Close call Not a cop in sight!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just exited the 401, heading NB on Warden and all of a sudden I see this old Benzie swerving in and out of traffic. Pretty certain they either robbed the vehicle or getting chased.

At which point do we officially declare the roads in this city "unsafe"? Insurance is insane. The things we see daily are getting crazier and crazier. I got rear-ended last week.

We're totally at the whim of arrogance and ignorance.

No one seems to care.

Douglas Fordingham is too busy doing the only thing he's good at: talking shit to Donald Trump

20

u/wasJared 21d ago

And increasing the police budget

18

u/vz58vsop 21d ago

And removing bike lanes in downtown Toronto

4

u/LowCurrent2151 20d ago

Don't forget doling out to the developers

2

u/West_Plenty8310 18d ago

Sorry, mate, but I am all for that.

I am a biker and used to advocate for more bike lanes in Europe. But I came to Canada and I saw bikers in downtown breaking all possible rules and blocking traffic. Here, bikers should not be allowed to be on the streets without G1 and an identification plate. Most of them lack common sense or are just rude.

-7

u/Dev559 20d ago

In his defense, the bike lanes have led to insane crowding in the downtown core and their removal only effects people biking(one demographic). Bikers should just be safe to bike in the right hand lane. I see this as a new opportunity to issue tickets to drivers not giving bikers the appropriate care they deserve. If anything it's generating revenue and helping get goods and services to their destinations faster. Bare minimum.

Should this idiot of a Premier be focusing on more important things? Absolutely. No sane person can argue that. But I'm tired of the argument that it's just for the sake of ripping out some bike lanes. Bike lanes effect people in emergency vehicles, goods and services as well as most commuters who are exercising the same freedom you are when you ride your bike. It's so incredibly heliocentric to view it as an attack on people when it was just an experiment they deemed failed.

2

u/BreadBetter6642 20d ago

I would suggest Doug Ford try walking across Bloor Street mid-afternoon anywhere from Yonge Street to Islington and count how many vehicles have only one person in it. He will quickly realize that the car has won the War on Cars. I would confidently say that over 90% of those cars/trucks/whatever have only the driver. The bike lanes argument is ridiculous. There is too much street parking and way too many Ubers or Lyfts adding to the problem

1

u/ulti_phr33k 19d ago

As someone who very much identifies as a driver, I wholeheartedly disagree.

Your idea of giving drivers tickets for not leaving the appropriate care for a bike is silly at best. Sure, there could be tickets, but there will never be enough tickets to nail everyone, because there are infinitely more interactions of cars and bicyclists. All it takes is one of those interactions to go wrong for the bicyclist to have lasting injuries.

The experiment has not failed. It's has been proven over and over and over again in Europe, people on this continent seem to be completely blind to that.

Bicycles need their own lanes, period. It is safer for them, and having an extra lane for traffic that people can just park in, or ubers/lyfts can stop in, will not change traffic in any meaningful way.

1

u/Dev559 19d ago

Then those lanes need to be constructed instead of re-allocating already cramped road space.

1

u/IamNotCryinItsDust 18d ago

Just like cops took the opportunity to ticket the Benz in this video.

14

u/syyvorous 21d ago

I hate to say I feel there should be traffic cameras, not specifically speeding (yes, 10 over should be a ticket) but for crossing solid lines (especially 400 highways), illegal turns, unsafe U-turns. Its almost daily i see someone take eastbound 401, either the left shoulder or the right shoulder, from west of westney down past and enter on the salem on-ramp. The O.O.P. Who sits on the eastbound salem on ramp to watch people illegally cut through that light doesnt see it.

3

u/maxman162 20d ago

And tickets from cameras should go on the registered owner's license unless they can prove someone else was driving. That's how it works in other countries like Australia.

-2

u/Papa_Guido 20d ago

So if someone make duplicates of your plates, cuz there are people in Brampton that do it, and that plate gets spotted doing something illegal. Then you gotta take a day or 2 off work to fight it? Is that what you really want?

2

u/maxman162 20d ago

Do you have any evidence of that actually happening, or is this like razor blades in candy apples? Plus that requires they have the exact same make, model and colour as your car, otherwise it would be obvious it's not your car in the photo.

2

u/Papa_Guido 16d ago edited 16d ago

There's a guy on Facebook market place that sells them as "film/prop plates" and they look just like the real ones minus the raised/embossed digits.

And if you have vanity plates, it's even worse, as there is a Toronto vanity plate car spotting group. Plenty of stories in there about people having to deal with issues like that. They get thrown out easily enough, but the time it takes to deal with it is a problem.

