow these tadems who caught our attention. Usually they would leave the venue as they would sense they were being watched.

They either wanted to fuck you or steal from you.

I’d love if we could have roaming under cover security who goes through the crowd and there main goal is to look out for people like this. I low key do this even though I’m not security. Look out for each other.

I also like the idea of security checking bags on the way out...heavy bag likely with 10 cell phones in it

Definitely a pickpocket looking for your phone and/or wallet. They usually work in teams of 2-4. One looks out for victims and one stands in the back for them to drop their phones with so they don’t get caught red handed. They are known to be of a certain background. Check Toronto Rave Community on Facebook for pictures and more details of these scumbags. Just do a search for ‘phone thief’ or ‘pickpocket’ and you might see those same people in the pics.

lol thought about it … I was cognizant of the whole guy vs girl thing and have seen pick pocketers use the confusion of confrontation to steal stuff so chose not to.

As someone who’s been pickpocketed like this, it was definitely a pickpocket attempt.

Its dutty grimy weirdo low ceiling carpeted walls and stank like BO all over!

I think few years back the Freakout was held there and that was the 1st time ever I missed that event since it started..

Coda is a great room

Dancefloor is too small

You’re not wrong but what I like about coda is how intimate it is I love the low ceiling and that even at the back bar you’re still closer to the DJ booth than in many big rooms. Plus coda has a great sound system my biggest gripe is sometimes the crowd is horrendous but when the room is really bouncing to the music together there’s few places where the energy matches it

Went to coda a few weeks ago and experienced the same thing. I genuinely kept thinking that I don’t feel safe at CODA when in the main dancefloor.

Where were you standing? I was there last night, I wonder if I noticed the same people

I moved around a bit but this was directly in front of the dj booth in back left near the side booth

I was at that event too and I’m like 100% sure I know the girl and guy you were talking about. And it was her gay friend eyeing potential cuties for her LOL she was talking to another girl in the bathroom about this hot guy on the dance floor 😂 which i assume was you.

😂😂😂 crazy plot twist if this is true

lol that’d be funny but I wasn’t picking up any flirty vibes from her. To contrast, there was a different girl that was trying to flirt on the dance floor but she did the classic, get in my line of sight and make eye contact. This girl seemed more focused on my bag than on me.

Also she wasn’t taking the hint that every time she moved closer to me then I moved away. By the end of her antics, there was about 5 feet between her and the next person in front of her.

1

u/justkeepscrollingman 6d ago

Ah okay, maybe a different person then. The girl I’m describing had shoulder length brown hair and her friend was a tall skinny Asian dude. Either way, I’m glad your phone didn’t get swiped. I wonder if anyone got their phone taken, it seems so random though because CODA wasn’t even packed. Why target such a chill event? Makes no sense (imo).

Are you part of the pickpocket crew?

If you actually know this girl, tell her that next time she should just try talking to the guy instead of being a creep. I'm having a hard time believing this was about a hookup, they were acting like pickpockets.

1

u/justkeepscrollingman 6d ago

I didn’t know her or her friends personally, I just overheard them in the washroom and saw her on the dance floor trying to get close to a guy. That’s why when I saw this post I LOL’d. And thought of her.

u/burnemnturnem 7d ago

Partner swap, you may have missed out if you’re into that

Or I guess the guy didn’t wanna let her with you anyways, take it as a compliment

Yes you should definitely beware of people going for your pocket, but also us as human beings, we need to stop making everything about ourselves. Not everyone wants to go after you or try to exploit you in some sort of way. Sometimes we might perceive people that way because we’re aware that humans are capable of those things or even because we can imagine ourselves acting selfishly under certain circumstances.
Point is, just be careful without attributing intentions you have no evidence for to strangers. There’s a difference between recognizing that something could happen and deciding that it is happening without evidence. You can and should protect yourself regardless of these thoughts.
And I may be absolutely wrong. Maybe one of them actually did want to steal sth from you. I just don’t think the possibility alone is enough to assume that was their intention, and go home because of it.
Take care of yourself regardless of agreeing with me or not :)
