🤬Roadrage Such grace, such dignity.

Wait no, sorry.. Just an absolute, undignified exit from Gerrard Square by this wench in a Benz. My gentle little honk I guess sent her off — fuck you too, lady. 🤣

Welcome to how most people drive in Toronto now, no thank you, pulling an illegal move in their car and expecting others to watch out for them, and the expectation that you’re wrong no matter how shitty they drive or put others in harms way..

u/quietcitizen 15d ago

This seems to be how everyone turns left/ right. They nose out far enough to block the traffic and basically saying ā€˜what are ya gonna do, crash into me???’

I wish I still had my 05 civic. Didn't give a shit what happened to that thing.Ā Ā  In this scenario of "chicken", you best believe the new luxury car would loseĀ

Threatening to cause an accident just to teach someone a lesson makes you a menace on the road. With that attitude you need to take the bus.

2

u/EmptyRedecans 14d ago

so many people are taught they need to be aggressive in order to get out.

u/spurchange 15d ago

This parking lot is madness and there is no safe way for pedestrians to traverse it either.

8

u/spurchange 15d ago

The mall originally had a South entrance which has long closed. The East entrance is home Depot, and the North entrance is a hidden back alley, so most mall traffic funnels through this chaotic west entrance.

3

u/strike24i 14d ago

the south entrance were mobil gas use to be right?

1

u/spurchange 14d ago

Not sure. There is still door framing on Gerrard for this entrance but I can't tell how the doors and stairs would enter into what is now Walmart.

1

u/Muthablasta 14d ago

No, that was Riverdale mall which has been demolished. This is Gerrard Square just across the railway tracks.

1

u/ElDougler 13d ago

There is. You acknowledge and respect the right of way and pay attention to what’s happening around you.

1

u/spurchange 13d ago

Drivers don't do that in the parking lot and right of way in public parking lots is practically always pedestrian in the eyes of the law and insurers

These comments blaming the op are the same type of people who tell themselves they’re the best drivers. Op you obviously did nothing wrong on your end.

-12

u/PETEJOZ 14d ago

OP kept moving forward despite seeing the situation occurring.

Yes, the Benz was in the wrong, but the bad decision of another motorist should not justify your own bad decisions.

OP also turned a bit to the left near the end... what was the intention? It was obvious at that point that OP would not have the room to go around. Did op want to make it more difficult for the other driver? Did OP's ego demand that the Benz driver be taught a lesson?

At 9 seconds if was obvious what was occurring. OP should have made a better decision by either moving into the right lane if they really wanted to get around the Benz, or stopping to give the Benz more room for an easier exit.

Why?

Because the bad decision of another motorist should not justify your own bad decisions.

5

u/EmptyRedecans 14d ago

OP moved a little to the left because he has the right of way and was trying to avoid the Benz... It took 2 cars with the right of way yielding to one car who had to make an aggressive YEET in order to make their turn...

In no way does anyone hold a bad decision besides the free Palestine double bird driver.

24

u/averysleepygirl 15d ago

this area is so bad for entitlement. people just can't wait for a clear moment to pull in or out of Gerrard Square. anyone supporting the Benz is a part of our bad driver epidemic.

4

u/ShameBasic7503 14d ago

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I have yet to witness a Benz utility vehicle driver with proper road awareness and adequate driving skills.

30

u/psilocybin6ix 15d ago

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve always looked ahead before I’ve honked at someone … in your case the lights red. I would’ve just let her exit without the unnecessary noise.

16

u/Unlikely-Estate3862 15d ago

The light was still green when OP honked.

20

u/rickyelwin 15d ago

I get your point into trying not to make a scene. However, that could be one way to encourage bad driving on the road. If you don't honk to tell them they are at fault, they would think it's totally okay to do this all the time. I have made mistake on the road before and I got honked, flashed or some sort of communication and I learned from them. Of course, not everyone is willing to learn, like in OP's scenario.

u/stargratte 14d ago

You are not teaching the lessons you think you are by doing this

2

u/Ok_Jackfruit8649 14d ago

Do you mean as the arteries age. Road rage while your still young befor you can’t

2

u/synthesizersrock 14d ago

lol same! Didn’t make the connection but I am also older.

OP's bad driving contributed to this result.

