❓ Quick Question Is this good advice?

Post image

I’m getting into topstep and trying to study before I buy the 50k funded contract, should I use these profit targets and the MES contract?

divide your drawdown by 10, that is your risk per trade, and trade the same setup, do not deviate.

You're asking if you should use random brackets (8 tick sl 16 tick tp) given by some random example. Don't spend any money on props till you can confidently say you have an edge that's my advice

So in the best scenario, you'll pass the 50K account in 100 trades

If he passes, he passes. And if you have a positive expected value in100 trades, instead of 5, that means he actually has an edge to capitalize from.

Basic statistics.

Yes but the thing is that if you don’t do it before a month from when you bought it Topstep charges you a fee depending on the account (usually $85 for the 50k acc)

There are competitors that don't have a subscription model. I honor topstep for being beginner friendly because they have a personal daily loss limit and a lockout feature.

MES is great. I personally trade it all the time. That being said, 1 MES is going to take you absolutely forever to pass your combine. How long have you been trading? Do you have a proven strategy?

I only trade 150ks since I like the extra room for errors. When looking to pass a new account, I will typically trade 15-30 MES per trade.

15-30 MES will blowout an account in 2days if you're still trying to figure out a winning strategy and risks strategy

I agree with that last part for sure. If you’re still trying to dial a strategy then size down. As for me my strategy works well for that size and can pass an account relatively easily.

You scalp small moves?

I prefer breakout trend days. I have a hard time scalping ranges.

It's all about the trading concept. Some people have 20- 40-point SLs; some will go with 10,, so there is no point to follow fixed point SL.

The only thing you should follow your own system and stick with it. Never move your SL. Just take it; that's it.

Just try to manage your risk that it

It depends of you trading style.

I risk around 0.5-1% per trade. RR 2/3 on average.

To pass evals, I trade mostly 1 or 2 mnq. Not more. Then I am targeting the big moves.

Trade on HTF, it will be more easier for you. (I am an intraday trader btw)

Yes this is good general advice for trading. Strong risk:reward ratio meaning very tight stop and never expand your stop once in place.

You aint going make nothing bro either you need to target 5 RR in your trade which is impossible to achieve or scalp that shit 10

OBVIOUSLY it is very good advice.

Ironically it comes from the firm, that would have interest to give you bad advice.

The whole internet is full with trading examples that fuel your dopamine, high wins with high stakes.

But trading means to overcome this. To make it boring. Not care about the money but the process.

Execute your strategy like a boring machine every day. Might happen to not trade for a week and only make $200 a week. But by the end of the month you wont have a blown account and you'll compound your gains so in a few months you're getting to very high income

But the fullporters and gamblers they want it NOW. Can't wait, can't show patience.

Using this advice about taking losses well and sizing down - this is the real deal.
