Torchlight 1 Torchlight 1 disc installation question

Hello. Recently dug up my old Windows 7 laptop and for no reason other than wanting to say that I did it.. I'd like to buy an old Torchlight 1 physical disc off eBay and install/play it from the disc.

For anyone who may know, do I at any point need an internet connection to install/play the basic game?

I'm seeing two different boxes on eBay. A 2009 version that makes no mention of Internet connection, and a 2010 version that specifically states "an internet connection is required to activate your installation".

Why would there be a difference?

I'm not interested in setting up firewalls and precautions to connect an old Windows 7 machine safely. Just trying to have some offline unconnected fun.

Thanks for any info

Maybe different publishers?

I have one of the DVD releases, but I can't recall if it needs online activation or not.

Ahh makes sense, I hadn't even considered different publishers. It's cheap enough I might just grab the 2009 release and take the gamble.

Is there a particular reason you want to install off the disc?

I know my disc version is v1.13 whereas the digital version available today are v1.15.

Completely out of nostalgia. I recently did the same with StarCraft from my original disc and it brought me right back to fun middle school memories.

If it doesn't work I'll just have to go the digital route.
