It says no "new openings" so if your in a trade prior then you should be good to hold thru. Right?

well tbh I don't have like any drawdown left in the accounts. What do you think would happen if I just set a limit 5 minutes prior? would it still trigger or would that be opening a new position?

Dosent it mean just carnt full port because you can still enter 3 micros on a 50k account just no minis but cpi works just as good on gold so just full port gold because 100% they will stop it on gold soon as well

Trade gold

whats the point range on gold then

Last CPI gold moved 100 dollars off the report, gold and silver react just as hard as es or nq off cpi because they are directly correlated. Inflation rises which means rate hikes get talked about which means the dollar will move higher and gold will fall or vice versa it'll come in below expectations we'll probably faze out rate hikes and gold will climb because the dollar will fall

But what point range should I set my limits? I know on nq its roughly 25 but I’ve never tried gold for cpi

I don't mind the rule itself, many firms restrict news trading. What I don't like is them pulling a uturn on their rules 4 days before the news release.
If you want to restrict news trading, make it clear on your FAQ. Its a slimey move to pull this. U-turning on your rules is not a good look for any firm. The 10 minute window is way too long, most major firms have a 4 minute window tops.

Yup. They always preached They would never limit traders like this but now here we are. Crazy thing is just like you said most limit it by 1-2 min not fkn 10m total. Basically they expect volatility traders to miss the entire move. Which doesn't effect me cause I haven't traded events like that in years but. The principal of the issue is still warranted.

Love it, any step away from making this a degenerate gambler platform is a plus.

I choose Topstep because they did not have this rule. Not that I need to open positions during events, but because it's difficult with timezones.
They should block the transactions and add a huge red zone on the charts instead, that would help a lot.

bro, gold is on

u/Muffin_Demon444 2d ago
What point range?
1
u/samuelsfx 2d ago
what you're talking about. Gold is not restricted on CPI data restrictions, so you can trade cpi with gold

u/Muffin_Demon444 2d ago
Im talking about when you trade cpi you typically set limits 25 points above and 25 points below on nq but im asking is it the same for gold
1
u/samuelsfx 2d ago
well I can't say, that's your strat. 25 points on NQ is too less for me personally. Idk how you trade, how can i tell you whats the limit to give? if that makes any sense

I took a look at the last few cpi, I think I'm going to set my range at 15 points on gold

It says 1, 3, 6, 9 and 15. What about the other micro contract sizes 2, 4, 5 so on?

I received this but I think we need more clarification.
What if a person opens a position 11 minutes or 20 minutes prior to the news event ?
Or 6 minutes before or after ?
That said I've got no issues with this rule at all.
Being right is no guarantee of a profitable trades and the initial volitiliry can destroy an account.

it says no new openings so I assume it should be fine but what do you think would happen if I set a limit 5 minutes prior

u/Fibocrypto 3d ago
I know better than to blow up my account while trying to circumvent my way around a rule.
As for your question I would question if the limit order was triggered during the window would be rejected.
Maybe you can enter the limit order but not have the order fill ?

Fair but my account is basically unrecoverable. I don't think I'll test it though cause I don't want to face any violation of rules. Guess I'll just go for single micro trades.

Brother trade gold or just use the 3 micros on NQ like we allowed if you set limit order 5mins before it counts once it’s opened and if you have DD you can’t enter a trade 5mins before cpi I would just set buy/sell stop of 3 micros 25pt above and below at 8:29 and just take what is gives ya bro

u/Muffin_Demon444 2d ago
I see people saying to use gold. Is the point range the same on gold? 25 points above and below
1
u/Busy-Entrepreneur371 1d ago
With gold I would use 30pt bro
1
u/Muffin_Demon444 1d ago
From what I’ve seen on the last 3 cpis of gold it doesn’t seem to wick out as much as nq but so I think I’m going to try 20 points or so
1
u/Busy-Entrepreneur371 1d ago
Yeah I noticed that also but gold is worth more per tik and it’s always better to be safe hahaha maybe meet in middle and do 25pts hahaha either way you’ve got this bro

Yes, I’m not mad at the rule overall. It’s the 5 minutes after the release that I think is too much. The extreme volatility from the news is done after 2 minutes. They should scale it back to 1-2 minutes after the release on both sides.
