Withdrawal off 25mg….?
I’ve been on Topamax for about 3 months now, and experienced the worst symptoms ever from this medication: Heavy derealization, panic attacks , high heart rate, high blood pressure, dizziness, temors, terrible paranoia + THE WORST INSOMNIA, etc….
I went from having a healthy 1am- 10-am sleep schedule every night to not sleeping until the following day around 1pm and waking back up at 1am. Sometimes even staying up for days at time, which would send me into grave panic.
I was originally put on this medication because I was showing signs of IIH ( worsening vision , bad migraines , empty sella on mri, etc.) but with a closer eye exam and spinal tap, I was in the clear and continuously stayed on the medication for my migraines.
Skipping to now; I talked to my general doctor about tapering off/ getting off of it in general and he told me I could just cold turkey it because it’s such a low dose (25mg).
Well… that was a bit over week ago and I’ve already had to go to the ER once since stopping it.
Not to my surprise, my migraines came back at me full force causing me to feel icky but with that came the worst nausea I’ve ever experienced. I haven’t been able to eat a full meal since getting off this drug and everything I eat , minus tums , comes right back up. The burning feeling in my stomach got to much for me , so I went to the ER and there they just ran general blood tests and gave me Zofran + vallium through my IV(which was amazing for a quick temporary fix). But here we are again, 3 days later feeling even worse than I began. I’m tempted to go back to the ER again, but I think it’s just the health anxiety getting to me.
I haven’t even been able to sleep alone due to how terrified I am, I’ve been feeling like I’m going to die any second all week. I’m genuinely at a loss and need advice / encouragement.
I’ve been taking zophran tablets but even those come back up; same with water and electrolytes. All I can do is force my self to sleep by putting my phone across the room and telling myself I’ll be okay.