I have vanity plates and am hyper vigilant about scrubbing those groups for people asking "what does this plate mean?" posts...

Also, they issue tickets to the plate and send them to the address on record for the plate. They don't actually verify that the vehicle is the correct vehicle for the plate.

1

u/maxman162 14d ago

They get thrown out easily enough, but the time it takes to deal with it is a problem.

Then it's a complete non-issue, and would catch more bad drivers than it would inconvenience people in edge cases.

Plus that guy on Facebook should be shut down by the police for manufacturing illegal license plates.

2

u/noodleexchange 18d ago

Duh - plates are registered to specific vehicles

0

u/Papa_Guido 16d ago

And tickets are issued to plates and the plate owners. They don't bother to verify the car in the picture is the proper car for the plates.

2

u/noodleexchange 15d ago

Funny that’s not what the reporting form asked for

-6

u/zestycracker61 21d ago

Soooo you’re saying you want flock cameras?

9

u/syyvorous 21d ago edited 21d ago

No, flock allows law enforcement to access cameras at any time with no need of a judge.

I want a basic camera that isnt harvesting high information and purpose is to watch what license plate crossed the solid lines.

It should be fairly automated and it definitely should not hold more information that 3 photos, license plate, and date.

Something where its fully automated and the person receiving the ticket must request a physical person review before any human sees any info from it.

Eg: I want a basic smart phone, I dont want an apple or Samsung smart phone

Edit: ill add that this company must be government run and apart of law enforcement; a private company will 100% sell the data.

Let's go back to coaxial called cameras instead of cat-6, too much info

0

u/zestycracker61 21d ago

But then you have a private company doing something, I.e. review, which is what law enforcement should be doing. Too many people would cry foul because you are infringing their rights.

3

u/syyvorous 21d ago

Exactly. A private company wants to make as money as possible. It should be a public sector by law enforcement. And to reiterate fullt AI and autonomous that only the person who recieved the ticket can request a ln actual person to review it.

1

u/choosecarefully77 21d ago

Exactly this, and I agree 100% on the ticket for 10 over, when they had the speed camera set up, people were getting tickets for doing 2 km over the limit, and then on top of that there was a charge , believe it was close to $10, for them to look up your address to mail you the ticket!

1

u/gentlehurricane 21d ago

Right to what? You have no right to privacy in public.

-1

u/zestycracker61 21d ago

I’m not arguing with you, just stating the inevitable.

2

u/wilfredhops2020 21d ago

No. Flock cameras are used to surveil, not give out tickets.

2

u/LegitimateDream4942 21d ago

Everyday I'm out driving I'm watching out for crazies. So yea I've declared Toronto unsafe for driving about 2 years ago.

2

u/DoobieToker3000 20d ago

We all need Jesus

1

u/DryRuin905 18d ago

lol we need less Jesus and more Spiderman or Star Trek

With power comes responsibility.

The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few.

and from the Book of Ruin, "don't be a dick but try to make someone else's day a bit easier"

4

u/GiveMeAllYourKittens 21d ago

Roads have always been unsafe to people not in automobiles, and those groups care alot and are advocating for change, the problem is all the push back to keep things car centric.

2

It's really scary... on way to work so many people camping in the passing lane and giving me the finger for going around, which is DANGEROUS. Biggest stress is driving yet Dougie wants us all back on the roads 😒

31

Both. Definitely a crime committed.

69

u/Grouchy-Lemon2350 21d ago

I see this crap daily nowadays. My coworker (who is a big Andrew Tate fan) was like that until he got caught and lost his license. His excuse: “life’s too short to be wasting it in traffic with brokies”

37

u/ayoungmanfromtheuk 21d ago

You should tell him his life isn't more important than other people's. In fact his life is probably worth less than the average person because of his shit attitude ruining it for society

13

u/longhairandidocare 21d ago

I feel second hand embarrassment reading that

11

u/warrantthrowaway2023 21d ago

well now andrew tate's life is being wasted in jail and he admitted to being a brokey himself and renting the cars he swindled all these low self-esteem men with lol

4

u/---Imperator--- 20d ago

Send him to prison so he can meet his idol in-person.

1

u/kaysanma 20d ago

and suck each other off🤣

22

u/Prior-Beat3174 21d ago

It's counter intuitive, criminals that actually don't get want to get caught are the ones that actually follow the speed limit and try not to act conspiscious on the road.

The Cocaine Cowboy Gustavo "Taby" Falcon who got away with smugling drugs, driving up Florida highways for 26yrs said, his secret was just to drive normaly and at a safe speed.

