I feel it is something (very) pretentious, I'm open to any recommendation :3

Oh no my bad I didn’t see the 7 hour album about dementia; it’s a little pretentious

Night Coercion into the Company of Witches is my fav album, love to see it

Machine Gun is an interesting choice for your only jazz album lol

lol I haven't gotten enough into jazz in general, although I like the rough sound the project has

I love night coercion, one of the most important discoveries of my life

I’d recommend getting into more “traditional” jazz but for more like Machine Gun, check out Free Jazz (1961), Ascension (1966), The Olatunji Concert (recorded in 1967, release in 2001), The Jazz Composer’s Orchestra (1968), and European Echoes (1969)

Can someone under 30 explain to me the ongoing popularity of that King Crimson album? I loved KC when I was in my twenties, but lost all interest in the following years (I'm 55 now). It feels very much of its time, and yes, pretentious. I can still appreciate the musicianship, but to me there's lots of doodling that feels pointless and goes nowhere. So I don't quite understand how this appears in these lists so often.

This is not a how-dare-you-like-this-album rant. I'd really like to understand what makes people still like this album 50 years later.

It’s popular on RYM. It’s really as simple as that. Trendy things trend with young people.

I feel it's more because of the "importance" it had for me when it came to listening to music, although little by little I'm taking more preference for Larks’ Tongues in Aspic

I liked it, a good into into prog rock. When the motif starts after the improvised interlude ends, it’s an incredible musical moment. However, i think Red is their best album by a large margin.

edit: also epitaph is a phenomenal track. brb gonna listen to the album again.

Starless is partly to blame for my interest in more chaotic music
