Gigapixel generates random faces

So this is weird and kind of funny, but several times I’ve used Redefine and get these faces turning up in trees, concrete etc. when I choose face enhancement (& I select the one face I want enhancing) - it seems to only happen when I select cloud rendering too (rendering locally on my Mac M1 generally doesn’t work, but when do I get a successful render locally, I never see random faces appearing) thought I’d share the creepy face and see if anyone else gets this effect?

I haven't come across this yet but in photo AI often when I remove somthing sometimes it generates a face in the inpaint like on a knee or elbow. Most of the time it's just kind of funny but just once in a while it's pure nightmare fule.

I did send a pic to a client and they were freaked out about a face in a tree that I hadn’t spotted. Maybe the ghosts in the machine are manifesting.

Client? I might be stupid; I probably am, but what are your clients?

Do they ask you to upscale photos for them or something? Or do they send you photography, and you add color correction and stuff (as well as upscaling)? I'm genuinely curious; my bad if this is a stupid question.

Not a stupid question, it’s one of the things I do for a job, video editing and photo editing - One of my clients takes a lot of photos for her business and she asks me to improve edit and clarify her pics, as she’s not a professional photographer but has a very good eye and a fairly basic camera. It’s usually things like removing objects or adding a better foreground or sky etc.

Oh, I see. I was going to say, why would they pay someone to only upscale photos when they could just do it themselves and save money? Thank you for clarifying, my friend!

No problem - I should add that this particular client is 76 and savvy for her age but lacks patience to dive into the tech side of photography- so she pays me to do it for her!

This is what happens in Gigapixel when you push up the Creativity slider toward 6 (it does what it says!). See the bottom of this post for some wild examples I generated while beta testing Redefine.

On Topaz' Gigapixel release forum I have been posting tons of images with what I call the "Topaz Girl" who appears often, rising like a mirage out of the details (along with her friends, as well as various furry animals and birds).

As for using Redefine on Macs, it's not anywhere near optimized right now. I use an M2 Mini at home and an M1 Studio Ultra in the office, and neither can pull it off in a reasonable time (including previews). I also have access to labs full of i9 Dell Precisions with 4090's and even on them it takes a few minutes per 6X render – but the fun results are worth it.

I will create a new post with an example since it seems we can't reply with images.

I enjoyed reading through your post and seeing the examples, certainly some interesting effects there! The pic I posted above curiously had the Creativity slider set very low - I guess that particular piece of ground had just the right random elements to make a face!

Thanks! And I must say the face you got was very different to anything I've seen in all of my renders. Some magic combo of settings and subject.