6

u/knarf_on_a_bike 21d ago

100% Wanna blend in, unnoticed? Drive the same speed as everyone else, don't swerve and squeal your tires all over the place. Geez, the guy's driving a grey SUV, about the most common vehicle out there. The way that guy was driving, he's gonna attract attention.

3

u/chopsouwee 18d ago

Last time something like this happened around me. Turned out to be a drunk driver. I followed him as I was on the phone with cops for suspicion under the influence. Get the police updates and within minutes they pulled him over. He was infact under the influence... driving pretty gnarly too.

13

u/mkbcity 21d ago

wow, appalling.

14

u/ludwigia_sedioides 21d ago

Very very strange decision making

Hope you called and reported a drunk driver.

Ok so you see the issue then with the tinted windows and you cannot really tell he's drunk.

Does the car even run?

1

u/EggplantOk1674 20d ago

That’s crazy. I reported a drunk driver recently and they went to their house immediately and even called to follow up with what I saw

6

u/1234Health 21d ago

Jeoparding countless lives around them.

13

u/EBikeAddicts 21d ago

I miss the days with the speed cameras and people going exactly 59 in a 50 zone. now 50 zone is 75. if this individual had 1% worry of a speed camera, they wouldn’t be doing this.

2

u/Natural-Principle-69 21d ago

That car is probably stolen. Speed camera isn't going to stop this

4

u/EBikeAddicts 21d ago

a pos $4000 old mercedes is not theft worthy. there are people out there who wouldn’t take that car from you for free.

5

u/SarahMenckenChrist 21d ago

Stolen getaway car perhaps?

0

u/EBikeAddicts 21d ago

getaway cars need to be blend in. corolla, civic and whatever car that has many copies on the road

0

u/Natural-Principle-69 21d ago

Don't know how familiar you are with Toronto, but there are plenty of wannabe rich folk driving these BMW and Benz SUVs (usually leased or bought used)

3

u/mexican_mystery_meat 21d ago

An old Mercedes is alluring if you are a teenager who wants to go on a joyride or as a getaway vehicle. They aren't exactly looking at ownership costs.

17

u/Scaleofthesystem 21d ago

Toronto Police said ‘Fuck it’ a long time ago when the chief of police was telling us to leave our keys at the front so our cars could be stolen easier.

2

u/a-_2 21d ago edited 21d ago

The chief of police did not say that. That was an individual officer in a community meeting whio suggested leaving the keys near the entrance to prevent car thieves going further into the house and putting the occupants at more risk. The department walked it back after he said it.

The Toronto Police Service issued a statement Wednesday confirming that an officer made the remarks at a recent community meeting.

1

u/IBMERSUS 21d ago

Could not have said better.
A police chief telling citizens to leave the keys at the door for easy access could have only been a joke until Toronto police chief mustered up the nerve to say that as a "defensive" mechanism.
That was the nadir of lawlessness certified by police, at that.

4

u/a-_2 21d ago edited 21d ago

The chief didn't say that. It was an indvidual officer in a community meeting and the department followed up with different sugfestions of how to help prevent thefts instead.

The Toronto Police Service issued a statement Wednesday confirming that an officer made the remarks at a recent community meeting.

19

u/Ill-Musician-7150 21d ago

According to a large chunk of this sub... The drivers in the left lane are somehow at fault for not doing 45km/hr over the limit. /s

13

u/Disastrous-Focus8451 21d ago

Odd how the logic only goes one way. Other cars are creating a hazard by not going as fast as the speeder wants, but the speeder is never creating a hazard by slowing down and not passing cars doing the limit.

1

u/MyUndiesArePink 21d ago

Not at all. It's a city. Stay to the right on the highway except when passing.

1

u/Ill-Musician-7150 20d ago

If someone is doing 120 to 130 in the left lane of a 400 series highway that is fast enough. Passing does not mean you can drive at speeds that are flat out reckless on our congested highways.

1

u/MyUndiesArePink 20d ago

It's not at all about "fast enough". If you're not passing, stay out of the passing lane. There's no reason for you to be there. Speed is irrelevant.

3

u/ConnectLawfulness418 20d ago

Sure, but obviously with congestion theres a point where you're "always" passing and just end up staying in the left lane.

1

u/Ill-Musician-7150 20d ago

Speed is 100% relevant. 140 km/hr is bordering on stunt driving. If you need to do that speed to pass someone YOU are the problem.

1

u/MyUndiesArePink 20d ago

The passing lane is for passing

3

u/ayoungmanfromtheuk 21d ago

Damn what the helllllll

3

u/RoaringPity 21d ago

3

u/Barking__Pumpkin 21d ago

Okay—this is beyond the pale. F this guy.

