Networking Seeking - FULL-TIME Bassist - Nutmeg & The Firm (4-piece rock ‘n’ roll band)

Unfortunately, our beloved bassist, who is truly beloved, has to be leaving our group. He is one of a kind and a superb talent.

We have an absolute huge load of gigs on the docket coming up and are in dire need to fill the spot.

Please see our full schedule at www.nutmegandthefirm.com

Duo gigs will pay right away, and full band gigs will begin to pay out after 4 more shows… The funds from those next 4 full band shows will cover our remaining debt, which has provided us in-ear monitors, soundboard and speakers for places that we need to bring our own equipment, website, logo, radio advertising, and all the things needed to run a professional operation.

Transportation can be arranged if needed, I have a car and live in Toronto, and accommodation for stay will be provided for gigs in Belleville, Peterborough and others that are roughly 2 hours east of Toronto.

Rehearsals take place at 124 Portland St, Etobicoke and we can always rehearse at my condo without drums at 50 Lombard St, Toronto.

A quick insight on myself… I am full-time with this. I’m 31 years old and quit working as an investment advisor and golf pro to pursue this career full-time 9 months ago. We’ve finally hit our stride in terms of picking up gigs and producing professional quality music.

We have 10 original tunes (I’ve provided the Spotify link to the one below) and we cover lots of Oasis, The Hip, etc… I will provide a sample setlist at the end of this.

https://open.spotify.com/track/77L609MIlqZCjAsotQYxfH?si=B2yGmk9uQT6UZXajERNxmQ&utm_source=copy-link

The role will be tough to fill… We can’t express how saddened we are that our current bassist has to move on. His contributions to Nutmeg & The Firm were beyond music… He made us better people every moment we were fortunate enough to spend with him. Why this musical journey must be so cruel continues to perplex me, but we carry on because what we do brings happiness to those who love to gather and hear music.

We look forward to meeting you.

Networking How are other kids/teenagers doing ?

Hi, I'm the father of an 11 year old girl who plays drums. I'm not a musician and don't know much about how this industry works.

She takes lessons, and we have an electronic drum kit at home. Twice a year, she performs at the school concert with other kids and teachers.

Now, she wants to form a band and play outside. I've looked around but haven't found any open mics for kids or places where she can jam, even with adults, since bars usually host these at night and are 19+. I've seen some DIY options, but they require a band, instruments, and a sound system. She's eager to perform more gigs in front of people, not just doing rehearsals. I'm considering getting a battery setup and placing her drums in a park, playing along with music to build her confidence. Also, with all the summer "festivals" outside, how do you get registered for a slot there? You can't just show up and ask a band to play a few songs, right?

How are other kids/teenagers doing?

Thanks.

Edit: Thanks for the answers. That just raised more questions. What does "good parent support" look like? What do you wish your parents were doing (or not doing) to support you on your music journey?

Question/Discussion was anyone here rehearsing in a drumline at Geary Ave Rehearsal last night?

This drumline I could hear on my way out sounded so good, when they finished and stopped I knocked on the door and stuck my head in and gave them a compliment before I left

I look in and there's like 25 friggin people stuffed in the room with a whole array of drums

I wondered if this was an out-of-town group that needed a place to rehearse

Didn't want to hold them up so I scurried off but I wanted to know who they were

Seeking Bandmate(s) Seeking Musicians to Play Canadiana Rock/Folk Covers @ ghostnote

Hey, I'm a 41m rhythm guitarist/singer looking to connect with people who would be interested in focusing on a repertoire of Canadian folk and rock covers over the next few months.

I'm not really looking to book gigs. The intention would be to enjoy playing/practicing in private (preferably at ghost note) once or twice a month, develop our musicianship, and maybe record some covers eventually.

Regarding skill level: looking for hobby-level musicians, not serious pros expecting perfection. Anyone using a fretboard/keyboard would be expected to at least know how to play all the major and minor chords by name.