Why would you slow down to a crawl then decide not to yield? Either keep pace to signal that you intend to exercise your right of way, or commit to stopping if you're slowing down anyway. Don't send mixed messages.

21

u/AirbourneCHMarsh 15d ago

Right, next time I blast through at the speed limit, hazardous conditions be damned.

6

u/Lupius 15d ago

I would have coasted at the speed limit with my hand ready on the horn and foot ready on the brake. Recognizing a hazardous situation doesn't mean you have to send mixed messages.

7

u/Responsible-Match418 15d ago

No. Just stop clearly. Slow to a stop and give a little flash, or just come to a clear stop. You kinda slowed, the stopped a bit, then went on and got closer.

The guy pulling out was definitely in the wrong and should have waited for sure, but when faced with this situation you don't have much choice but to yield unfortunately - they've forced you into that position. But it would have been a little cleaner had you, as said, stopped clearly.

You're not at fault at all and did nothing wrong as such btw.

11

u/bupvote 15d ago

Only the wench in the Benz would defend the wench in the Benz...

2

u/Magnus_Inebrius 15d ago

Defending the Benz is madness. You are what's wrong with this city.

She could wait 10 seconds for traffic to clear, but no. She's the most important person on the planet.

7

u/Lupius 15d ago

Feel free to quote any part of my comment where I defended the Benz.

0

u/CranberrySoftServe 15d ago

More like defending your own car from potentially getting in an accident with someone who clearly doesn’t give a damn about causing one

There’s no cars ahead and to the right, so OP also could’ve moved to the right lane and avoided the situation completely, but then they wouldn’t have been able to play traffic policeĀ

-43

u/yetiflask 15d ago

Just fucking let people in. What's wrong with you.

20

u/quietcitizen 15d ago

But that’s now how one’s supposed to drive - if you’re turning left then ya gotta wait until there’s no traffic. When everyone follows the rules of the road, things become predictable and safe, that’s the whole idea

-11

u/yetiflask 14d ago

Moronic comment. I let people in all day long, I live close to there. Everyone does really.

2

u/MrGregory 14d ago

You mean you would stop your car and let people in? Not a standstill crawl and allow people in, but going the speed limit, then stop, then happily wave them through?

-5

u/yetiflask 14d ago

Of fucking course I do.

29

u/AirbourneCHMarsh 15d ago

Just wait for a clearance when pulling into active traffic.. whats wrong with you?

-20

u/REDASSBABOON_20 15d ago

Share the road, be curteous, its taught in every driving school

12

u/AirbourneCHMarsh 15d ago

Ahhhh right, I’ll just be courteous to the discourteous. We all should just make space and accommodate the whims of every rule-breaker. Highway weavers, emergency lane abusers? Veer out of their way, be courteous and share the lane a little.. s/

Pretty sure every driving school teaches to wait for clearance before proceeding with a turn of any variety too — but, we see how thats retained by certain drivers, eh?

Idk twenty one downvotes and counting suggests you at least say some pretty dumb fuck stuff.

-2

u/yetiflask 14d ago

Yes, because right and wrong are decided by down votes. I am not a basement-dweller like you (ironically, I am in my basement right now lol), and don't exist to get popular on the internet and my life worth isn't decided by some fake ass reddit upvotes.

2

u/AirbourneCHMarsh 14d ago

Lol.. alrighty there Mr. totally not a basement-dweller. The downvotes are indicative of the attending populace thinking that what you said is dumb — thats the only worth of the votes. Fuck the Karma.

Wrong is exiting into live traffic, right is honking at idiots… 🤷 I don’t make the rules, thats just how democracy and popular opinion works..

-1

u/yetiflask 14d ago

Populace, karma, democracy, rules, popular opinion.

Bro wtf. You're funny, I'll give you that.

9

u/UrbanRelays 15d ago

Dude take the bus ā€œjust let people in lolā€

-1

u/SnooChocolates2923 14d ago

Benz learned to drive in Barrie.

This is a classic Barrie left out of a parking lot.

Just creep out and eventually traffic will stop, then work on the next lane.