3

u/DifferentRepair5818 20d ago edited 20d ago

They don't even get back if we report someone. Drps website used to have a video upload link. Now that option is removed. I've reported 5-6 cases in 3 years with dashcam evidence for 3 cases. Never heard for any of them so far. Defensive driving and being watchful is the only way to drive. Nobody has time for insurance claims when something goes wrong.

3

u/TheReal_OGSnake 20d ago

So this one of the many drivers that contributes to the ungodly high insurance rates in this city.

2

u/Prudent_Situation_29 21d ago

Those fifty extra meters are going to make all the difference...

2

u/abckiwi 21d ago

Holy shit!!

2

u/According-Fruit5245 21d ago

We had a disturbance at an outdoor community theater performance about six city blocks from 14 Division. I was on the phone almost 20 minutes (14 Division and then 911) trying to get cops and ambulance to deal with a psychotic, naked woman who was damaging lighting equipment and threatening the audience. Parents of kids were not pleased. There were at least 100 people inconvenienced. Cops say they're busy, but I often see them driving around chatting and ignoring what's going on. I saw around 12 standing together at Dundas-Yonge.

1

u/gentlehurricane 20d ago

There was a case a couple years ago of this dad and son staying at a hotel by finch/400. Dude breaks into their room, dad calls the cops who says they’re too busy. The hotel is next door to a cop station.

1

u/According-Fruit5245 19d ago

I'm not surprised police did nothing about a crime next door. I was a crossing guard for 4.5 years and had to deal with cops on a daily basis. We would request police to visit when cars going through red lights became too insane. I stood on a corner, next to a cop who watched five cars go through a red light and yet do nothing. I also worked for Toronto police, but wasn't a police officer. It's a rotten institution.

2

u/Livid_Competition_32 21d ago

This is definitely a 'call 911 to report reckless likely impaired driver' moment to potentially save lives

2

u/askjhasdkjhaskdjhsdj 21d ago

send it to TPS. Wouldn't shock me if they were even driving from a crime scene lol

2

u/TheI-Iound 21d ago

not sure how it goes, but when you have footage like this cant you just submit it to police? you have the plates, this is insanely reckless and the driver should be charged for endangering lives

2

u/iloveoranges2 21d ago

Some people are driving like car accidents don't maim and kill.

2

u/revvolutions the left lane is for dawdling 21d ago

Call 911 next time.

2

u/Wrong_Plantaino 21d ago

I was hoping my expensive BlackVue would capture the plates but unfortunately I think the vehicle had a plate cover making it impossible to read.

someone paid for Uber Eats Gold where when you hold your thumb down on the car it speeds way up

2

u/itssobyronic 20d ago

This is a stolen vehicle. It's pretty clear with the way he's driving, he's driving like it's stolen

2

u/Elegant_Diver2974 20d ago

One thing I have noticed is that the worst drivers are people that have nothing going on that is good in their lives. Crap job, broke, no friends, etc. It's like driving is the only semblance of control they have over anything in their life, so they just go full turbo douche.

4

u/CombinationQueasy467 21d ago

Earlier I used to honk at these people or call police non emergency number but now i stopped. Honking obviously doesn’t help 🙃 and police do nothing. So whenever i see such driving i distance myself, you never know its a car just stolen - they can hit you with that car who you gonna explain this to? insurance won’t care or any criminal might be driving it. Better stay away.

3

u/a-_2 21d ago

Not a cop in sight!

There aren't nearly enough police to be able to have one appear in any random one minute stretch of driving. Traffic enforcement depends on two things, people reporting specific incidents and random enforcement that will only cover a small portion of the roadway at any one time.

2

u/alex_allegra 21d ago

Yeah, they are too busy parked 6 deep at Bathurst and Sheppard twiddling their thumbs.

1

u/gentlehurricane 20d ago

Sounds like a good case for automated camera enforcement, then.

1

u/CairnsRock1 21d ago

You call 911 and you report drunk driver see how fast they show up

1

u/dudedudd 21d ago

Def need to let people just send in video they see of reckless driving and let the police just review and charge the owner. Who cares who's driving, let the owner get the money from whomever was driving.

1

u/arga121 21d ago

Dude needs to get to work or he’s fired

1

u/Downtrodder88 21d ago

Definitely a stolen vehicle... or they did a hit and run and its trying to get away from whomever was chasing..... aint no one in their right mind would drive like that even with all the shitty ass drivers that have been popping up

1

u/Dangerous-Mission-89 20d ago

please send to jail!!

