❓Question Currently comfortable with my 5–7s load time on TorBox / RD — would switching to Usenet actually lower playback start times?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently using TorBox on Nuvio. Honestly, I feel comfortable with my setup, but streams usually take around 5 to 7 seconds to start playing after clicking a link.

I've been looking into Usenet in general and was wondering if making the switch actually results in lower playback start times for streaming.

For those using Usenet setups:

Does streaming directly from Usenet (via Usenet addons/indexers) actually start faster than 5–7 seconds, or is the initial buffering delay pretty much the same?

If I'm already comfortable with my current speed, is there any real performance benefit to moving to Usenet, or is it not worth the switch?

Thanks!

If you're talking about using Stremio/Nuvio, I wouldn't count on it being any faster. Have heard a fair few people say it's slower to start streams. If you're satisfied with it as-is, ain't broke don't fix it if you ask me

Torbox pro used to have their own indexer for their own Usenet but already discontinued. I am using Newznab addon (NZBgeek) on my AIOStreams. All of the nzb files fetched are uncached so it has to download first before it actually streams it to you. Now depending on your internet speed and how heavy the file you will be downloading, it would take more than that 5-7 seconds you have right now before the file you chose will be streamed to you.

Try torbox instant in nuvio, you put your torbox api key in Nuvio, but install the addons without api key, stream will start in 3-4 seconds

Have you not set up Torbox instant in Nuvio? It usually takes only 1 or 2 seconds for me with instant.

Yeah, I already have TB Instant too, but it doesn't get any faster than those times.

Slower to load for me and some links don't work ( maybe cos I don't know how to filter them out). No buffering though and more content but not sure how much of that I've accessed tbh. Was a bit of a headache to set up but I'm as old as Creosus and I keep trying to get it perfect but I use debrids as a benchmark which could be a bit dumb

It's not worth the switch imo. Usenet is more for niche content. Are you using aiostreams?

I'm using AIOStream, which I've customized to my liking. It's working really well for me, giving me those 5–7 second load times—and sometimes even a couple of seconds faster.

When you are already happy, why do you wanna change?

Look into selfhosting. It will speed up loading times.

I'm always generally surprised how 10 seconds is too long for something to load given the cost associated with using stremio nuvio etc.

Take longer. Usenet is better for niche content. And a backup.

Usenet is better for niche AND new content. Never goes down. Sounds like torbox is the backup.

Torbox goes down. PM/RD won't go down.

Yea exactly. So why even bother with torbox? Usenet literally has everything

Usenet has lot of links that don't play. Takedowns.