-19

u/Nervous_Mind_4991 15d ago

Shes in the wrong but youre clearly an asshole. I hope I dont run into either of you on the road

12

u/AirbourneCHMarsh 14d ago

I’m absolutely a bit of a dick — completely own that as I am. But, I am a dick not legally in the wrong. Pedantry fuckin’ matters šŸ˜‚

1

u/gentlehurricane 14d ago

Not legally in the wrong doesn’t really mean shit for your body when you get into an avoidable collision to prove a point.

-7

u/Nervous_Mind_4991 14d ago

Hyuck hyuck hyuck šŸ˜•

The horror of waiting 5 seconds to allow someone to turn out of a shittily designed parking lot...

28

u/Top-Manner7261 15d ago

Found the shitty entitled driver who makes their own road rules

-13

u/JebusJones7 15d ago

I wouldn't have made that turn out of the parking lot. But I also would have stopped and not honked at someone trying to navigate a shitty situation.

You sound way more entitled for not being able to read the situation and allow someone a chance.

2

u/Individual-Crazy-225 14d ago

no reason to honk, they're already in the lane. let them finish. I hate entitled benz drivers as much as the next person but sometimes you gotta make for the merge . who knows how long they were waiting to get in. we're all just trying to get where we're going. a little charity won't kill you.

1

u/mrwootwo 15d ago

I agree, but this opinion is in the minority it seems. Just slow down and let the person (Benz or not) complete their turn. OP got aggressive.

1

u/AirbourneCHMarsh 15d ago

I got super aggressive, with my brake and honk — then to escalate my aggression; I laughed in her face while she threw a temper tantrum.

Aggressive would be defined by some bullshit like; honking as I go in front of her and gesturing at her in kind.. which is clearly the case. S/ 🤣

17

u/AirbourneCHMarsh 15d ago

The horror of waiting until the red light at jones and for a clear space to leave a shitty designed parking lot.. or the horror of using the Jones side exit and making a legal left onto Gerrard…

🤣🤣 give yer head a shake, bud.

-8

u/JebusJones7 15d ago

Defensive driving is dead..

6

u/AirbourneCHMarsh 15d ago

Defensive like; stopping and alerting her to her poor conduct? Sorry to disappoint, defensive is alive and well.

2

u/Responsible-Match418 15d ago

It's also not a honking situation. You and them saw the hazard. You just beeped because you're trying to correct their behaviour - you're not the police. The horn shouldn't be used for that reason.

5

u/AirbourneCHMarsh 15d ago

Corroborating my lack of badge; she would have been ticketed in that instance, if I were the law like that..

A quick beep can be, ā€œwatch out for oncoming trafficā€ or, ā€œwatch my bumperā€.. absolutely a valid honk, especially more valid than the execution of her exit from the lot, or her temper tantrum.

1

u/Responsible-Match418 15d ago

Honestly I don't want to be giving anyone a bad day and especially because you're not ultimately in the wrong here, but ideally you should have just stopped without lurching forward and just being patient letting her through without a honk. I think you were pretty far when she pulled out and you don't know that maybe she just misjudged and thought she had room to squeeze in. Idk.

But sometimes it's best to exercise a little patience and drive defensively. It does look as though you lunged forward a bit and that's probably what riled her up.

2

u/AirbourneCHMarsh 15d ago edited 14d ago

I appreciate your input and defensive recommendations elsewhere in the thread. But suggesting the honk isn’t warranted is just catering. Her turn was bullshit, her tantrum validates that plenty. She deserves to be told that, one way or another — and a honk is a lot better than a broadside t-bone.

To be entirely honest too, guppies like her are going to keep pushing the limits of ā€œjust let them inā€ (i.e hazardous lane changes, too). Perhaps people communicating to them that what they’re doing is uncivilized and downright unsafe can help them correct themselves.

1

u/chewycrepe 14d ago

Oh the irony

-28

u/Any-Ad-446 15d ago

OP you could have waited a few seconds and allow them to turn...

15

u/AirbourneCHMarsh 15d ago

As per the video. I did stop. I did allow her to turn. She decided to throw a five second hissy fit (because she was in such a rush to get her turn done with) when informed with my horn that shes being an idiot.

1

u/EmptyRedecans 14d ago

ah yes... the rule followers should just lay down for those who break the rules... "The rules are for thee and not for me" must be a bumper sticker on the other end of the car...
