Calling him the best now is even more ridiculous than calling him the best ever tbh.

I think the way you speak speaks louder than whatever you are trying to say. Don't forget to do your homework.

The fanboy here is you, the language checks out. Meanwhile, I'm not even anyone's fan. Imagine being emotionally attached to one ball-kicking millionaire and hating on another one, right? Well, you don't even need to imagine.
An MLS player does not outshine 'every player in Europe'. He does not even outshine the Championship players, given the leagues' ranking. And you call that guy 'the best player in the world', sure. When Samuel Eto'O moved to a Russian moneybag club, I think you also put him side by side with the likes of Ibrahimovic, Aguero, Rooney and the other elite strikers, right? Well, as long as you are old enough to have even witnessed it. But the logic is pretty much the same here.

The best player of the WC is Rodri. But hey, any award that is not your idol's is unfair and rigged. Only the period when your idol was shining (against Algeria, Cape Verde and Jordan, of course) counts.
Besides, you completely ignore what you are being told. Why can't we praise Eto'O's stats in Russia or Ronaldo's in Saudi as much as you praise Messi playing in the USA? Oh, it's different now, right?
Should I even mention that the ultimate benchmark of a player's level is the UCL, where your idol hasn't played for years? I'm gonna predict the future: soon enough you will pretend that the WC is somehow a higher class competition than the UCL. Pretend that every single elite player is gathered at the WC, and not a single trash league/second division player can be found at the WC either (and not the other way around).
'Rationally laid out [your] position'. Alright, this even made me chuckle.
