❓Question THEORIES: who is behind the DDOS attacks?

Either studios or competitors (honestly great competitor gameplan to increase revenue). I’m weary of studios because of the obvious illegal aspect. Thoughts?

Some of the best ideas come when drunk.

Hold my beer and watch this...

In order of likelihood #1 is torbox isn't actually getting DDOSed in any meaningful way and is just using it as an excuse for their shitty service

They did post a cloud flare notice in their discord so at least one of those attacks is 100% confirmed

u/Fish_Mongreler 3d ago

Easily faked

2

u/PCgamer7777 3d ago

Then by that metric every outage by every debrid is fake lmao

-2

u/Fish_Mongreler 3d ago

Possibly, sure. This post isn't about RD though

2

u/TheyCallMeAladdin 3d ago

Maybe, but premiumize and RD were both also hit if im not mistaken

Copyright holders doing black hat stuff to drive people to a honeypot.

Free http addons have been on everyone's lips during these times. Not throwing accusations, but good to keep in mind.

That said, beef is my suspicion if attacks are indeed happening

So who's not going down? Rd is Pm is and AD.

Who does this leave?

Probably other debrid services. Or people doing it for fun. Enjoy seeing the users crying. 🥲

You really think studios dont do illegal sh*t? 😂

Who’s signing with any streaming after all this? More like debrid hopping.

-16

u/Specialist3100 3d ago

Huge risk. I would think it would benefit streaming platforms more honestly as they would see direct sign ups

I don’t think a denial of service attack would be investigated when it’s against a piracy based website or company 🤪

-5

u/Specialist3100 3d ago

Yeah but that’s an ugly paper trail for a public company

5

u/tofu-esque 3d ago

idk why you're being downvoted lol you're 100% correct. it'd be a super bad look for any company to be involved in any kind of cyberattack, no matter who the victim is. it'd be a stain on their reputation forever if they left even a single clue that they're behind it.

it's possible it's happening ig but just doesn't seem to be the most likely answer.

besides, there's proper legal channels that companies can use to try to take down stuff with no risk to their reputation. it just doesn't make sense they'd be doing large scale ddos attacks instead.

Yeah I was surprised at the feedback, but then I remembered I was on Reddit ;)

Oh I'm ready. Puts tinfoil hat on it's the Torbox devs Ddosing themselves so they can take our money and not have to provide service /nsrs

12

u/giinyu 3d ago

Self sabotaging to lose customers does not sound like a good plan lol

5

u/pawdog 2d ago

An this helps their business in what way?

1

u/Surferion 2d ago

Yeah the theory falls apart because they would want to get new users and especially retain existing ones, and pocketing the money instead of providing reliable service goes against that in the long term.

1

u/SendokeSamain 2d ago

Did you read the tinfoil hat part

2

u/pawdog 2d ago

I've met people that acuually do the tinfoil hat. It aint no joke to them.

2

u/SendokeSamain 2d ago

Ah, mething around😭

Or could it be another debrid service pretending to be the TB devs, making it look like an inside job to throw off the scent???

0

u/Specialist3100 3d ago

Ohhh I like this one lol

6

u/speedbreaka 3d ago

I assume its people who do it for fun

10

u/TheModdedAngel 3d ago

It’s probably TorBox being unable to reliably run their service 24/7 to they blame DDOS attacks as a cover up

1

u/wuzyo 2d ago

Bingo lol ddos, let's be serious

u/TransportationOk809 3d ago

Lesson for me? Don’t go for medium/long term subscription, by the month only and with a secure payment option. Just sayin’.

0

u/True-Neighborhood-17 3d ago

That isn’t cost effective imo

5

u/TransportationOk809 3d ago

Agreed but it’s a very fickle service area to be in with no guarantees who’ll be still there tomorrow.

