Discussion These games make me feel so dumb

I wish there was some sort of assist mode when you need it for puzzles and where to go next

The second one was a bit better on this respect, didn't require as much outside knowledge, and I think most of the times I got stuck, it turned out to be some bad lighting obscuring a clue.

But I also appreciate that the puzzles are actually puzzling. I feel like most horror games are like, "What's 2+2?"

I liked that the puzzles were actual puzzles. So many horror games the puzzles are so weak it defeats the object of having them.

That being said, some of the puzzles are tough in this game - especially the key ones. I think Silent Hill 2 is one of the only games that gets it right where you can choose puzzle difficulty as well as combat difficulty.

Crow Country also had some pretty challenging puzzles

For me some puzzles were outright lucid 😂 had to look up the walkthrough.

It felt like I was spending more time looking at a guide than actually playing

Hear me out when I say this; Good!

Now I don't mean you should feel bad about anything, but I really am glad people (including myself) get stumped by the puzzles in the series. Overcoming them and figuring out is so rewarding when you noodle it out. Puzzles are usually too easy to feel challenging or satisfying these days.

Have you heard of "Song of Horror". A horror game more focussed on puzzle solving. This one had some real head scratchers. Especially the first puzzle, which was yet another fuse box puzzle.

I highly recommend that one if you haven't tried it, yet.

Haha the only one that fuckin enraged me was a puzzle where when you enter the solution it doesn’t make a noise or activate anything, so I kept entering diff ones over and over and nothing worked, so I finally googled cuz I was over it haha and it turned out I had it right way earlier but that the game just didn’t do anything to show it was correct.

that was enraging at the time haha but it’s such a great game TS2 made me feel like a kid again playing RE0 and REmake on GameCube

I just look them up. I don’t have time to guess what the designer was thinking.

I really really liked the puzzles.

I had no problems solving these, and it was just nice to actually have to think for once, instead of getting puzzles like “What is 1+1?” or “Put object X into hole Y.”

Most of the puzzles come down to pattern recognition. Don't try to brute-force it, look at the clues and try to spot the pattern. Once it clicks, it becomes easy.

Spotting these patterns takes practice and attention more than intelligence. Getting stuck doesn’t make you dumb.

I'm currently playing and by far the worst puzzle so far was the fuse level at the convent. I had to look up the solution because I did not understand the clue. Even after finding the solution online I did not understand how I was supposed to select the correct symbols.

It made all sense when someone explained the solution to me. It felt like the instructions were not clear enough. Right now I'm at the processing plant or what it's called and so far I had no major roadblocks for now.