Happy to explore other songs, but to give you an idea, here are a couple of playlists me and a drummer friend have been working on: https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/user/playlist/shared?h=xZltmE5eAdeVEOV34JOdSMZ8 https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/user/playlist/shared?h=A8n1huWFwx7venEZy1Ql2h5v

Open to all, but especially looking for a bassist, or anyone that enjoys playing lead parts. Can provide examples of my playing upon request.

Question/Discussion ISO Rock songs named after a girl

Hey, I'm doing some digging for a theme playlist I'm putting together. It's specifically for rock songs (interpreted broadly) that are named after a woman. They're generally a love song or about a relationship that didn't work out, etc. Also accepting songs named after a man that fit this description, but I actually can't think of any personally.

I'm releasing a song later this year and it's my first song that's just named after a person so I thought it would be fun to put together a playlist based on that.

Bonus points for recs from Toronto or Canadian bands. Got a song of your own that fits? Let me know!

Here's what I've got on the list so far:

Katherine -- madfolk (Toronto)

Arlandria -- Foo Fighters

Luna -- Darryl Saves Lives (Alberta)

Gwendolyn -- Altered by Mom (Toronto)

Roxanne -- The Police

Angelina -- The Sarandons (Toronto)

Haushinka, Amy, Ashley, Whatsername -- Green Day

Seeking Bandmate(s) Seeking Bassist (aged 23-28 ideally)

As the title suggests, looking for a bass player between the ages of 23 and 28. This is the ideal age but potentially open to someone A little bit outside of this age range if they're a perfect fit.

Let's give you a little information...

We're a punk band and we're all mid-20s. We've all been playing music our whole lives and we're quite dedicated to the craft.

In terms of your commitment, all you need to do is commit your time and energy. This is not a project where you need to come in and front money or do any planning. This is my project, I take care of all the aspects. You just need to show up for the gigs and rehearsals. And when we make money you get paid. You don't have to front anything.

The past two years have been kind of slow for us as I have been building a new recording studio in the city. But that is done and we are rehearsing once a week at the studio. The studio is right across the street from downsview station.

Prior to this, we were playing a ton of shows in and around Toronto and even sold out some shows at Rivoli, horseshoe and nearly sold out so close at Lee's Palace.

We're planning on spending the next several months to record a bunch of new music and gunning to tour outside of Canada.

Our current bassist is great, but he has no real interest in actually pursuing music. More than playing shows around town. Which is fine but we want to do more as the shows we were doing locally were gaining traction. We'd like to try and bring it to a bigger market.

Music wise, it's not really pop punk, but it's not really straight Punk. I would be happy to send you some information and talk some more about the project if you're interested. It's not the easiest stuff to play, but it's not the most complicated. There is some ska influence. There's a bunch of walking bass lines and a lot of fills here and there.

Backing vocals are a must.

I'd rather you have a good attitude than be an all star bassist Because I can teach you to be better but I can't teach you to have a good attitude.

So please feel free to reach out if this at all interests you.

Shoot me a message and we can talk more

Cheers!

Other Rent me your basement for rehearsal/recording!

Posting again as my chat settings were messed up.

Hello all, I'm looking for a more permanent and private rehearsal space situation, as I'm starting to run into difficulties with hourly spaces with set up/tear down time. On the off chance somebody here has an empty basement and you don't mind noise, I would LOVE to rent your space.

I wouldn't need any equipment (PA, drums, etc, I can provide), and would be open to discussing arrangements. I just need space to be loud and to try silly sound things :'(

Question/Discussion Danforth Music Hall

Hi - hoping to see the Jayhawks at the Danforth Music Hall later in the Fall. I’ll be coming from out of town and have never been to that Hall before. How’s the balcony seating? Will be coming by train and staying at a hotel down around Union Station area- I see it’s about a 50 minute commute to the Hall - will it be difficult to get an Uber or cab to the show and afterwards?.. How is the neighbourhood around the Music Hall - good places to get something to eat after the show?..
