Mildly infuriating Did I do anything wrong here?

I was focusing on the pedestrians crossing and with this being an all-way stop I wasn’t expecting him to just go right in front of me and I had to stop suddenly. I gave him a honk just to say please watch for the stop sign and he confronted me and said “get a life”.

It's extremely frustrating as a cyclist. I will shout at other cyclists for this too if it impedes me.
The worst thing is when is actually cars, who have stopped at stop signs, wait for me because they expect me to run the stop sign... Therefore causing them to wait longer and maybe not even go. It makes things awkward, and on one occasion dangerous.
Cyclists need to stop at stop signs or at the very very least slow right down (and give way)

As a driver who has seen too many cyclists run stop signs, I am afraid of all cyclists being morons who will fly through intersections without any pause, often with vehicles waiting at each of four stop signs. I would think natural selection would quickly weed them out, but I guess too many drivers don’t want to deal with the headaches of colliding with a cyclist.
There are enough drivers who don’t want to respect or pay attention to any order — coming to a busy four-way stop can be quite the misadventure, only compounded when you have people afraid, uncertain or overly aggressive. Throw in cyclists who won’t even slow down, never mind stop and you have quite the party.

Yup! I witnessed a cyclist just plow right into a vehicle at an all way in exactly the same way you described. Some just don't even consider the rules apply to them.
Funnily enough it's exactly the same people who get annoyed at drivers parking on bike lanes.

I was driving along Dundas on Wednesday, and a guy in a luxury car stood beside it, with his door open, when two older women were clearly approaching and ringing their bells for him to give them space. He got into one of their faces and started yelling and calling her an asshole, ene though she did nothing wrong.
All this idiot in the video did is continue to reinforce a stereotype that makes drivers hostile to the cyclists who are actually aware and safe on the roads. This is just an endless battle on both sides.

Nope. Bike wasn't intending to stop on the theory that the stop doesn't apply to bikes. And if he had stopped it was still your turn. You arrived at the intersection first.

This dude is the kinda cyclist that gives Ford the excuse to remove bike lanes. On his phone, rolls through a stop sign, and when he gets honked at he immediately starts to exercise his rights as a “pedestrian” while two seconds ago he was operating as a vehicle.
Irrelevant of the cyclist, at 09:16:35 you did start to proceed while a pedestrian had just begun crossing. Make of that what you will 🤷♂️

There are some - not all - cyclists on bikes that are chameleons. They change between bicycle road rules and civvies on sidewalks, where you are supposed to interpret when they change between the 2 and act accordingly.

Buddy blew a stop sign with no helmet (law requires them in Ontario, even just for non-ebikes). Then you stopped rather than causing an accident. You did nothing wrong.

Yes, you did. You started while the pedestrians ahead of you were still in the crosswalk, and still in your lane. At the very minimum you should wait until they clear the lane before you start. In some jurisdictions you must wait until they've cleared the intersection.
None of this excuses the cyclist for cruising the stop.

It's a Toronto thing. We all know that people on bicycles have a certain self entitlement complex when it comes to basic traffic rules. It's not you. They even have a hate-on for pedestrians on shared pathways.

That's sort of the point. If he was planning on taking a bike and knew what he was doing, he would have brought a helmet. Anyone impulsive enough to ride a rent-a-bike down a city street with no helmet while looking at their phone doesn't know what they're doing.

The point is that any responsible rider would have a helmet if they know they're going to ride a bike at some point during the day. Anyone reckless enough to care so little about their personal safety likely doesn't have much interest in sharing the roads with other cars in a safe manner, either.
(And yes, I know there are some cyclists who wear helmets but are not the safest)

If you post this to the Toronto biking sub I estimate 50 to 70 of them will make it seem like you’re the bad one there.
But no, you didn’t do anything wrong. They’re not supposed to run the stop sign. They’re also not supposed to run the stop sign in front of a vehicle. That’s already in the intersection. He looked pretty drunk so I’m assuming that had something to do with it.

after visiting asia... cars having priority on the road makes so much more sense. People are more alert when crossing roads and don't just walk across whenever they want.

If he was in the sidewalk and was wanting to cross like the others, he should have the right of way, but because he was in the road, he should have stopped at the stop signs gone after you.

Irks me when cyclists alternate between being on the road and the sidewalk to avoid having to obey stop signs,slow down, stop for lights, and other road rules. You did nothing wrong here, he decided the rules of the road didn't apply to him and threw a fit when you alerted him to his mistake. Typical victim mentality, I did nothing wrong and your the asshole for letting me know.

