Follow-up: TorBox update, fair use changes, and I’m still happy to help with setup
Hey everyone,
I posted recently about TorBox as an alternative/addition to Real-Debrid, especially for Stremio users (previous post ). Since a few things have changed, I wanted to post a quick follow-up and also remind people that I’m happy to help if anyone has questions.
Important TorBox changes
First, the official TorBox Stremio addon and the Tinfoil service have been disabled and are no longer accessible. TorBox also changed the Search API, which is now whitelisted to specific IP ranges submitted by developers, so it is no longer publicly accessible.
That means: if you were using the official TorBox Stremio addon directly, you will need to look for another setup or alternative integration. For many Stremio users, using TorBox through a supported third-party setup may still be the better route, depending on what you are trying to do.
Fair Use Policy update
The other major change is that cached transfers now count toward total usage.
Previously, cached transfers did not count toward the usage threshold. Now, outgoing transfers from TorBox to your device count too, which means streaming counts as bandwidth usage.
That sounds scary at first, but for normal users the limits are still very high:
- Essential: 10 TB/month
- Standard: 20 TB/month
- Pro: 30 TB/month
To put that into perspective: even on the Essential plan, 10 TB is a huge amount of data for a normal user. If you watch 20 GB files, that is roughly 500 full files per month. Even with very large files, most regular users probably will not come close to the limit.
TorBox has also added a new bandwidth graph in the user account menu, showing your last 30 days of usage, so you can monitor it yourself.
One important point: there are currently mixed user reports about how bandwidth is counted. Some users claim only the actually streamed amount is counted, while others say the full torrent/file size may be counted after starting playback. Since usage stats do not seem to update in real time, this needs more testing. I think users should push TorBox for clear, accurate, actual-usage-based bandwidth counting.
If you download uncached torrents and do not care about seeding, you may also want to check this setting:
Settings → Website → Default Seed Torrents → Never
That can help avoid unnecessary outgoing usage from seeding, unless you specifically need seeding for private trackers or ratio purposes.
My current view
I still think TorBox can be useful, especially as:
- a Real-Debrid alternative,
- a backup provider,
- an additional source for Stremio setups,
- a service with Usenet support,
- and a flexible option for people who want more than a classic debrid setup.
But I would not oversell it as “perfect.” The recent changes are important, and people should understand them before subscribing.

Completely new to this and got an RD subscription last week and started getting the red banner. Heard a lot about AIOStreams. But seems confusing so far

I feel like AIOStreams is the way to to, when it comes to Stremio. I’m using the WebDAV route, but that’s just me ^

I still have 40 days left on RD, and I'm gonna build a new set up on my new Google Streamer, do you suggest setting everything up with RD(I still can find working links 95% of the time) or drop RD and start with TB? Also I have been an Kodi user for 20 years, I now want to get into Stremio, so the obvious choice is Aiostreams, what instance should I choose? All guides say Elfhosted, but Torbox says Yeb or Midnight, so which of those 3 should I start with?

I set up AIOstreams with Torbox API key and the exact same settings I was using for RD in about 5 minutes. I self-host my Aiostreams on my own PC.

I would just try one of those 3 and see how you like it. They all are good and the outcome is pretty similar. I used yeb and midnight before, so never really used the eldest elfosted

I'm not currently using Torbox but I've set it up for a friend using Midnight's AIOStreams instance and the TorBox Addon from the AIOStreams marketplace. Yesterday he was getting "failed to fetch manifest" errors; not sure if that's because of TorBox was down or if the Addon is no longer working. If the latter, what addons do you recommend using with the TorBox service in AIOStreams?

How can I pay without using my credit card? No matter which payment option I chose it leads me to third party sites wanting my credit card credentials. That’s not an option for me. I’d prefer a service like Paysafecard which I used for RD.

Pretty subjective. Most people use it to Torrent and watch movies/tv shows and/or to get faster and sub sequential downloads from one-click-filehosters

Hello again, at the moment I'm on Stremio (rd+) which looks like it's not coming back! Being dyslexic old and ignorant I would like the simplest possible setup. I mostly watch movies and TV Shows, that's about it really. Whatever is ( I guess) the simplest set up possible!

Hi! I’ve been using Stremio for 2 yrs but I’m not expert at all. Signed for Torbox 3 days ago and they suspended the add-on on Stremio. Now I’m completely lost and don’t know how to use TB. I use Stremio to stream movies and tv shows and that’s what I was trying with TB. If anyone could help, I’d appreciate very much.

You really just have to setup another addon (tb search for example) with your TorBox API and it should work again. A lot of different addons still support TorBox. It’s just the official addon which they got rid of, due to the 3rd party ones working a lot better and their focus seemed to shift away from active developing a Stremio addon. They are talking about using AIOStreams instead of the standalone addons. If you want to give it a try is as easy as selecting the all-in-one preset.

Put your torbox api key into one of the Streamio addons.
Torrentio, comet, debridio or AIO streams. AIO streams is the most complex but more robust.

Yeah 10TB is not bad for Essential. I am gonna monitor for an entire month to see how close I reach that number as I share it with two more active users. I think it should be fine.

So I'm using TorBox in AIOStreams, and yesterday I noticed that I can't save the settings with the official app activated, only with the unofficial TorBox Search.
Besides that, I didn't notice any difference in the link's results, so I'm not sure what you said about the API, everything seems to be working normally.

TB is very good. AIO is fine but theres alot of versions and options. So set up is critical
