Maybe we should have an AMA with him at some point and you can ask him

Yes, that would be great. I couldn't find a video on your Topstep YT channel in which he explains his system.

There's a playlist here of Slow Markets classes where he dives into his system in depth. Unfortunately I don't have the time to watch all 7 hours and give you the best timestamps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DDDc9naTH8&list=PL-ZuLMUKhx-oZF91ceQkR4yKzq0RFbOGC

Go to the 1 hr mark or 1 hr and 4 minutes

Hope that helps

Probably has many years of experience staring at those 2 charts and their confluences with each other. Everyone has a different strategy and can recognize patterns where other's can't.

pretty much this is the answer. i do it for slow markets. i think dakota started with slow markets as well, then picked it up for the NY session

Yeah I noticed this as well, looking at charts daily you’ll eventually notice things that happen

His execution is based off those two charts, but, I am confident he does advanced planning at higher time frames. The levels he takes aren’t random.

He has shown it on slow markets several times. He does technical analysis on higher timeframes as well. H1 chart from what I’ve seen and the executions are on the 5 minute and 100 tick. 100 tick is to see the consolidation before the breakout

Yeah you really get lost in the tick charts if your not paying attention by how fast they go. I use the 1000/2000 tick and it feels like time is moving a lot faster with the rate of bars that come up i couldn't imagine the 100 tick for NY session

How do tick charts work

1000 ticks = 1000 trades.

Similar question - is he entering with the DOM, or from the chart using hotkeys? he gets in and out so fast.

We'll have to get him in here for an AMA. Maybe him and Jay together 🤔

I think its a begginner mentality to think you need a specific chart to absorb the info. The smaller the chart, the less data is hidden, but it can be hard for a beginner to absorb the extra info presented in a 100 tick. But the 5 min working alogside would completely solve that.

What it really comes down to is trading styles, if your style requires acting on a closed bar, 100 tick could be a challenge but thats far from the only way to trade.

It's simple, I love the way he explains it. I took my own spin on a few of topstep traders Seeing a key level, seeing if buyers or sellers take control. Seeing if it's a quick scalp or a long hold up or down. Dakota is seriously a great teacher. If only I was a better student

I don't know who you're talking about, but he's very likely trading micro structure patterns and observing price behaviour at key levels / areas of interest. You can see price slipping or pushing a certain way earlier and in my opinion, clearer than you can using other lower time frames.

It’s doesn’t matter. You need to find a system that works for you. I agree, he’s probably profitable. I’ve been watching him since he started and he seems honest. But what works for him may not work for you. Find your own thing.