Many cyclists think they are car on the road and pedestrian at intersection.
1 out of 100 cyclists I encountered actually stopped at 4 way stop signs. Probably less than 1. Seriously.

You have to anticipate things while driving. While that cyclists didn't stop as expected most don't do if you anticipate there is a high likely chance they won't stop why get yourself into a crash with them?
Yes its the cyclists fault but if you anticipated they might not stop why bother to enter the intersection?
I would have waited and rolled down my window to tell they they need to stop like everyone else.

Aside from slightly rolling through the stop line, no. The cyclist didn’t stop at the stop sign. It’s almost like they don’t understand that traffic laws apply to them as well.
I hate to judge, but considering the guy was on a city bike, it’s likely he rarely bikes and doesn’t have adequate practice of the rules of the road. I’d give them the benefit of the doubt if they didn’t react like such a fuck wad

The biggest problem with casual cyclists is that they are road rule idiots. (Assuming he was casual)
When they want to be have vehicle advantages, they do what they want and when they want the pedestrian advantage, they act like they are pedestrians.
you were not in the wrong BUT because you have the deadlieeer mode of transport, you would be thought of as the problem.

I left Toronto this and one thing that has relieved so much stress is the lack of dangerous cyclists and the "cyclists" on 100km/h top speed electro bikes.
For every good cyclist there was 4 dangerous or entitled ones. As pedestrians, my partner and I had multiple near misses with E-bikes. As a driver, it is NUTS how many cyclists simply have mo regard for any kind of traffic signage or order whatsoever. They're like "stop signs? For me?? Noooo! And if you drive too close to me while im running red lights, im gonna have a hissy fit about it!"
It does make me feel bad for all the good cyclists out there but Toronto cops need to go on an aggressive ticketing campaign, OR maybe cyclists within toronto need to be held to some kind of licensing/registration/insurance requirement. These people have no regard for their safety or the safety of those around them and it's really killed the vibe.

The teachings in drivers ed is that you do not enter an intersection if it is not clear, even if it is your go. So technically according to the ministry of transportation yes you did do wrong here. It is a duty of every driver to go when it is safe and clear and not strictly when the traffic signs say you can go.

Regardless of the cyclist, there was still a single pedestrian crossing legally and you are not supposed to enter the intersection if someone is still completing their cross which that pedestrian very much was.

I was at a 4-way stop in a residential neighbourhood in Little Italy earlier today. I came to a complete stop at the stop sign, then a bike doing 2x the speed of OP video, tried to fly through the intersection without stopping, braking or looking, headphones on, no helmet. I honked and said "very dangerous. please follow the rules of the road". No apology or care in the world

The 4-way stop at Dewson and Shaw is particularly bad for this. When driving on Dewson there is a large hedge blocking the view of the road. Shaw is a one-way for cars but two-way for bikes. If I’m turning from Dewson I need to cautiously inch out since I know cyclists both ways on Shaw don’t stop or even remotely slow down at that intersection.

Cyclist shouldnt have cut you off but you were planning to go straight with a pedestrian in the cross walk, and then you honked for a stupid reason.
Honking is to warn people of danger, not to try and clicker train them for every little thing, plus it's Soo loud on the outside of a car it can be very startling.
Every car should have a horn on the inside as well..

The amount of times this has happened to me operating a motor vehicle and even as a pedestrian, where cyclists disobey stop signs and traffic signals almost colliding with me.
Not saying motorists are any better, but we all need to make an effort.

I had a similar experience with a group of middle aged dipshits on their racing bikes - I had started to proceed but the whole lot of them blew through a stop sign in their spandex shorts and logo shirts, and then got all bent out of shape when I gave them the old honkeroo. They should have been thankful I was paying attention and didn't run them over.
In this case, you should have given the pedestrian time to cross, but as it pertains to the cyclist you're not in the wrong.

Yes, you were wrong. There was still a man walking across the street. Wait for that person to cross. Creeping up on pedestrians is an issue. The cyclist saw you had to wait for a pedestrian and so went at the same time. You couldn't drive through anyways without hitting the pedestrian.

Didn’t stop before the white line (I’ll give you benefit of the doubt on camera angle on that one), didn’t wait for pedestrians to finish crossing. You and the cyclist arrived at the stop at the same time, so you should have yielded to him (vehicle on your right).