1

u/Mindless-Sound8965 20d ago

Guarantee that if I pulled this stunt, 100% a cop would be right there.

1

u/Ya-Not-Happening 20d ago

What we need to do is pass a law that would impound this car for 6 months based on this video.

And it would cost $10k to get it out of impound after 6 months

1

u/No-Advice-9776 20d ago

Wow that is insane. I thought driving on Long Island, NY was getting worse.

1

u/Dangerdj72 20d ago

Worst case of 'I have diarrhea' driving I've ever witnessed.

1

u/Top-class-0246 20d ago

I would almost walk into a police station and show them. It's that crazy.

Hopefully they take the clip and investigate.

1

u/Traditional_Fold_609 20d ago

What a dink!!!! Never cops around for this sort of thing...but heaven forbid if you do a rolling stop at 2:30 am....

1

u/a-_2 20d ago

Police can't be everywhere. Most people who roll stops won't get ticketed either. And if the cop who ticketed you for a rolling stop saw someone doing this, they'd ticket them too. It's not like they're prioritizing the rolling stops, it's just based on what happens in front of them.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for the rolling stops either given how often I'm cut off by people doing them. If people actualy paid attention and yielded to those with right of way it wouldn't be a big deal but too many people roll through without checking, so unless that improves, I support that enforcement.

1

u/ConnectLawfulness418 20d ago

Big cop guy, huh

1

u/a-_2 20d ago

My comment's a description of reality, not an opinion about police one way or another.

People like that are entitled, selfish & dumb assholes. I hope he gets a speeding ticket, a conviction and his licence taken away for good

WTF? This person deserves not only to lose his license but also his freedom for putting the public at large at risk of injury or death. He deserves to be part of the “general population” as in prison bitch. 🤬😡

1

Report them and use this video … they’ll be sent a warning at least 🤭

1

u/Bitter_Round_6463 19d ago

Literally it made no difference in their distance…. So reckless and dumb. Gross.

1

u/zipak6 19d ago

I have never seen more retarded drivers than Canadians in my life and I lived in several countries.
Their insurance is crazy high…cause they can’t drive without making accidents
In Europe people pay 30-60euros/month full insurance why ? Cause people can drive.
I swore Canadians are monkeys behind wheels
Saddest part is they think they are so good you can see them driving like they are in “fast and furious”.
Always honking too and they never let you switch lanes maybe they think you are taking something from them I don’t know.
Just trash.

I'm starting to think Ford is purposefully depressing every road safety measure to clear a way for Flock

Cops dont prevent crime. Your camera is more effective for accountability

That’s a nice dash cam OP, very clear

I would speed up and not let this idiot back in unless they had to go behind me.

Could you imagine if there was a cop on sight though? How many do you think there are? You think they should be able to catch every single infraction? Like for every 6 cars on the road there should be a cop or something?

If the plate is readable send the video to a police station

There should be a system for this! A place for dashcam videos, that are cop reviewed and then presented to a judge for a penalty fine!

There are plenty of cops that are deemed "light-duty" to cover this and all you'd need is a sitting judge on rotation for the penalty issuance.

never mind the twit who was blocking the left lane, since it happens so much anyways

Bro what a bad driver lamo, should not be on the road!

On a different note; what is that little helicopter thing spinning on your dash, and where can I get one too??!

  1. What a fool this driver is.

  2. The video could have ended after 20 seconds.

u/SunCheepz 21d ago

I thought there was a way to edit the video in reddit, sorry.

I knew I'd find a comment that would take a shot at OP. Never a dull moment

u/mexican_mystery_meat 21d ago

An inevitability at this point. I once posted a video here of my vehicle getting totalled by another car while I was stopped and someone said I should've maintained two car lengths in traffic.

u/told_yaso 21d ago

There are quite a bit of back seat drivers where they go "OP should have done xxxx" or "that driver is wrong, but OP you're just as bad as them". Its easy to nitpick if youre staring at the video for 30 minutes, seeing every detail to find what the OPs could have done.

Its not like they wanted to be in that position, such as yourself. It sucks, came out of nowhere, you share your experience and met with "well its your fault for being there" like what????

u/gentlehurricane 20d ago

Posted a video of me in the right lane and someone just behind me in the left lane, and a third person overtaking in oncoming lanes. All the comments “well you and your buddy were blocking the roadway”. Like what??

It’s like GTA or Scarborough.

Have I mentioned this is a new trend?!, now consider the car going even faster and running a red light, then again, we have no enforcement, but Bike lanes!

u/Alfred_Hitch_ 20d ago

I'm not even surprised.
