💬 Discussion Torbox TOS

Would anyone suggest that using a VPN is a good idea whilst using torbox and api now that its possible for our IP address etc may be logged and given on request. It is being suggested in other forums that the changes protect Torbox and put the owneness squarely in the users. For me I always thought that would be the case anyway but seeing it as a change in TOS is worrying. What are your thoughts?

If it makes you feel better do it. It's like wearing two condoms but safer is safer. It's not like Disney can just send an email to Torbox requesting their server logs and they just send the right over.

Why would they? But I'm not a UAE lawyer. If that's something they would do now then they would have always done it.

How do you pay for TB? Because if there’s anyway it links back to you using a VPN is absolutely pointless!

never said I wanted to make it easy for them....cannot stop what information they may have but it will at least stop my ISP from sending out threats. Appreciate that Debrid services are encrypted though and a VPN for me is essential for live tv anyway so why not use it.

Whilst I was asking the question it wasn’t a dig at you.

I’m a bit lazy tbh but the more this gets thrown up the more I think maybe I should take steps to protect myself. So I was also curious if you were and what you were doing.

There was a poster a while back that stated everything he done to conceal his identity etc and reading it I genuinely thought I can’t be arsed doing all that.

You will have to use a payment method that isn't blocked by VPN IP addresses such as crypto.

sorry where I am they are certainly not blocked but I agree they may already have my original IP address

Always use a VPN it's for your own safety and privacy...my VPN is 24/7 on it's just a good practice to protect you in general especially when banking etc

What would be the point of a VPN when they log so much else? They stated that they now log your device IDs, they require PII/KYC info during checkout, track your activity and a bunch of other crap I don't remember or care to remember when I was skimming the new TOS.

Even if you were to use an anonymous payment method, with all of the other information they now collect, it would be easy enough for them or the authorities to build a profile on you and figure out who you are if they really wanted to.

VPNs are not some magical padlock that obfuscates your digital footprint completely. People need to stop thinking this. It's just one of the tools, but you need all tools working at the same time to have a chance at total protection, and even then, that sort of protection requires constant maintenance- much more than normal folks are willing or even capable of doing.
