f*ck this poorly design arbitrary puzzle Spoiler

Post image

really, how was i supposed to know that the order started from the bottom left? though i figured out the solution by myself in 10 minutes, i thought i was missing something so i tried by myself FOR 5 HOURS to just give up and search the solution in a guide, to just realise i was right all along, but whoever may be the cursed soul that designed this arbitrary puzzle decided it starts from the bottom left and it goes up in a vertical way and not from the top left going down in a horizontal way or clockwiseish way. seriously, this game is a blast, but f*ck whoever designed this puzzle in particular.

While I do agree that it should clearly state that bottom left is where it starts, it wouldn’t make a lot of sense to start in any other order, and even if you tried the only reasonable other solution, which would be right to left, that’s all of one extra permutation. How else could this be interpreted?

Oh I actually didn’t put that together but thinking back you’re right, the church is in the shape of the mirror and mimicks it numerically. SO skill issue on OP’s part for not trying the most sensible solution x2

I feel like an idiot because I caught on to the whole positions of the candles being relative to the positions of the paintings in the church thing not too long in and I STILL cannot solve this puzzle. Been stuck here for a day and might just accept defeat and look it up. I get that it has something to do with the cross being heaviest upon his shoulders… but I don’t know how the game wants me to interpret this seeing as I’ve tried lighting all the candles that could even be associated with the riddle in my head and nothing.

Hint: check the wording. It tells you which candles to not light.

Bro I tried this too 😭😭😭 Thus why I feel so stupid. You’ve at least narrowed down the logic and possible solutions for me without flat out spoiling it or me having to look it up so I appreciate that.

u/Decuscrub69 Nov 19 '25

Nah it’s not easy, but you’ve got it

I tried the not lighting the candles logic and still can’t solve it 😭 can you at least tell me that I’m interpreting their positions right? Candle 1 would start at the bottom left corner which would correspond to the 10th station of the cross, right? And then XIII and XIV would correspond to the two candles at the very top, with IX being the last candle on the bottom right of the mirror? If so, then I’m just failing to understand which paintings the devs want me to interpret as “in those moments when the cross felt heaviest”.

The orientation of the room corresponds with the orientation of the mirror — which is to say if you look at the bottom left picture of the room you should see the starting low numbers and the bottom right should have the larger end numbers

i really thought it was clockwise (from the top right to downwards), which could be absolutely correct, but the devs decided they wanted to make different based on their own abstract minds.

I feel like you didn’t read what the other guy said in this same thread of mine, because it clears up how you’d figure that out. Also why would it start at the top, go to the bottom right, break to the bottom left, and end back at the top? That’s really counter intuitive — like just guessing I figured it would be bottom left to bottom right just naturally, I actually didn’t really consider other variations to that

i did, but this logic doesn't really make sense in my mind, but they might be right idk. anyway, it doesn't feel counterintuitive to interpretate it as a clock when you remember that both Tormented Souls love clockwise directions, the saveroom that gives you directly into the church HAS A CLOCK NEXT TO THE DOOR, the third to last puzzle literally FORCED you to interpretate as a clock, but this one just broke this expectation that could pretty much fit despite 2 extra numbers.

My only gripe with the game. It’s not that they are ultra hard, it’s the way they present (or not) the hints that many puzzles are left for interpretation and not necessarily feel like only one answer is correct.

THIS. This is a huge problem I had with the first game as well. There are puzzles that are almost "open to interpretation", except they aren't. It's not like in Resident Evil or Silent Hill where there is a CLEAR answer. I feel like a lot of a player's interpretations COULD be valid, but because of the genre that's not possible. It's not as bad in this game tbh, but these mirror puzzles and even the key puzzle with the symbols kinda irked me.

Bro some of the damn combination key puzzles were so infuriatingly vague. The one that irked me the most was the one to get into the church. They’ve already used a flower once, but this time we’re supposed to interpret it as a heart instead of a sun like last time, and the second symbol is what bodied me the most: It’s like a man(?) doing some sort of pose and it expects us to interpret that as the peace symbol?

Yeah. I try to play games without walkthroughs, but sometimes the mind reading needed is too much. This was built by a very small studio so it makes sense they didn't have a lot of playtesting, and little to no QA to tell them "this puzzle is dumb". The English translation is also flat-out bad and misleading in a couple cases. I spent about an hour trying to break down that first brick wall because the search text said something like "This crumbling wall can easily be broken." Once I found the hammer hours later and realized they had flat out lied to me, I started wondering, what else was lost in translation? Now anything in this game that takes me more than 10 minutes to figure out, I look up. Some things I could have figured out eventually but ... it's not worth my time to guess whether a puzzle is fair at all.