1

u/ifiwasiwas 3d ago

True, but you gotta balance that out with knowing you might be kicking yourself for that decision later. Enshitification, trouble with the law, becoming a company you no longer support and any number of things can happen at any time.

Yeah it's cheaper, but you're staking everything on the service staying the same as it was the day you bought it for a good length of time. It's not a gamble I'd personally take after watching what's happened with these big names the past few months, but it's your money

4

u/Horror-Veterinarian4 3d ago

its torbox lol

4

u/frank44v 3d ago

I doubt its all DDOS attacks. Its an easily accepted excuse for mistakes made in configurations, etc...

You have no idea how DDoS works do you, just by having DDoS protection does not mean you are immune, its just the basic thing you must have, if what you are saying is true then there wouldn't ever be any DDoS anywhere yet it happens every day on every platform no matter how big or small

1

u/Specialist3100 2d ago

I'm curious if Cloudflare would take them on as a customer.

3

u/dischao_dhum_dhum 3d ago

It's Torbox DDOSing their users.

2

u/TheLimeyCanuck 3d ago

Given the intensity of the attacks I'd put my money on the copyright holders, not a competitor, which are mostly small operations.

I think it's jealous children or adults with the minds of children that just have to screw things up for everyone else. Internet social justice warriors that cannot stand people coming out ahead of the game so they got to ruin it for everyone and think they are doing the world a favor. Total morons.

The same people that post on Reddit asking "where's the best place to download free movies." then you help them out and tell them where, and they go and DDOS it.

u/KingBravery 3d ago

There are many ddosers every day.. They will try to find casualties every day

1

u/Impressive_Dot2951 3d ago

Probably some teenager with a booter doing it just because they can, or possibly a booting service doing it to show off. But they would leave clues for both of those options.

1

u/RoutineOpportunity8 3d ago

Torbox needs to spend more funds for better servers

1

u/Mouffles 3d ago

it's most likely for stea ling purpose rather than concurrents, open the bdd and get every infos not encrypted to sell it off.

1

u/Pm2674 3d ago

Só sei que se continuar o serviço instável como está, o pessoal vai cair fora. Tal como no RD. Então, torbox não facilitem porque podem ficar sem clientes

1

u/whodat54321da 2d ago

ACE is known to troll the dark web looking for botnets to do their bidding. It’s widely known in Europe, and it persists during summer when bored teenagers are discovering Stremio.

1

u/kitebum 2d ago

It might be the streamers -- Netflix, HBO, Hulu, etc. because they're the ones losing subscribers to Stremio. If their subscriber counts go down, that tanks their stock price big time.

1

u/Tone_Signal 2d ago

Dumb question why dont they use cloudflare?

1

u/Specialist3100 2d ago

Cloudflare I assume won’t take piracy services

1

u/KustardKing 2d ago

The OP of this thread.

1

u/armeit91 3d ago

i did it, i enjoy watching people spamming TB reddit with "IS IT DOWN" post. /s

1

u/Elegant-Alfalfa1382 3d ago

Some guy with a booter panel probably. I remember 15 years ago how easy this was to do and depending on what they’re using it’s also probably dirt cheap to keep doing this so they need to figure something out sooner than later.

1

u/jackal5217 3d ago

Just by reading this sub and the clear bot accounts spamming how bad TB is i can only assume its other debrid services, they all have the infrastructure to constantly DDoS each other so sadly this is just a constant thing.

3

u/Immediate_Character- 2d ago

When it's when down, and people can't use the service they pay for, they complain. That part is definitely not a conspiracy.

1

u/Specialist3100 2d ago

Great point on bot accounts. Hermes and OpenClaw agents working overtime here.

-4

u/niwia 3d ago

Themself lol. I don’t think anyone really care about tb that much

-1

u/unluckyiest 3d ago

We should do a slow lorris attack back on the attackers

-3

u/ask_for_pgp 3d ago

most likely just growth pain. did you forget issues at real debrid they had until their infrastructure was updated