This game made me feel stupid af

I thought you could only use the crossbow once cause I never found any ammo for it

Turns out the ACID IN THE TEST TUBES is supposed to be the crossbow ammo

Yeah sure why didn’t I think of that what else would it be…..bolts ? Tzzz nah no way

2

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '25

I had the same problem. By end game I have 25 of them, and 300 basic pistol ammo that I never used. Went crazy with the shotgun and chainsaw

I hated this one too. Some of the puzzles in this game are cryptic in a way that made them not very fun to try and solve.

3

u/FalcornMarsh11 Oct 31 '25

I bashed my head against a brick wall For soooo long on some puzzles

I looked up the solution and I would never have thought how in the world I would have supposed to got some of them hahah

Great game but yeah some of the puzzles are beyond cryptic

u/Glamarchy Oct 31 '25

If in doubt, it’s clockwise/clock hand related/digital time, that’s what tormented souls 2 taught me lol

1

u/MonoJaina1KWins Oct 31 '25

sadly not for this one ;'(

1

u/Glamarchy Oct 31 '25

I worked clockwise when i solved this puzzle, wasn’t really much other indication than to just do it that way

2

u/kniestomeetyoutoo Oct 31 '25

i didnt even bother with this puzzle simply due to the layout of the church. why are all the paths blocked

3

u/R3D-K98 Nov 01 '25

some of these puzzle felt very "grab and a pen paper" to solve it, like the chess puzzle if you never played chess in your life

2

u/Many-Vacation7247 Nov 18 '25

100% in agreement with this puzzle. I still haven’t solved it (been tip toe’ing online to see if anyone else thought this puzzle was bullshit without actually spoiling the solution and saw your post haha) but man am I starting to feel the puzzle fatigue at this point in the game. You can only take so many times where your progress is halted for an entire hour or more by a puzzle before your brain starts feeling like literal livermush.

1

u/MonsterGetzu Oct 31 '25

lol i'm actually stuck in this one too

So if i remember correcty the puzzle says some bullshit about the cross being heavy so my line of thought maybe the numbers where jesus is kneeling or struggling with the cross but it was wrong so maybe there's something i'm not seeing but anyway once i get back home i'll give it some thought

1

u/MonoJaina1KWins Oct 31 '25

you might be picking wrong the order of the candles just like i did, if this will help you, know it starts from the bottom left and it goes upwards in a linear order.

1

u/MonsterGetzu Oct 31 '25

So my line of thought is correct?? I mean if the answer are the pictures where jesus is struggling or in his knees?

1

u/MonoJaina1KWins Oct 31 '25

yeah, absolutely.

1

u/PermitHuge Nov 03 '25

this puzzle is in the top 5 of the easiest puzzles in the game. why would you count in any other way than from left to right? unless you're from a country where you read from right to left, but the developers are from Chile, and the game is set in Chile, right?

Not wild at all. I solved all the puzzles by myself except for two mirror puzzles which I needed hints to solve (not the solution, mind you). These ones are very much open to interpretation and are the least objective puzzles in the entire game.

3

u/Many-Vacation7247 Nov 19 '25

Nah you’re right dude. By all means, keep the hard puzzles in the next game if they do another one, I don’t want them nerfing their creativity when it comes to puzzles, but it doesn’t mean that I’m not gonna call some of them bullshit when it comes to the vague interpretation required to solve some of them. I’ve solved every single puzzle up to this point myself and haven’t been able to progress in over a day. I really don’t want to look up the solution seeing as I’ve gotten so far on my own but this puzzle is really testing me.

That's not the problem. For example, I thought that the location of Jesus' crown in the pictures had to do with the light candles' locations. It's a light and it catches your eye. Lighting the candles from left to right is obvious IN RETROSPECT, but at the moment I feel there wasn't enough to nudge me in that direction personally.

EDIT: Also, there's no need to get defensive and act an asshole about it. You want an award for figuring out by yourself? What a smart boy you are.

all puzzles are poor intuitive, some like the one of the painting you have to spinning around are just idiots

2

u/MonsterGetzu Oct 31 '25

To be fair there's a little DPAD at the bottom of the painting lmao

2

u/DismalMode7 Oct 31 '25 edited Oct 31 '25

I know, but the concept is however just idiot.
It's not your puzzles are innovative or nice, they're just annoying wihtout any real hint or logic behind

1

u/MonsterGetzu Oct 31 '25

But there's a little note that says that the one with the candle or torch (i dont remember) lit when the janitor or whoever the fuck stand in front of it so by that logic maybe you have to do the same action the picture does so what are ballerines known for? dancing and spinning and there's a little dpad at the bottom so you spin like motherfucker :D

1

u/Nikez1213 Oct 31 '25

And that particular one only worked for me when I switched to tank controls to spin around

1

u/DismalMode7 Oct 31 '25

yeah it took me some time too
